Pres. Bush held what is likely to be his last press conference. In prepared statements, Mr. Bush thanked the press for a job well done. When asked about the in-coming Obama administration, Mr. Bush stated that the "most urgent threat" that Pres.-elect Obama will face is a potential "attack on our homeland."

@looes74 looes74 Same thing was said about bush. People "even young people" were better informed back then. And this was before the internet really started booming. People didn't have smartphones till 2007. Does it not make anyone wonder why Trump was never called a racist and he was welcomed on every liberal late-night talk show until he became president. Then it changed. What changed?

I'm glad Trump slams those mother fuckers every chance he gets. The media is absolutely despicable. And by the way, they are NOT the media or "journalists", they are far left wing nut jobs posing as the media. Just like the 4 liberal justices on the SCOTUS are simply liberal activists wearing black robes. Rid this country of the plague known as liberalism.

@domifab101 During WW2 genocide was obviously committed-- but bombing campaigns, however unpleasant, were done by every major belligerent involved in the conflict (I.e. both ally and axis powers). Bombing cities is a part of war, and while war is terrible it isn't inherently genocidal. I'm not suggesting bombing campaigns are morally justifiable but I am saying they aren't inherently genocidal. Bush wasn't trying to totally annihilate a people.

Well. I wasn't in the Press Corps but we did went through a lot together. This applies to me personally as well as my first and second families. I want to thank President Bush for all that he has done. He commissioned me into the US Army with General Powell' s and 41's reccomendation post 9/11. My military service has been both challenging and very rewarding. Thank you, Chief. President Bush' s leadership through 9/11 and the subsequent years was exemplary and inspiring. He and his administration pulled America together to respond to the tragic events in NYC and later rebuild in its aftermath. Thank you, Chief. American patriotism was renewd with a fervor for national and military service and a passion for caring for our country. And, finally thank you for assisting the individual families in need of protection and support during your time as President of the United States.- 🇺🇲LAKennedy Cuomo

It's clear that his presidency had a profound influence on many individuals, and it's wonderful to hear about your experiences and the positive effects you attribute to his leadership during challenging times, especially in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. President Bush indeed played a significant role in uniting the nation and guiding it through a period of great adversity. His commitment to service and support for military personnel and their families are aspects of his legacy that many continue to appreciate. Your heartfelt message serves as a reminder of the deep and lasting connections that can exist between individuals and their leaders, and it underscores the importance of leadership during critical moments in history. I have wondered on his legacy for a long time. I think he was an honest president who unfortunately epitomized the hegemonic and paternalistic complex of American foreign policy in a very precarious time of its history. I always think that anyone who would have been an American president during his time would have likely acted in the exact same way. If he had not acted, his legacy would have still been equally controversial. I think he did the best he could with all that was happening.

Growing up, i just didnt understand sending 30,000 troops to Iraq. But i guess an old strategy for any country is to convince civilians that might be at risk of breaking the law to go fight abroad to understand what it means to have law at all... Truly i believe there is a better way than that with the technology available to us. Regardless, i appreciated all the homes Bush got people into during his time in office. A strange presidency of contradictions. My understanding of a true politician is to facilitate the life and quality of life of all citizens. War absolutely does not facilitate those principles... GWB likely will not go down as one of histories greatest Presidents. He was there at one of the worst moments in our history, and over the few years following that day in September 2001, he did his job as well as any other person in that office ever had when facing such crisis. He went off the rails (IMO) after being reelected. His successor was someone who will be considered by historians to be an all time great President (also, IMO). In 2016, we apparently hit some weird pocket of space-time, and got knocked into a weird alternate timeline as it's been a madhouse of whackadoo crazy ever since. It seems like the hate, anger, rage, and vitriol that was mostly contained within the extremes on either political side of the fence, (and talk radio/podcasts) became mainstream and normal in 2016, and it seems to be ramping up as we go through 2023. I still think that most voters in this country are attempting to look at both sides, and increasingly seeing no great options as the loudest amongst us just keep getting louder. They make it difficult for the average American that cares, but that doesn't eat, sleep, live and die on politics to follow and discern truth from fiction when it's important.

The American decline began with Obama & accelarated Massivley with Crazy Trump. And yes in that regard you could say George W Bush was the last decent president that America had. Anyway, Biden is too senile to reverse the decline. Americans can only hope that the GOP choose a sensible candidate or that Newsom runs as Dem candidate for 2024.

It's interesting to hear your perspective on the differences in the conversations between past Presidents and reporters compared to the present. The nature of presidential press conferences and interactions with the media can indeed vary widely depending on the President's communication style, the issues of the day, and the dynamics between the administration and the press corps. Each President brings their own approach to dealing with the media and answering tough questions. Some prioritize open and candid exchanges, while others may have different communication strategies. It's important for the media to ask tough questions and hold leaders accountable, as it is for leaders to provide thoughtful and informative responses. Reflecting on these interactions can provide valuable insights into the evolving nature of political discourse and the role of the media in our democracy. It's a testament to the diverse range of leadership styles and communication approaches that have shaped the presidency over the years.

Presidential press conferences have been a longstanding tradition in American politics and are an essential part of the relationship between the President and the media. These press conferences allow the President to communicate directly with the public and answer questions from reporters on a wide range of issues. The frequency and style of these press conferences can vary from one administration to another and are influenced by the President's communication strategy and the events of the time. Presidents typically hold formal press conferences in various formats, including solo press conferences, joint press conferences with foreign leaders, and informal interactions with the media. The frequency of these events can vary, with some Presidents holding them regularly and others less frequently. The importance of presidential press conferences is recognized as a way to maintain transparency, provide updates on government activities, and address issues of public concern. While the format and frequency may change, these press conferences remain a vital means of communication between the President and the American people.

People forget that the way things are now, the way Trump has made things, is NOT politics as usual. I did not like George Dubya, his policies, or his take on what should be the direction of the country. But I never worried about him being a threat to democracy as we know it, and he didnt summon up such vitriol in me. I have a strong feeling despite his world view being bent by religion and viewed through the lens of the Republican party that he did love this country and put country before himself or party.

The Bush's last press conference took place in January 2009. During a second question, a journalist asked him if believed that the Gaza conflict will be ended by the time he will leave the office. He did suggest a sustainable cease fire. Then, he did not hesitate to call the whole international community to clearly identify the value chain of Hamas, the ecosystem that help Hamas threaten Israel and stop doing so so that there could be a cease fire. II. Unfortunately, most of the nations and agents that were helping Hamas and Gaza did pay too much attention to this value chain until the recent Polgrom hit. I hope we'll continue to learn from past mistake in order to build a sustainable peace after the Polgrom of October 7 2023.

Thank you for providing additional information about President George W. Bush's last press conference. It's not uncommon for outgoing presidents to reflect on their time in office and offer insights into the challenges that their successors may face. President Bush's comment about the "most urgent threat" being a potential "attack on our homeland" likely reflects the ongoing concerns about national security and counterterrorism efforts during his presidency, particularly in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Please note that the specific details and quotes from this press conference are based on your description and may not be verbatim. For the most accurate and detailed information about this event, I would recommend referring to official transcripts or reliable news sources that covered President Bush's last press conference, which took place as he was leaving office in January 2009.

Public perception of political figures can evolve over time, and it's not uncommon for former presidents to be viewed differently in hindsight, especially as the immediate political context changes. George W. Bush's presidency, like those of his predecessors and successors, had its share of controversies and challenges, and opinions about his leadership varied widely during his time in office. As time passes and the historical record becomes more complete, people often reassess the accomplishments and challenges faced by former presidents. They may come to appreciate certain aspects of their leadership or have a more nuanced understanding of their policies and decisions. It's also important to recognize that public opinion can be influenced by the political climate of the moment, as well as the contrast between different leaders and their styles. Each presidency is unique, and as new leaders take office and new challenges arise, perspectives on past presidents can shift. Ultimately, how individuals view past presidents is a complex and subjective matter, shaped by their personal experiences, political beliefs, and the historical context in which they are living.

Wow! he really matured during the presidency. I could so easily get behind his version of the Republican party. Bush got played by the neo-cons. But he is a good man.

This press conference and his humility here, has done so much to redeem his legacy. That's something for a guy who left with a dismal approval ratings. His self-deprecating humor with respect to press is from a different era. His genuine kindness towards Obama is so refreshing. No wonder Obama speaks warmly of Bush, and credits him with supporting the transition. I just cant imagine humility or kindness or self-deprecation from Trump. And that will seal Trump's legacy.

Bush is cheesingly funny 😂😂. It’s really refreshing to hear him speak to the press and to speak about President Obama given who we’ve been listening to for the past 3 years

They call me a hick and don’t think I’m refined enough to fit in. They think I lost and happy to lose if that means rejecting whatever this has been.
