I found a tiny house lizard, a baby. It was dead and I wanted to extract at best the skull via cold water maceration. But it's been two days since I placed it without defleshing in a water jar since it seems such a tiny body, it wouldn't require further defleshing I thought. My question is, can you just put a body(without dissecting or defleshing) for maceration so the water removes the skin too?

Cold water maceration without dissecting & defleshing is a nasty process. For a minimum period of time the dead body could be placed in water for softening of skin for easy removal thereafter. Prolonged entire body maceration generally doesn't yields good results.

@@durbadalgoswami thank you, so first I should put it in open water to loosen skin.

Yes.

But really, your videos are awesome. You should do more of articulation and maceration, it's really informative.

Thanks for such appreciation. Planning to do more articulation in future.

How do you get rid of the bone smell? I've been putting it at bright sunlight and then washing it with hydrogen peroxide over and over again for more than 2 days and it still smells bad
@durbadalgoswami8 ай бұрын
Mine smelled too. Periodic washing with hydrogen peroxide and sunlight drying reduced the smell later on to a certain extent.

I know this comment is long after the video, but what would i do if the muscles, flesh, ect, are already mostly off?
@durbadalgoswami Жыл бұрын
One could start from degreasing part then. Sorry for the late reply.

What percentage of hydrogen peroxide should I use?
@durbadalgoswami Жыл бұрын
For preparation of toad bones I used 20% V/V of hydrogen peroxide. Several other concentrations are also used for bleaching of other animal bones. Further reading :- skullbliss.com/blogs/news/how-to-clean-animal-bones

hello can the h2o2 be replaced with 90% alcohol?
@durbadalgoswami2 ай бұрын
While 90% alcohol can be used in some bone preparation processes, it's not a direct substitute for hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is commonly used to disinfect bones and remove soft tissues. Alternatives to hydrogen peroxide for bone preparation include sodium hydroxide and various enzymatic cleaners. However, the choice of chemical depends on the specific requirements of the preparation process and the type of tissue being removed. It's better to use hydrogen peroxide if it's available.
