I wanted to make a video to clear up some misconceptions about choosing a broker. I think this is really important for my students to listen to so they can make the best choice as they start their real estate career.

I'm almost 5 months into being a new agent, and I'm now realizing the brokerage you choose means EVERYTHING. Here's my advice: 1. Research the real estate practices of residents in your target areas. For example, if most residents in your target areas are choosing Remax to help them buy and sell homes, then would it make sense for you to sign up with Long & Foster? People are sheep. They choose the brands their friends, family, and neighbors are choosing. Sign up with the brokerage that's getting all the business in the areas where you want to mostly do real estate 2. Does the brokerage have a structured plan for ushering in new agents? Or are you left to figure out everything on your own and to get business without anyone's help? There are far too many cliques (teams) at brokerages. These exclusive teams are not motivated to help new agents who will eventually become their competition. It's really sad. 3.On that note, if you notice only agents in teams are making money at your brokerage, then it might be in your best interest to quickly join a team so that you can associate yourself with a team of experienced agents with a steady flow of leads 4. Finally, don't waste time at a brokerage that's not getting you to where you want to be. Some brokerages are very laid back. Aggressively competing in the market with other brokerages may not be something they want to ever do. Sign up with a brokerage that will match your level of motivation and intensity to earn money. If real estate isn't your main job and it's only a casual source of income, then perhaps the laid-back brokerage is actually where you need to be. If you're in this 100%, then find the brokerage where all the high-earning hustlers work. Just know these people are going to expect you to be able to keep up

Hi joe, I really needed this. I took your program and pass my exam on the first try (thank you 🙏) I’ve transition full time into real estate 4 months ago.... I wanna ask your opinion on leads... should my broker help guide me through a few transactions with their leads? Because so far it’s only been on myself to generate my own leads. I know RE is a business but sometimes it feels so lonely, and I feel like a lack of direction for myself. Thanks for your time!

Joe in Miami Florida this subject is a bad animal. I’m Hispanic and the mentality and behavior of a very particular big Hispanic ethnic group in Miami, Florida is the contrary of what you just gave us here on this video example. I’m struggling big time for not being from this particular big ethnic Hispanic nationality group, which out of respect, I will not mention that nationality here. I actually feel like being forced to leave Miami, Florida in order to find a Brokerage that looks for professional agents and not for their particular Hispanic nationality. I know this business is not easy or whatever, but to also feel that I’m not from a particular Hispanic country just because is in majority in this city is just too overwhelming. Oh Joe, I wish you were my broker😭. Thanks for this important video. 👍

@@SmithMGLV I ended up going with a newer brokerage that is a franchise of Century 21..I found they were more eager to help me start out than other more established brokerages that didn’t seem to have an appetite for new agents. They are a bit far from where I live but since a lot of what I do is outside of the building anyway, it is working out okay so far.
