I have three adult sons who feel/say the same. I often wonder if the thought of needing to be prepared, for them, is fear based.... more like cognitive dissonance....they just can't comprehend being in such a situation...it's unfathomable/overwhelming and they don't like to discuss or think about it. Am I the 'fearful' one or are they? Their blinders are tightly fit. Two of them have children and that makes me very sad.

What is weird is people using the doomsday term, that is the same as calling shellshock, ptsd; watered down reality is useful for politicians when they are constantly lying to citizens, while securing their own family's future heritage.

Incase of a cyber attack , Im keeping my used 27 oz water bottles. I'll keep about 48 filled with tap water and hope to use 4 every 3rd day to shower. In my sink I'll keep 2 large bowls with water, one to soak, 1 to rinse. The water will be repurposed in the toilet for a flush. Yep, lots of people are not considering any of this. Imagine the shape they'll be in. Not even gas for their car because the pumps will be down and debit/credit won't work. No banks will open, stores maybe closed or cash only, nothing refrigerated, no trucks coming in. Not a good picture.

My well went out several years ago and I found that with a squirt spout on the plastic bottles, I could take a decent shower! One to wet down, then one to rinse, another to rinse if I washed my hair. Used in my shower standing inside a shallow cat litter box(clean of course) and recycle the water afterwards. Worked very well with minimal water.

On a side note.... The sewer plant will not work. Think about where the flushing is not going after all pipes are filled. We bought the camping excrement toilet and peat moss. It comes with extra bags. If this really happens, you will need to plug toilets for others back up coming in. I'm only saying this because we had no electric from a winter storm 2.5 weeks. Back up prep only works so long.

If you are financially strapped, there is a program called EXTRA HELP. You go to Social Services and apply. It’s based on LOW INCOME. Instead of the premium being deducted Social services will pay your premium. First try to see if you qualify for extra help. I wouid NOT advise to cancel Medicare if you have NO other health insurance coverage. I am a retired Social Security employee. You can disenroll, all you have to do is mail or fax form CMS 1763 You can even hand write it or type it. You simply put your name, address and phone number and date and Medicare number/SSN. You simply state I do not want Medicare Part B no longer. I wanted this to be effective April 2024 You sign and date it. We can accept that. It will then be faxed into YOUR record. If in the future, you come back and say I never asked for you to terminate my Medicare. We have the proof that you did. Do this AFTER you have tried applying for extra help AND if you have health insurance from some place else.

I can definitely mix one can of seasoned cabbage ( or any of the beans/corn) with fresh cooked cabbage (or, like I said, a plain can or fresh beans/corn) and it extends the use of the Margaret Holmes can. I had to ask her why sh3 had so much food. She told me she went through the war and remembers not having much food. She would never have that happen to her and her family. She told me that when I joined her family she would teach me to garden and can my crop. We spent many hours around my table canning peaches, pears, apple sauce, beets, beans, carrots etc. she made my children participate telling them if they will eat it they will prep it. She is no longer with us but I am grateful for her time, energy and teachings. I have enough food to last my husband and I to be on our own for at least 3 months. Decades ago I started to use the engine in my vehicle to heat up canned foods, or foods wrapped in aluminum foil, since a car’s typical manifold generates around 1000 degrees of heat having a secure location to place and safely hold food items for heating was pretty simple if needed I even found a small wire basket that fit nicely in a place above the manifold. As an example, can of pork and beans, or even Macdonald burger wrapped in foil fit the bill. On a road trip, where I did not want to fight getting into a restaurant or waiting in a drive through because time was a factor, I instead did the engine cooking option. Would stop for gas, and if hungry would access the whatever I need from the engine compartment. Nothing ever overcooked or exploded because the items stayed around 200 degrees. This idea has generated a lot of comedy and teasing by my friends but to my surprise some of them have even tried it. Since it free, take advantage and reap the benefits. 😂

Buy lanterns now and figure out your bathroom plans too. Our power went out for a couple hours day before yesterday due to a local fire and man those battery lanterns came in handy! They're little energizer ones take 3 AA's found on Azn but man are they bright and have a built in carbineer so you can hang upside down from light fixtures. I was very pleased with them. Also thought better get black out curtains dont want people in town seeing we have light if a week goes by without power you know people will get desperate. Freezer contents I bought tender quick salt, bins with lids and racks that fit in the bins going to turn all freezer stuff into prosciutto hang in closet bought hooks and cheesecloth too. That way I can save most of the freezer I hope anyway.

Thank you for your comment! I did not know what quick tender salt was so I looked it up on Amazon and gave it in my shopping cart. What book(s) do you recommend for how to salt meat? Can you describe more about what you did! What size and kind of bins! What size and kind of racks, etc. Your idea sounds like a very very good idea! 👍👍👍 I put 2” insulating foam cut to size, and put in my windows. The drapes are in front of it. My daughter hot glued cloth to the out side of hers to hide it from her HOA. It greatly helps with the energy costs.

Thanks for the window advice I live where it gets -60F so I resorted also to taping the seams of the windows with painters tape its stops the drafts and pulls off easy in spring. I'm going to glue paper grocery bags together too and put those behind the blinds in a big sheet - tack that up and then hang black out curtains behind that so first layer will look like blinds then bag behind and then the curtains. @@myathehappy_1Thank you. Will look this up! It’s a great idea and new skill to learn. 😀👍👏🏼💕🌸 For the 2” foam insulating panels, I cut them to size to fit the windows in the Home Depot (lumber and hardware store in the US) parking lot on the metal plywood carts they have. I wipe them off when I get home and cover the edges in aluminum tape to seal the edges. The insulating factor is more than my walls. I think it is R-20. I don’t know what it is in Canada. You may have a similar material or even better materials in your lumber stores. One side has a shiny aluminum cover and the rest is either white foam ($20) or a much more dense insulating foam ($40). Go for the maximum insulating factor. I tried both and the more expensive 2”x4’x8’ more dense insulating panel was worth the extra money. These panels cut with a razor knife (box cutter knife). I had to cut from both sides to get through the material. It really dropped my energy costs both summer and winter. Winters here only get down to the 20’s but the summers get up to 115 F. I do not have to use my house air conditioning or heater as a result of these panels. Maybe you will need 4” or 6” of the best insulating foam to keep out the intense cold you have there. So, you may have to use multiple panels for each window, or you may have a superior product for area to handle the cold. I hope this idea helps you! All the best from SoCal-USA. Stay warm! 😀💕🌸☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

I've been doing some research on defense contractors related to my son & I wanting to invest some money in the industry. During that process I stumbled across 3 things you need to be aware of regarding the U.S.A.s inability to properly defend us at the moment if WW3 breaks out. One of these you already know, the other two might surprise you guys: 1. The interest payment alone on our U.S. national debt will begin to exceed our entire defense spending budget THIS YEAR. Just to pay the interest. Obviously interest rates are high. We are in a poor position to borrow massive amounts of money for a major world war. That much you already knew. 2. We have a hole in our military the media is trying to hide from you. The U.S. Navy relies HEAVILY on civilian merchant marines & ships. Congress has been kicking the can down the road for decades on updating this fleet & keeping enough employees. The average age of the ships is 46 years now. Parts are hard to come by. We lack the number of ships we need! I'm trying to tell you we only have the capacity to move our 2 Marine divisions. To over-simplify, we lack the ability to move the U.S. Army quickly & in sufficient quantity at the level of a world war. 3. Biden has drained our Strategic Petroleum Reserves to keep gasoline prices artificially low to help reelect himself. Go pull up a chart of our SPR & see for yourself. He has depleted half of it! I'm trying to tell you we don't have the oil needed to engage in a world war at the moment. It takes a while to drill, pipe & refine. We are in a poor position to borrow. And during a world war, other nations will have no crude to spare to sell us anyway! The U.S.A. is not as prepared for a world war as you think we are!!

I do like to get the Comet or Ajax cleanser. The Dollar Tree usually has the larger bonus size cans and they are great for many cleaning needs. As you said, if you have basic ingredients, you can make so many things, they don't have to be elaborate foods but things that are filling and nutritious. I have a feeling that with so many that eat out all the time and some say they never cook much are the ones that will be a problem if/when the SHTF. They will likely have little to nothing on hand if the stores are out or they do rationing or curfews they will start searching around to see who will hand out things to them or just take them. It might be a good topic to revisit, I don't think most of us could be prepared for how difficult it might be.

If you've ever been truly hungry you'd eat canned or commercially prepared foods thankfully, and you wouldn't care two hoots about labeling. Starving people have eaten grass, they've gnawed on leather, they've eaten flower bulbs. This is not play time for yuppies.

Liliegonz, take the food you would or want to give her n put it na box n set aside. Then when it gets tight for her give it out a little at a time just enough that she won't hurt but not too much that she'll give it away.
