Thanks for the review. The Oregon BB is a rebranded Tecomec BB and only about $70 as opposed to the Oregon $117.

When you are cutting grass, those blades are vibrating like crazy from all the turbulence of cutting the grass. The balance goes out the window but does help.

Thanks for taking the time to show us the impact of balancing mower blades. Your reaction to the mower test, with its significantly reduced vibration, convinced me about the need to accurately balance mower blades. I also had a set of new John Deere blades that did not balance well, using a balancer similar to the one shown in the video. Thanks again!!

Wow, that is super outstanding! Next week I will be installing a new Green Guard chute blocker and looking forward to testing this out! Thanks so much!!

Great video. I have this thing and it's a game changer. If you're going to use this balancer, use it to perfection. The blade needs to be level exactly. 15 degrees is too much off. I can feel the difference in mine if it's 5 degrees off. Balance it like you're sending it to space! Your mower will thank you.

You convinced me! Thanks - I've been using the 'top' for 40 years - now that my retirement job is about mowing and fixing mowers - I'm moving up.

I have been using the Magna-Matic blade balancer for over 20 years. I purchased a new Wright Stander earlier this month (18-inch blades). One blade was balanced, one was close, and one was not close. Last spring, I sharpened 18 Ferris blades (21-inch) for a local man. He previously had a farmer/welder sharpen his blades. I could tell that they likely were not balanced. I heard via my son that he immediately noticed less deck vibration.

That’s a great testimony I don’t know why I really never considered balancing the blades, but you can rest assured I will from here on out!

Make sure the center axel is snug so the spindle isnt sagging, lube the bearings with wd40 or amz mp. Must clean off all glued on stickers and grass residue before balancing, if you ck balance after sharpening, grind off the very end of the blade(furthest from center, most effect) save the cutting edge for sharpening not balancing. I have all american sharpener and the same balancer.

That certainly makes sense. I've been grinding the heck out of the cutting edges to balance my blades! 🙈 Thanks for the info!

To me the biggest problem with the top-style balancers is that it depends on resting on a perfectly level surface to be able to read it accurately (who has one of those in their shop??), and that surface needs to be at eye level in order to be useful. Great video.

Those are good balancers. My blades have a star shape hole and I notice that it takes some practice and care to place the blade on the cone correctly. Using two hands helps a lot! Also after the magnets slam onto the blade, gently tip the edges up slightly- both sides- while pressing towards the base of the balancer. Then repeat the whole process a few times before grinding. I've noticed that sometimes the magnets will hold the blade off center slightly which gives you bad info. Do it 3 times or more and you will then know for sure what your blade needs. Perhaps the round hole blades line up more consistently. Another thing I noticed in your video is that it looked like a small particle was stuck on one of the magnets- I'm going to take a look at mine and see if some shop debris has found it's way to the magnets! The one thing that is for sure is that better balance will equal longer life for whatever those blades are attached to and the whole mower. Thanks for your videos and keep on learning!

The teeter totter wont give you an accurate reading on your garage floor. It is graded, it slopes down to drain water. The teeter totter can be just as accurate but you gotta rig it up a little so you can take some objective readings. Not as fast and easy to use as the other one but for a home owner it gets it done.

You probably tried this, but get a blade and get it balanced and then mark the location of your blade to your balancer and rotate the balancer 180° and reattach the blade and then see what happens and that’ll tell you if your balancer is in Balance. You could also try it say 90° from the location that you were you know what I’m saying. Just try to different locations and see if you get the same results.

Have you come up with a mower blade setup fat chops the grass so fine that it looks like it's been bagged! I hate begging grass and don't want to use a mulch kit. I love being able to side discharge. Any tips?

The Ballard Ripper blades with a chute blocker is what we use and it basically vaporizes the grass.

@@GwinnettLawnsTo vaporize the grass, are you keeping your chute blocker open, or do you close it?
@GwinnettLawns
@GwinnettLawns Ай бұрын
@@user-ei9cz2uj8b I usually keep it closed so it mulches it up and I do an inside box pattern so by the time I’m finished it it’s just gone. if it’s wet or damp, do the same thing and then just hit it with the blower real quick and it’s gone.

One more question. Like you, I have a pro slide sulky that's about 13 months old. Already, one of the Pistons is not working properly and needs to be replaced. Do you have a good source for the pistons?

Fisher Barton blades wear the best the Chinese blades are junk Not sure who makes Hustler blades but great video. Some manufacturers powder coat blades like Fisher Barton but it can make a blade out of balance The blade balancer is the best purchase anyone can buy 👍👍

The average lawnmower shop or sharpening service will use a teeter totter for balancing. If you don't do it yourself, you are facing two unknowns. First, is balancer good enough? Second, is the operator motivated to get the most out of the balancer? The last question: Do you even know who will do the balancing, or where? You send it out, it comes back with magic, you pay for what exactly? Some guy did something.

Flip the blade over and try again, you are centering on the countersink or the burred edge, not the hole. Use two hands to hold the blade and move the magnet out, the way you do it has a chance to push the blade to the side. You said that you will grind 10 passes on the light side and 5 on the heavy, obviously you corrected yourself off camera.
