In this video I spent Sunday afternoon at my good friend Dave's house getting his Powermatic Jointer back in working order after the building he had it stored in was found to have a damaged and leaking roof.

Great job Chad, that bed came back so well and looks like new again. It's always an extra bonus when you can help out a friend and thanks for the tip about not heating up the cup grinder, cup grinder, cup grinder, cup grinder, cup grinder.😜

It was a fun day and we got a decent video out of it. I learned that from one of the abrasive companies at FabTech. Since doing that I rarely walk away with wires sticking out of my pants, shirts or face.

I have roughly the same jointer (a slightly older version with a flat front on the cabinet) that was mothballed for about ten years, and has about the same amount of rust from condensation in a post frame building. I also am starting a new shop. What a coincidence! My plan was to scrape the top first with either a scraper or straight edge razor to remove the heavier rust, then use Evapo-Rust, then grind out any pitting. Nearly the same steps. Then I need to do the planer...

This is your best video yet! The time lapse shots are great to see, as I don’t see many restoration videos showing this when removing rust in this manor. The “more you know” segment was priceless and brought back some memories. Dave did well and will do great on video if he would just create accounts and get started!

@@ManCrafting Yes it will, i have an older drill press withs some rusty parts who needs a clean up. I know what it means when sombody watch your videos and give you some feedback. I recently started making videos and the great comments keeps comming and that means a lot after all the hard work i put in it

Thanks. The rust was way deeper than we initially thought, so this was a little more than just removing rust, but it came out great in the end. Thanks for watching and taking a minute to comment.

I've had nothing but issues from a grizzly industrial product. My wife and I drove over 5 hours, and spent over $1200 at the Grizzly showroom in Missouri. Honestly the showroom is amazing. The product I got...not so much. I've had over 10 separate issues including defective, and back ordered parts sent to me. Grizzly did offer me $100 to keep the pos 😂😂😂. I like high quality tools, and won't hesitate to spend the money on them. Powermatic, Jet, SCM, felder, festool, saw stop etc. I like decent hand tools such as snap on, Milwaukee, dewalt, and I even think husky is decent due to being able to swap tools easily when they break one the job. We even have some harbor freight tools that I think are very very good. My experience with grizzly has been unsatisfactory at best. Not to mention they will not post my review on their actual website. Hopefully my review will help someone looking for equipment.

You've gotta upgrade your twisted wire cups if getting hot is causing a problem. I use dewalt's (obviously...) and never have issues.

I've destroyed Dewalts in the past. That's an issue with metal. Heat makes it brittle.

The Minwax paste wax is better than Johnsons. It holds up longer under use. Yes I have tried both .

Okay gentlemen you will find out that your angle grinder made the table have dips in it. I know when I did my Powermatic 66 10" cabinet table saw I did. Go to a place where they sell Granite or Marble for counters. You'll need a piece that is minimum 2" in thick x 15" to 18" in length and 12" wide with a finished surface on one side. This will be you flat plain. Use a spray adhesive put two pieces of 220 to start. Make sure that you put a little lube on your table DO NOT PUT DOWNWARD PRESSER just push and pull and you'll relevel your jointer.

I didn't see any in the links, was that regular sand paper discs, or a sanding cloth specifically for metal? Want to make sure I'm using the right product. Thanks for the great tutorial!
