Preincarnation - Tama Rockstar Pro farewell solo November 7th 2021

Henrik: November 7th 2021 was a sad day for me. I sold my Tama Rockstar Pro drum kit after owning it since 1989. I played this solo about 30 minutes before the buyer came to take it away, the original solo was 8 minutes long but I cut some mistakes and some parts that were too repetative out.
The mix on this was done by Christian "Moschus" Moos from spacelab-mixing.com

I had a Tama Rockstar Pro kit, but in the fusion sizes. Great drums! Gigged with them all over SOCAL.

the Rockstars were great, I think the newer ones are of higher quality than they were in the first years, but it was always great value for money, what do you play these days?

I think so, the guy who bought it told me owned a Rockstar Pro before but he wanted to play with two bass drums now :)

@@Preincarnation hey thanks for the reply! Yeah man I love those old Rockstar kits, too man. The one on my channel is an 89 that I stripped and rewrapped. BTW, great playing there to. Just curious what did you replace them with?

@@andrewkalipetis7128 check out the other videos we put on youtube. 🙂 I bought a Artstar II in about 2010, I really loved the Rockstar Pro, but the Artstar II is what I was dreaming of when I started playing in the 80s, and the Artstar II is still king for me. Many of my heroes played it, Scott Rockenfield, Simon Phillips...

I love these old Tama drums. Japan made kits are great just like Pearl and Yamaha kits too. Today i would say that only Star and Starclassic are made in Japan... But i might be wrong...

I think the younger ones were a little bit better but I like the look of the first version more :)

@@Preincarnation I have a white version of the DX and a black one witch is the PRO version (both with the long lugs) they sound really deep and love the attack and the short sustain on them. I also bought the rare ASAMA from the 80's witch i understand came from the same factory as TAMA. ASAMA got a special funky paint on them. The mounting system is very similar of the PEARL mounts.

Just goes to show any drumset can sound amazing through mixing. Fantastic playing. How big was the actual room you recorded in? It's got that stadium sound, but I wonder if that's only from the mixing and mastering.

thank you! the room is about 35m² maybe 40. The great sound comes from the mix. As this shows a good engineer can achieve a great sound without adding samples. Yes the rock star by Tama is a mid range less expensive beginner kit versus a star classic lot more expensive pro kit . Get it?

If I remember correctly the price for the 5-piece Rockstar Pro kit was about the same as the price for a Artstar II bass drum. With the standard Rockstar kit costing even about 30% less than the Pro version. The difference was that the standard was all plywood and the Pro was plywood and american basswood. I really liked the Tom sound of the Rockstar but Artstar II sounds much better. :-)

nope, no triggers, Moschus who mixed this had some trouble with the kick sounds and suggested to trigger the kicks because they were not so great on the original recording, but in the end he managed to get this sound without triggering, if I remember correctly a exciter helped a lot.

IIRC I bought the 5-piece kit in late 1989 and added the 10" tom a few month later. the 14" tom and 22" kick were custom made by Tama because they had already changed the design when I had the money to buy them, I think I ordered them in summer 1990.
