Amp Research Power Steps... what can I say? You love them and you hate them, all at the same time! This is hopefully the culmination of a year long saga with the passenger side power running board on my 2010 Tundra. At times, the board deploys fine, but it won’t go back up. I started by taking the motor apart, and found the guts/grease to be all waxy and solid. I cleaned it all up thinking THAT WAS THE PROBLEM, and after I reassembled the motor and packed it full of new grease, things seems good for a week or two, but then the board got stuck down AGAIN!
Next, after calling the Lind International help line (they make the power steps), that guy told me to stop using WD-40 to lubricate the hinge/linkages. He told me to pressure wash the linkages, let them dry, and then only apply silicone lube. I did that, and it worked for about two weeks. Then, after another call to the help line, it was suggested that I swap sides. I did that. I swapped the motor and gearbox from the driver’s side to the passenger side, and the passenger side still stays down on occasion. Uuuughhh! Finally, today and yesterday, I removed everything, and cleaned up all the parts on the passenger side. I had seen a forum posting about adding a small shim between the motor linkage bracket and the truck for linkage alignment. Turns out, I had to do that. Fingers crossed, it works this time!
