Admittedly I skipped the intro Ad (not into real estate) but after watching your video I watched the entire Ad afterwards out of appreciation. Been out of the networking/tech support/cctv racket for 15 years and heard of PoE but your video made it understandable. Thank you and will watch all future Ads

One of the great features of PoE is a Single UPS can backup power your system via the Switch.

Excellent advice, its amazing how places will pay 3K for all the cabling over large work areas, but then skimp out by using 29.95 cheap switches, and cheap switches nearly never provide PoE, or more than 1 or 2 PoE ports, lots good advice Jim. BTW we found ubuiqti gear to be rock solid, at about 1/10th the price of cisco/juniper, especially when you get into spf

I like Cisco. I always recommend fully managed PoE switch. Good network equipment will out last many generations of PCs.

Also always think about Cyber Security when buying network gear. Cisco systems can be programed to talk to each other about vulnerabilities and threats on the network.

Hello Jim on PoE running over CAT 6 cabling how many pairs are being used? Is the power coming down pins 7 and 8 the brown pair? Is the IP phone using the green and orange pairs for data or are all 4 pairs being used?

Always great info from you Jim. What about different voltages--->24 vs 48? And passive vs active PoE? Also, What type of cable should you run for PoE devices-all copper cat5e or cat6-7? Is there a benefit for speed and stability if you use higher rated cable? How far can a typical PoE run go and...do termination(s) at wall/surface jacks affect power delivery and performance? Thanks in advance!

Been to your site, no POE switches ? Lets say you have a Dell powerconnect 5524p 24 port poe switch layer 3. You need 18 poe for cameras and 6 non-poe devices computers etc.. The question is can you plug in the non poe device and the voltage is never used or do you need a voltage blocking adapter.

Yes, you can use non-PoE devices on a PoE switch--I'm using a 5524P myself to handle both PoE and non-PoE devices.

Hi Jim, What would happen if i plugged something like a laptop or desktop into a ethernet port that had power running thru to it and the device is not expecting it, Am I going to blowup the Ethernet controller in the device. Also do you ship to Australia,

No it will not affect your your equipment. In fact some equipment (VoIP) will talk to the switch and tell the switch how much power it needs (Cisco VoIP, APs and PoE switches). Yes we do ship to Australia (WWW.CableSupply.com) and most English speaking countries.

how do you connect you phone to computer....no usb on phone. Ethernet cable directly into computer ???

@@howardmurden8723 You don't need the patch panel for the phone to work. Just pretty standard on any business or serious home network to use patch panels to keep things organised. Plug your laptop/pc directly into the back of the phone... means no need for a wall socket and therefore one less cable to pull.
