I'm glad it worked for you. Remember this only gives you some time till you find a replacement hose. The hose will eventually develop a larger leak.
@Waterdog553

This is good for emergencies, however if you have the time, just replace the power steering hose, if you just patch it up with f4 tape longterm , it might damage the rest of the hose by causing the leak to expand, it can also cause power pump deterioration, you can buy a new hose for about 20-50 dollars. this is a very good fix for emergencies!

You are correct. It is cheaper to just replace the hose for someone that can do the job in their own garage. Other car owner may not be so lucky and may need to pay $$$ to bring it to the shop. So if you don't have the time or money to do the replacement ASAP this is a quick fix that you can easily do while finding the time or money to do it. As I mentioned in this video, this is only for emergency to keep you going until you get the hose replaced. This gives me a little over a month before I eventually have to replace the hose. I also mentioned that I have to check the PSF level every time I drive the car. Others may get more time or less depending on what type of leak they have.

I used similar self-fusing silicone tape to fix my dishwasher. It still works! I used JB Quikweld to fix my leak, but I might try wrapping it as well. 🤔

@@diymanual 😅 Quikweld didn't hold. I think the pressure was just too much as it just cracked it. Maybe should have just used the silicone tape. 😭

@@tiberius1272 I think they have a putty type epoxy for that application. I used JB quick weld in the drain pipe under my sink 5 years ago and it is still holding. But there is no pressure on that pipe. Also, it reminds me. I used the silicone tape about 6 years ago in my cold water line in my attic that have a very small leak. It is still holding great also.

How did you wrap it and where did you start
@diymanual
@diymanual Ай бұрын
The leak happens to be oil soaking through the hose near the metal connector so I started at the metal part so I can put more pressure on it. If I remember correctly, I did 2 layers. From the metal part, I wrapped it and went over 2 to 3 inches over where the actual leak is then went back to the connector. Just a reminder, this is not a permanent fix. But this patch gave me enough time to gather the information I needed to learn how to replace the part by myself to save money. I eventually have to replace my hose as you can see in the video link below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rJ-Zfc2F2cq7qpc.html Good Luck.

Is that the low pressure or high pressure line? My high pressure line is leaking(spray a small stream out the rubber hose) and i cant get to the bolts to take it off the frame underneath. I was going to attempt replacing it with one from the junkyard but i couldnt get it off as the bracket bolt in the middle is ontop of the frame behind a pulley with the radiator fan and pulley in the way. I dont know what to do coz i cant afford a mechanic or even a new part due to being between jobs making money tight.
@diymanual
@diymanual 10 ай бұрын
Yes. this is the high pressure line. This emergency fix gave me at least a few month before the bottom part of the hose started leaking. The pressure hose are cheap in Amazon so you don't need to get a used one from the junkyard. Not sure what car you have but you can start here: amzn.to/409Tqeb If you have the same car as mine, here's the video on how I take the hose out. I actually have to cut the hose to remove it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rJ-Zfc2F2cq7qpc.html Just make sure you have the correct tool to install the new one. You can borrow tool from your local auto parts store. They will charge your card for a deposit and credit it back once you return the item. Good Luck!

@diymanual unfortunately it didn't work for me. I stretched it and wrapped it many times, I made it to the store just to hear it pop like a balloon. 😢 I even tried placing another larger hose on it (split down one side) and hose clamping it onto the rubber. It still leaks, even after using Lucas power steering stop leak. I have horrible luck. I'm between jobs and have a opportunity now to work for amazon flex and as a seasonal ups delivery driver using my own xuv but it won't stop leaking.😭 my bills are pulling up and I've spent alot on fluid doing doordash just to cover my light bill. Sorry I'm ranting coz I'm bored. I'm gonna keep trying to get it to work, maybe a combination of the tape and a pipe would work. Anyway thanks for the vid and reply

@@dragonext2001 sorry to hear that. Yup your leak is probably bigger than my problem so you will need to replace the hose. Not sure what car you have but you might be able to replace it yourself. Buy the part from Amazon and borrow tools from your local auto parts store. Good luck. I'm praying for you.

@diymanual ya I'm trying to change the line now and it's a pain. I have a 2005 gmc envoy xuv. I eventually was able to buy a small 10mm ratcheting wrench to get the annoying bottom bracket off now I'm having a new dilemma. The 2 lines wraps around the motor and connects in a hard to reach space . I got the driver tire and tire shroud off to get to the oily spot though I still can't actually see it only feel for the bolt. Problem is the 2 lines are held in my a bolt holding the bracket in and the bolt for some insane reason is in the middle between the extremely close lines. My sockets and even my tiny wrench doesn't fit between the lines to reach the bolt. I have no clue how I'm gonna get it off. I will even if I have to cut and bend the lines apart but as far as taking it off the normal way...I have no clue
@diymanual
@diymanual 9 ай бұрын
@@dragonext2001 I'm not familiar with GMC but I suggest you check the repair manual or other video specific to your car and list the tools needed. You mentioned there is one spot that you can't reach with your tool that means that the tool you are using is not the right one for the job. You probably need a crow foot wrench and something that flex or an extension. Do not force it because you don't want to strip or break something trying to remove it with the wrong tool. Good Luck with your project I'm rooting for you.

This gave me 3 to 4 months before I actually replace the hose. I did replace the tape a few times before the bottom of the hose started leaking. I have another video that shows how I replaced the hose if you are interested. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rJ-Zfc2F2cq7qpc.htmlsi=M6FHJ1JDXZ70hz3E If you have the same car make sure to watch the full replace video and pay attention on how I was able to remove the hose. The angle is hard if you just lift the car in the jack stands so I have to cut the hose. of course how long the tape last for you will depend on how much leak you have in your hoses. Good Luck.

Even after application carefully following the guideline and stretching the tape the fluid was still seeping out of the tape. My hose failed at exactly the same point too. Any suggestions? @@diymanual Thank you. That is what I was afraid of. When I zoomed in with my phone and took a very close macro image of the hose it does look like that particular spot has very fine cracks in the rubber. I may just have to wrap the hose from collar to collar twice over with a layer of rubberized epoxy in the middle. My problem is coming up with the 513 to have it fixed. I'll need to save for about 13 months.@diymanual

@@diymanual Sadly, no. Finances are just in the negative. The average price I was quoted was ~$325 w/ aftermarket parts. $675 with oem. No third party. Gonna have to wait until around January to save up enough. Thanks for asking though. I've slowed the leak so it only costs about $25/mo in power steering fluid.

The tape is still holding however there's another leak that developed in the lower part of the hose that I can't reach. So can say that once the hose started leaking that it is time to replace it. This will help you get some time to do it Since I am replacing the van I am testing Lucas power steering with stop leak. It seems to slowed the leak but I will see if it will do anything I will do another video on it after I finish a bottle.
