It does, that is exactly what defines a "power" clean, the fact that you don't receive in a full squat, unlike a (regular) clean. Both lifts require you to fully stand up to locked knees with the weight on the shoulders to be considered successful.

😂 I did that on high school, but OP metric > customary turned 100kg + 45lb > 275lb. (15lb too high) I was pretty flexible for a 220lb peep, for normal reps, I do what he did, but on Max I use my own technique. Base is shoulder width and bar is in the middle of my toes and ankle. Hands just outside of legs, back straight, and explode up. Using the momentum created by my legs I apply more lift using my arms like an upright row. Once the bar reaches 3'6"~ off the ground I get low and snatch. The bar still has it's upwards momentum and I abuse that air time to get under it. My base will usually widen by 5"~ on each foot. From the snatch it's basically an ass to the grass front squat.

Okay how is this a clean when he's intentionally bouncing the bar off his hips? I'm not trying to troll, he's clearly extremely strong. I just thought the whole point of a clean was that the bar went from the floor to your shoulders WITHOUT touching any other part of the body (hence the name of the movement is called a "clean").

@docrambo9923 7 жыл бұрын
they say tapping the bar on the hips helps prime the hips, quads, and calves for the explosion during much heavier sets. have you ever tried to go super heavy on this? the tapping feels natural and really helps with your ability to get on your toes as well.. it only appears as bouncing bc the weight is like 265lbs.. but if he was doing just the bar, the bounce would really be a light tap. This movement is about the maximal production of force/power and engaging your hips this way allows for more power that you just wouldn't get without it.. hence "power" clean... if you can do wit without it, you're also probably not going heavy enough to have to sink down into it either, which would make it just a clean then...
@outsider2k8
@outsider2k8 6 жыл бұрын
You will make contact with your thigh or hip if you keep the bar close to your body. If you look at Olympic weight lifting, all lifters make contact when them do clean or snatch. I think some trainer/coach against the contact as beginner end up "hit" the bar which end up bump the bar away from the body. (Lifter either need to pull the bar back or they will ail the catch.) In Klokov's video he always say contact instead the hit as they are 2 different thing. When you do clean or snatch you should move the bar to the body make the contact, the problem is some people did hip thrust to meet the bar. (Klokov said the best, hip thrust is for sex not for weight lifting.) Both Torokhtiy and Klokov teach the drill that you move the bar to the body to make the contact and than clean pull or snatch pull. If you watch Mark Rippetoe's video he make contact with the bar as well. BTW.. Aleksey TOROKHTIY is gold medalist of 2012 London game.

No, the point of the power clean is to be able to pull the bar high enough so that you can catch it above parallel.

courrierdebois there is literally no olympic move called a half squat clean. There is, however, a power clean. Which this clearly is.

I know there's nothing called a half squat clean! :) Check out any of the 10 billion power clean tutorials or videos and you'll see the the bar is caught in a 1/4 squat position. Check out Rippetoe and Thrall.

However, because hes not going into a full squat clean, its still a power clean. Yes, he may be squatting down a bit, but that still doesnt make it a full clean. Therefore, still a power clean
