@ I paid $4k for the truck, $1100 for shipping, and about $1400 in parts, fluids, taxes and insurance for it. All told about $6500 to actually own it for the period of time that I did.

The video took off because KZfaq is pushing it in the suggested videos to the right. They've changed their algorithms recently and I mean no disrespect, but KZfaq is suggesting videos WAY out of our individual interests. But...it worked....I finally succumbed to temptation after repeatedly seeing it in the suggested videos. You did a great job both in getting the truck and making all the needed repairs and performing the maintenance. It's a shame you bought it to flip. It would probably last another 250+K miles. Cheers! Zip~

That wasn’t a joke you posted, it was More of a statement. TKG technically the truck changes in subtle ways in all of its appearances. It’s a generic Toyota pickup truck regardless of its use in the Pixar universe. I help a friend build movie cars And we did a decent pizza planet truck with an early 90’s Toyota Pickup. As well as build props myself. You should turn this into a pizza planet truck and deliver pizzas turbo fast

I scored one of these off craigslist last year with 240k miles for only $3000. Been busy working on it whenever I can get everything restored but man are they fun trucks! Nothing beats seeing that little green turbo light go on on the dash and hearing the little ct20 whoosh.
@DesignPrototypeTest
@DesignPrototypeTest 5 жыл бұрын
I've owned one of these. I rebuilt the engine on mine. The turbo engine had different pistons which dropped the compression down to 8:1 instead of the usual 9.4:1in the typical 22re. This is necessary for longevity when turbocharging an ICE. The lost compression is made up for by cramming more air into the cylinder with the turbo. The problem with the stock turbo from Toyota is that it was one of the few bad things that Toyota ever built. Something about the impeller blades or some crazy fluid dynamics above my pay grade. This resulted in minimal gains from having a Turbo over the naturally aspirated truck. Anyway, the fix back in 2003 when I was doing mine was to install a Garrett T3/04 hybrid turbo. There was a guy with a website back then who was getting 250hp on the dyno with his engine that had that turbo. Insane! It's easier and cheaper these days to turbo and tune an older vehicle like this. If you haven't already done so, the first thing you need to do is get a better turbo.
@ocavant
@ocavant 5 жыл бұрын
Bah. I owned a from new to 200k miles 1986 2wd Xtra cab turbo truck. Stock. Never had one issue with the turbo. I was dedicated to frequent and consistent oil changes and NEVER ever shut it down hot. I always let it idle at least 30-45 seconds before shutting it off. Longer if I'd run it hard. This I feel was the reason for its longevity. Most people never did this, and with a non-water jacketed journal bearing turbo, you are just asking for trouble if it was shut down hot. With that said, it is not a robust turbo design.

Such a cool find! I live in Hawaii and old Toyota pickup trucks are like gold here. Impossible to find one like yours! I have a '91 Toyota pickup single cab 4x4 and it is a beast. Has the 22RE as well. I picked it up for $2500 and sure enough just like you, ended up replacing a bunch of parts on the neglected engine to get it running good. A oil leak from the oil seal and leak from the water pump led me to replace the timing chain and plastic guides since I was already in there. That also meant replacing the front cover and removing the whole head as well. Luckily this did give me the chance to clean every single nut, bolt, and basically the entire engine in the process. I replaced the starter since I was already so deep in the engine. Cleaned all the buildup on the valves and cylinders. And did a full EGR delete. FUN FACT: You do not need any of those vacuum lines on the top of the valve cover, there is only one you need which goes to the power steering. Everything else is pointless emissions crap. (Luckily we don't have smog control in Hawaii) But that being said, it was an amazing learning experience and now I know that the truck is good for another 300k+ miles. (P.S. These engines can take as much timing as you can give them until they start pinging. More timing=more power. Mine is almost fully advanced at +1.5 and gave it a big boost in power)

Love this generation Toyota truck. Had a couple of REALLY nice 2wd low rider type trucks back in the day, a 1985 2wd 22R carburated, Extra cab, 5 speed, manual steering, nice bench seat with armrest that reclined, not much else on options. That one stayed stock. Also had a several years later around 2001 1 owner, old lady 1988 2wd, reg cab with no room, 22-RE fuel injected, 5 speed, that one was a delux model, had carpet, a lot of sound deading, power steering, lots of chrome trim, powder blue paint, stripes down the side, 14" wheels with chrome beuaty rings, it was a much nicer truck despite the lack of room compared to my stripper 1985 reg cab. I actually modded that truck, lowered, enikie wheels, paint was damn near perfect when I got it, just polished it a lot.

I ended up waiting and buying a new 1990 xtracab 4x4 v6 in 90 that I owned for 27 years until i had to sell to make a house payment last year... im still broken hearted about that... One thing I learned was its best to replace any bolts when you have to remove them as they tend to snap after all the years when you try wrenching on them.... What did you pay for your truck and how much was shipping ? It looks clean, not as clean as mine was but still looks like a great place to start.... Loved my toyota, it was family. wish i could post photo's here after 27 years the engine bay was still cleaner then when it was new... good luck, enjoy.
