That's what most pseudo tough guys do. Or the ones who can't admit their anger is half the result of not being able to beat the person who wrongs them. 4:15. I"m a musician and audio engineer. One day, many years ago when I was working as a recording engineer at a studio in New York City, we were booked to record a pop singer named Cynthia. There was a producer whose name escapes my memory, but he was an excellent musician. He was producing Cynthia’s pop record because the pay was good. A big Italian guy named Mike was the executive producer. Mike reeked of money (for obvious reasons, I prefer not to elaborate on this point). He wanted us to record basic rhythm tracks and a scratch vocal for Cynthia’s song. This wasn’t going to be a problem: the producer (I regret I cannot recall his name) was a talented, skilled, and experienced musician who knew what he was doing, and so did I. And Cynthia was very easy to work with. Mike left, and we did our work. It all went smoothly. Now, I had recorded a rough reference mix on cassette, and we left the mix on the multitrack on the console. Mike returned to see how we were doing. We had accomplished everything we set out to do. So, I played what we did from the multitrack. Mike didn’t like it. He said it was OK, but it needed something. So, he started playing with the faders on the console. His contributions made a complete mess of the mix, with the VU meters slamming into the red on every track we recorded. He said it sounded a little better, but not quite what he wanted (keep in mind this was NOT the finished product). Then I said “Mike, give this a listen.” Then, giving the producer a quick look and wink, I played the cassette of the exact same mix Mike didn’t like. Mike listened to it and said “Now THAT’S what it should have been the first time!”

Ha ha Noah punches Tony as hard as he can just inside the front door. Tony staggers back and gets a bloody lip. He does look angry for a microsecond, but then he smiles and offers Noah his hand and apologizes for antagonising him with something like: "I always knew you cantaloupes weren't all filled with yellow." Everything else happens exactly as the show because Tony never took revenge for stupid or weak reasons.
@TimParker-Chambers
@TimParker-Chambers 9 ай бұрын
5:33 Because Tony knew that if things got physical between him and Richie, Richie would go savage, and wipe the floor with him: Sure, Tony's a big guy, he has strength, so he could somewhat endure a fight, as when he started that fight with Muscles, and when he fought and (eventually) kiIIed Ralph, but Richie was a very different creature to either of those guys; he was expIosively fast, brutal, and guaranteed to fight dirty, so he would have been able to out-power Tony's inherent strength/endurance... Tony knew which fights he could win, which ones he couldn't, and he didn't ever cut loose physically unless he knew 100% that he could not lose (hence why Pu$$y got shot, rather than say, being garrotted, where it'd then be an equal fight between two chubbers, and not a guaranteed win for Tony) 👍👍👍👍

I'm enjoying these videos but getting the strong impression that this 'laws of power'/ Maciavelli stuff is basically like astrology but for power hungry and or strategically minded men. As in the analysis rings true but it's so vague and multi factor that a clever person could plug anything or its opposite into the 'law' anecdotally and it would ring true. Like I'm sure if BW tried he could make a similarly strong case for why arguments are more effective than action, cause really both a true depending on the particulars. Like just off the tip of my head there is the time Johnny Sack convinces uncle Junior to lower his tax on Hesh, the time Tony convinced Chris to stick with the mob instead of a move career (a little aggression but mostly was just an argument), the time tony convinces uncle Jun to not eat alone ( ie spread the tax on He's umungst the captains) it goes on and on really. Of course none of the arguments would matter for much if there was no reputation for action, but by the same token action would be too costly if you had to do it all the time instead of mixing it up with argument/discourse. So the law is just like astrology, only seems insightful when the common occurrence of opposites is disregarded.
@Dough_Dough4
@Dough_Dough4 5 ай бұрын
When it comes to these very vague laws, you're right. But there are more specific ones where you can't impose your interpretation on them, for example the situation of using underbosses for enforcing unpopular decisions so that you are isolated from the blowback. (Although, I don't know if that video was out when you commented this)

Another power law that Jackie should have learned is that following in the foot steps of greatness is a way to only lose power. Robert Greene writes that if your father is powerful and successful you need to differentiate yourself from him as much as possible so you’re not constantly compared to him. Since Jackie tried so hard to be like his father he would only be compared to him and seen as inferior. I think it’s rule 41 or 40.

If Noah punched Tony, nothing much would happen, at least not immediately. Noah is a nobody, and harming nobodies brings unwanted attention and his daughter would never forgive him. At most, Tony would have given him a few blows and sent him on his way then it would be forgotten about within a few weeks.
