When did Churchy become synonymous with inauthentic. If we take communion together, we should confess our sins one to another. It is tge very definition of a Covenant community.

@@jvaz92 that’s exactly what i mean. she was thoughtful with her answers but they weren’t “sexy” enough to the audience or the other panelists, so her answers were overlooked and not seen as all that valuable compared to the other guests. at least that’s how i saw it. she was the most thoughtful one up there for sure

As a millennial, we just want authenticity. We grew up in churches that preached, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Sadly, we watched pastors cheat on their wives and leave their children, homosexual choir directors draw the largest crowds, musicians sleep with all the women, plus more.

Understood, but don’t let the preacher be the one you follow!! Follow the Lord God your Savior! Get the word into your heart so when you do hear something wack, you’ll reject it. Man just follow the Holy Spirit, have discernment, an stay on your face in prayer, stay true with God and yourself and be obedient, and submitted, get delivered from people.This will help all of these issues that came up in this conversation. From the leaders the ushers, the millennials on down to the elders in the church etc.
@denno31243 жыл бұрын
If that's all it is there is no need for discipleship. The Apostle Paul has no need to write to Timothy or Titus if they can just listen to the Spirit. GOD uses His people to do His work. Jesus walked with His disciples for 3 years. Being with someone day in and day out...everything is going to come up from who takes too long in the bathroom to who can stand mustard on their sandwich. These conversations, questions and concerns are reality which is why they are worth talking about lest the believers STRUGGLING with these exact questions never hear them addressed by leaders they can trust and hear from.

Jesus never preached or taught the same. We must be led BY God's Spirit
@MrAntiOrdinary4 жыл бұрын
Fred Felton III are you sure about that? It seems like Jesus used parables over and over and over again.... what do you mean by “never preached or taught the same”?
@makeHimknown34 жыл бұрын
@@MrAntiOrdinary u are correct, but he didn't tell parables every time right?
@MrAntiOrdinary4 жыл бұрын
Fred Felton III Firstly, if you agree that Jesus taught in parables on more than one occasion, then your original premise is wrong and that was my point. We can’t say that the Lord Jesus “never” preached or taught the same because we don’t know that he never repeated a sermon or parable. And of course, as we’ve already noted, He taught in parables more than one. That negates “never”. Secondly, Matthew 13:34 clearly indicates that Jesus’ approach (at least when preaching and teaching to the crowds) always involved parables. I’m not trying to be nit-picky, but I’m always concerned about over-stating a point, especially when it comes to scripture.
@makeHimknown34 жыл бұрын
@@MrAntiOrdinary reading the bible lets us know Jesus did not teach or preach the same. Study and u will see that. We just have to agree to disagree
@MrAntiOrdinary4 жыл бұрын
Fred Felton III LOL... if the Bible shows that, then please educate a brother. There’s no need to “agree to disagree” if you can show it to me in the Bible, sir. I gave you my reason BIBLICALLY for saying that Jesus used parables multiple times (Matthew chapter 13, v.34). Since you say “reading the Bible will show...”, please show.

I am glad for the video because I can learn more about some young black pastors’ perspectives. If we remember that we all start this life depraved, guilty with the destination of hell, then our preaching will be relevant. We won’t focus on style too much if we just be ourselves as we share the gospel. When Christ called you to preach, He already knew your personality, strength, weakness culture etc. Just try to be the vessel ready to be used by the Holy Spirit. Just trust the Holy Spirit and he will lead you. It’s not a numbers game it’s a heart and soul issue

Pastor McClure granted your concerns are valid. Be a kingdom men no matter what. My prayers are with you, your family and saints.
@KiRetteCouture3 жыл бұрын
Content will always matter more than style. If the focus is not on the Cross and it's power, I don't care how feel good it sounds. Speaking of generational issues, I think it's more about a pastor being relatable. Listening to the wisdom of the elders is also not old fashioned. I feel this is something younger generations needs to learn. PS I believe the church worldwide needs more teachers.
@eLLBdotmusic4 жыл бұрын
Dr. Parker was hitting it on style vs context!! Her greatest argument is watching the (Black)Israelites online for hours taking note. Excellent point. I'm still watching but bible study along with attending church to hear a sermon is key. Taking the time to open the bible and do the following up about what the pastor just preach will help with further understanding.

I listened and a lot of valid points from all. What I did notice is that the Men monopolized the conversation and spoke more about themselves and their style or presentation instead of staying on topic. The Females stayed on topic and spoke from how to meet the generation from that generation's perspective. That is the moderators error from not knowing how to keep the conversation flowing and making sure each person had their time to speak. Dr. Brianna gave great methods on how to meet that generation and would've like to hear more. Jackie is correct about knowing the audience that you're speaking to because you have to meet people where they are. Jackie is someone who floats in many spaces not only Black.

Mike, I think so many more will be reached in a deeper way, If our pastors would admit when they have learned something new. My pastor, would speak about something new he learned and lambaste the congregation for not for thinking like the younger him, instead of saying I have learned something new. I appreciate that in you. We all should be in a state of learning when it comes to the Bible and things of that nature. We will never know it all on this side of Jordan.

It’s best to not get this generation to comfortable because they are already comfortable, so it’s not about changing the style of preaching to draw them in but rather to set them free with truth teaching spiritual Discipline and most of all there true identity in Christ Jesus!!!! Identity is an eye opener that draws this generation into a great hunger and thirst for God! I believe a preacher should not be always relating hip hop artists etc with Biblical stories because what this generation need is LIGHT so don’t mix Light and darkness and get them to comfortable but rather teach them spiritual discipline. this generation are simply lazy and lack understanding.

A couple years ago I was asked to teach at a youth event on pre-marital sex or something etc. I don't remember having any intention to, or notes, but I ended up doing a bee line to Cardi B and Offset as an example of a popular yet an unbiblical relationship. We compared the professed love Offset had for Cardi in relationship to how they seemed to be doing as a couple and the amount of children he had prior to etc. The backdrop was looking at their relationship from the pop culture perspective versus a biblical view. Those kids perked up and knew exactly what I was trying to say. That had a profound impact on my view of what I should and should not say. It was the most blatant conversation I had ever heard about sex and drugs in church but it was completed pointing to Christ. Even listening to Dr. Bri say she taught with Nikki Minaj lyrics I was like huh...and then I was reminded when I taught with Cardi B and the Lord used it. It opened my eyes to my inaccurate perspective about context and communication, the differences between trying to be cool with kids versus knowing what the heck they are into.

So then because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth.

I LOOOOVE this Conversation! I am a PK grew up West Coast but have lived in the South so I have seen the change in ministry over 3 decade's now. I think 2 of the most important comments made was Style versus Content and Church Systems versus Structure. These things could be WHY ministry's lose there relevance. BUT 1 question HOW Important is "DOCTRINAL" Preaching/Teaching? We rarely hear it across Black Pulpits 🤔🙄🤔
@josephbass19144 жыл бұрын
While I appreciate and agree with much of what I have heard, I also know that caution is necessary. The Bible is right and it is truth, so it does need props, stages or gimmicks. In addition the Word of God is before the foundation of the world. It is not subject to time so therefore it cannot be irrelevant, because God is not. I understand and agree with contextualization; however, I am concerned that with preaching, church and the scripture, that we are creating a Baskin-Robbins, Burger King and buffet Christianity. The gospel does not need to updated per our generational lens. All people must be open to the gospel and for our desperate need for salvation and forgiveness. Just like the anointing does not reside in a suit and tie so does it not reside in cut skinny jeans. Individuality and creativity can be used for God's glory. However, I have seen them be turned into idols. Remember that this sin-idolatry seems to be man's favorite go-to sin.

Man, this is the problem. The holy scriptures are meant to be simple. Not full of theological definitions and a slew of credentialed individuals. Using one’s intellect to explain a generation and the church is exactly what God warns in the scriptures. Our own wisdom is foolishness to Him. We need to take heed to ourselves and our own ways to look into why we are the way we are and why we face the issues we do. The scriptures need to take its rightful place in the black church again and in every church for that matter. P.S. Jackie is trying her best to get them back to the bible lol.
