Do Britishers have the right to judge if other ppl are ready for independence?Who gave them the right? For their kind Information: Indus Valey Civilization is one of the oldest and most robust. They were the richest economy for Ages. Do Britishers want to teach them how to govern ... this statement is clearly a mask to gain time to drain more wealth. Have the imperealists really governed the people.. ?? Governing is making lives of population better, improving the economy.But what has happened ?How were people treated ? What had happened to their economies.? What had happened to their natural resources? Who gave Britisgers to rule a whole continent of America with such large land and water and other resources just because they went there and removed native population? The rulers of native countries then were very hospitable to the travellers from imperialist countries and gave them some rights which later were misused to drain wealth from host and weakening them . The industrial revolution with mordern weapons added to the sorrows and aided in wiping away the wealth, natural and human resources. Development in Science is agood thing but what is more important is for what purpose you use it? History of colonialism, and slavery is an example of how it shouldn't be used. Racism is also a adverse byproduct of colonialism.

The Indian girl, gives new meaning to the song "Brown girl in the ring". As some have pointed out, this was soon after India gained its independence from Britain so she was fully aware of the struggles of her nation. The British lad failed to mention that Britain was stealing a lot of the resources of their colonies than what they were putting back. They love to lay claim to building the railways as they did in India, but they were built to transport all the goods out of India. They forced the Indians to grow cotton instead of food and when Britain had a food crisis they shipped all the grain out of India to feed their people causing millions to die of famine in India. This British lad would have never imagined that the UK today is ruled by a Indian PM. The Ethiopia girl was very pretty and smart. Someone said she is a doctor in California. I had imagined her being a leader in her country. The Norwegian was out of luck, because Norway had not colonized any countries as far as I know.

They refuse to identify with the concepts of "illiteracy", "vandalism", " poverty", etc. Just because Ethiopians don't identify with those negative tropes does not mean they don't acknowledge the fact they are Africans. "One cannot just give them a high school education after they have been illiterate for thousands of years" - John Throughout this debate, I do agree John has given some valid points, but this is just outright wrong. I think that John thinks that just because Kenyans were not literate in his language that they must not have any knowledge at all, deeming languages like Swahili as less educated or rich than English. I'm sure he gets this idea from capitalism and white supremacy, but this isn't all his fault - it's just what he was taught. As a British Indian, I have noticed that this prejudice and lack of knowledge of the past has not been learned from. I used to love history, but when I got to high school I realised that it was all written from only one perspective - the whites. I remember coming into a history lesson and my teacher telling us we were going to learn about slavery and the colonisation of India. I was ecstatic as I had hundreds of points to make, and knowledge to share. But the lesson completely took my naïve self by surprise. The curriculum stated that the British brought stability, money and railways to India. They thought it was a better idea to educate the young British generation about trains rather than the suffering they inflicted on the Indians. I remember vividly storming up to my history teacher at the end of class and demanding that the curriculum should be changed. I vented and raged to him about all the slavery and abuse that the British did and I remember shouting about how they r*ped Indian women, leaving them to die and how they had no respect for our culture, trying to re-educate us in a way that they thought was the only way. Their way. My history teacher was a white, British man. He sat and listened to me patiently, nodding and agreeing with my statements. When I had finished, he looked at me and told me I was right. That history IS only taught from the white perspective, it IS made to make the British look better and that everything that I was saying should be taught and recognised. But he also told me that as much as he'd like to change the curriculum, it most probably wouldn't be, as people are more concerned - like they always were, no matter how much they say they've changed - about their public image. I was so emotionally drained that I couldn't reply. He didn't tell me to disregard my views and just learn what I'm told I'm supposed to, but that having strong opinions were crucial to survive in this world of cruelty and that you will be stepped on without them. He told me to stick with them and fight with them and maybe one day that that would change the history books. I live by that now. I have found that I have grown to be a very opinionated, strong, young woman and I am proud of that and my heritage. I have also found that I have a strong affinity towards debating. I'm sharing this in the hopes that whoever reads this doesn't succumb to anyone else because they view themselves and their views as superior to yours. If you believe in something, fight for it.

@@ibrodinho Easy? are you dense or perhaps slow in the head. Ethiopia has been hit left and right throughout many years by nations with more military power and yet Ethiopia has never been colonized. The aftermath of these wars will inevitably have an adverse affect on Ethiopia. However, the blood-shed and the sacrifices made was worth it, because our independence is the main priority. We will continue to have our own alphabet, language, rich history etc. Selling out our country for mundane reasons is weak.

I am very proud of the Ethiopian girl she is so intelligent and proud in her skin. I just watched the other debates but the young Ethiopian boys were not informed, when they said Amhara is better than other ethnic tribes in Ethiopia and we are the lost tribe of Israel. I was very disappointed, because I am more than two Ethiopian ethnicities. This kind of false pride caused the problems happening right now in Ethiopia.

@Abyssinia 024 Hey there, what can I say? This is just ridiculous!! You judged my ethnicity right from my name, I guess so. However, I am Amhara ethnicity though I am ashamed to tell someone who has a blinded and screwed way of judging people. Don't judge a book by its cover. Above all, we are humans. Again, I can assure you my stance on the original topic that I don't believe we, AMHARAS are lost tribes of Israel. እኛ አማራዎች ነን እንጂ ከእስራኤል ነገድ አይደለንም። Thanks.
@aightimmaheadout74843 жыл бұрын
@Abyssinia 024 You are lost and make amhara's look bad. We do not have an OUNCE of blood from any other country, we are purely Ethiopian. There is always the exception of intermingling but it does not reflect on the Ethiopian civilization. This is purely western propaganda in order to divide the tribes of Ethiopia to feel that they are superior to one another. That is exactly how our country will fall if we continue to believe in ideologies that come from thin air. I myself am amhara and I have never once thought of myself as superior to any other tribe because then I would be betraying my moral compass. I refuse to believe in such lies and I suggest you do more unbiased research.

As a Kenyan watching the ignorance of the British guy was offensive and sad at the time because he genuinely believed that they were helping us. I really respect Nilini for keeping a clear head because I'm not sure I would have done the same if I were in her place. The Indians were just as affected as the tribes in Kenya during the colonization, especially since they were forced to provide labor for the Kenya- Uganda railway even though there was no promise of any long term benefits for them. I also don't believe the fact that the British didn't have any other intentions aside from 'helping' the tribes, which, mind you, survived just fine in the centuries before the whites came in,
@tk-69675 ай бұрын
You say that, but the Arabs were pillaging the land before the British arrived. Obviously British policies in Kenya were horrid in the 50s, but they were closely guarded secrets, and the government of the time hid it from even the Royal Family. You are right that the boy didn't know about these policies but to call him ignorant as though he had any way of knowing otherwise is kind of unfair
