Here is a new video !!
It's been a while ! Sorry about that... Many people asked me for a longer video with more details ;)
This is a streamline model train produced by JEP for Unis France before 1940, probably between 1932-1939, but not sure... If any of you have more infos...
It's a 120 type / 0 gauge. There was an electro system in the tender, I guess the original model had a full electric motor.
Each part was completely seized and pretty much rusted.
I thought the spring was broken then I was very surprised that it wasn't.
What you don't see in the video is that the spring finally broke during an electrolytic bath 🤔 I had to lift one end of it so the motor is a little less powerful.... It's not obvious on the video but I spent a couple days trying to bring this pre-war clockwork back to life !
Please watch till the end to see this antique rusty locomotive in action !
I'm aware that dark brown chocolate is not the perfect original color but it comes close ;)
By supporting the channel you help me make more of these video and find more amazing items.
I hope you'll enjoy this restoration.
Thanks a lot for watching !

To remedy some of the rough running, I reccomend setting one side of the driving wheels at 90 degrees to the other side. This is called "quartering" and it balances out the weight in the wheel

Christmas 1930 (or something) Boxing Day, a child, perhaps waiting for years on end for his most wanted present. A steam locomotive and his favourite too! He’s playing with it in front of the fire place day after day, weeks, months but slowly but surely the little train moved from the boys room to the attic where it waited to make place for other forgotten toys and moved to a Misty and water leaking shed were it’s rest till it was found again and restored in it’s old sheen colours and it runs till it’s spring runs to an end and it was put in a closet were everybody could enjoy it’s beauty. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but my youth came along with this video 🥲 how can I thank you for sharing this beautiful video with me 👍👍❤️

First of all: thank you for your videos! There are many reasons why I appreciate them. In random order: great workmanship, relaxed atmosphere without shock effects so typical of our days, great recording, the work soundscapes and the music you have chosen, just the love of old toys, the joy of doing something by yourself and not once more buying more things. I wish there was at least somebody alive who have actually made these toys decades ago. He/she should absolutely see your videos!

Outstanding video, I work on 1940s and 50s model trains and have a few of the old ones. But I like to gut the windup which is usually broken, restore the sheet metal then adapt a 50s electric motor chassis so i can run it on my layout. I one cast metal body that must weight 2 or 3 pounds. Excellent video and technique, you are an artist is the restoration process. Thank You so much for sharing. Dennis in Virginia

It's probably been said before, but the only flaw in an otherwise perfect restoration is with the front driving wheels. They are out of quarter. If it were adjusted, the locomotive would run more smoothly around the track. I was very impressed with the wheel pulling gadget you manufactured, and with your ability to fashion new small parts. Very impressive.

You know the thing is old when you can remove the rivets by bare hands (or gloved hands in this case) What I thought to be the pitting was the coal stack carved onto the piece...wow. There's no way it could have been electric since the clockwork drive is present. The lamp socket is probably used to have a bulb under the chimney to heat oil to produce smoke. This model probably takes inspiration from the streamlined engines from PLM, wich were put under SNCF ownership after the war (SNCF dates from 1937). These were the only streamlined locos in France as far as I know. And these were (and the whole train) painted... blue! (Fantastic work by the way)

Great job with the restoration. There are tools and techniques to re-quarter the drive wheels so it doesn't jump around so much running. It is fiddly work to get perfect.

fantastic job only thing I would have done different, would have been to have used a high fill two pack primer (automotive paint) and wet rubbed that back. It would have removed all the damage done by the pitting but other than that. The whole job is a credit to you 10/10
@TheFabrik

Hello, darling. We are your new big fans - me and my 3 yrs old boy. We are from a family of technologists and we are so happy to watch you work!!! Keeping fingers crossed in each video and highly excited when the work is done and everything works how it was meant. You should rename your brand as a RESCUER OF ABANDONED AND LOST. :-)

I don’t think it had an electric motor… the bulb holder in the front was probably to make the main head lamp at the front light up. I’m guessing the tender had a battery to power it and that’s what he sliding switch / lever on it was for.

Can confirm. This was definitely a wind up model (the hole in the side for the key is original). The battery was housed in the tender. Having the key is quite rare! Cool find and awesome job on the resto!
