We’ve watched our rooster herd the hens into their house then stand in the door watching the sky when a hawk is around. God’s creation is amazing.

They Absolutely Are! I am 63 years young this year & 2 years ago lost my best friend who was 95. He & his family lived & farmed their places just like the Browns do. His wife of 93 passed away exactly One week later after his burial. I have no children & am single. I moved off around 75 miles from where they lived & no No One here as I went through a divorce 4 years ago. Im very private & dearly miss my every other weekly drive when I would go down to visit them. They had celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary that year, & it was extremely hard on me to see them go. He was still driving his car & would always be on a tractor or working in his Summer or Winter Garden! You all remind me of them so very much! God Bless You Both & so sorry to hear about the Ducks. Also your greenhouse & gardens are just beautiful as are the trees you planted! I hope Mr Brown & the daughter got plenty of doves. I bought 4 shotguns at an estate sale when living in tx that I had planned on using when moving back to ky in 2010. 2 or 3 are 20 Ga, One a very Old Ithaca Dbl Barrel 1905 in perfect condition. The other 2 I believe are both 12 Ga Remingtons but Ive yet to be invited to Dove Hunt as People I knew from living here over 20 years ago before leaving, are all gone now or their children just don’t allow hunting & were small children when I left in 1991! Lastly I thought it cool that Mrs Lori mentioned that shes more of a Fall & Winter Girl, as they are also my Favorite 2 Seasons! I can’t wait to see the Wood Cook Stove Fired up! 😊 So bless you both & stay safe ✝️

I worked for the school district for 40 years driving school bus in the worst snow storms Minnesota could give me all the time dreaming of when I retired and could be what I wanted from a little girl on.. a house wife! So sorry to hear about your ducks. I know it's part of life, but it always hurts. I guess hawks have to eat too, just wish they would find something other than friends/pets. I also think that using what ever the heck appliance you want to is just common sense, not something for others to comment on. Some people are just not happy unless they can say nasty things. I truly do not know why some people have to be so critical of others. You both are such preservers of the old way. Using a modern appliance in times of need is not taking away from your love of the old ways. You both work long hours and keeping a homestead going. Gardening is a full time job let alone working outside of the home too. Never let someone on here make you feel you have to explain yourself. We love you and your way of living. So sorry for your loss of your hen ducks. I pray everyday this world will be at peace and harmony. Love is so easy to give yet some just seem to want to be miserable by hating. My husband would just love to be there shooting with your family. 😃😃 Oh! I am 74 and I have never heard of preserving an egg. Wonderful! We had chickens too……….sorry for this long response.

I use pickling lime in that same saturated solution (4oz/1gal) for homemade fresh nixtamal/masa. I've weighed it several times on the microscales. My consistent results for pickling lime are: 1oz=4tbsp=1/4cup spooned into 1/4cup & leveled And yes gloves are absolutely necessary. If you don't your cuticles will dry and you'll get hangnails really bad. Ask me how I know. ☺

When I watch your videos I always feel like I've visited with my favorite people 🤍 I grew up on a new homestead in Nevada as a child. I had never heard that we can preserve eggs this way ! At 46 yrs old I learned something new today. Thank you! Also, nevermind if someone criticizes your cooking method or how you live. You have taught us all so many things about preserving ,cooking ,life and good living. Your subscribers love you both and appreciate that you let us into your life. All "old" ways were once "new". Think of a old, heavy steel pressure canner with a simple gauge. Those didn't exist in Bible times but if you used one now we'd think it was old ways🤣 Anyways, just know that we all think you are wonderful and love to "visit" with you when ever you post. Have a blessed weekend.

My Mom used to cut up old quilts, sew them into tubes with a drawstring at top and bottom to slide over her jars that needed to be kept in the dark. Worked well. Sorry about losing the critters. Hello Red Rooster Kitchen, I have an Insta Pot-type of cooker*, but as I am disabled & can't stand on my one good leg for more than 20-30 seconds, and haven't figured out a place to put it down lower, and a place to cut stuff up to cook in it, I have not used it yet. Then there's my depression, PTSD & etc... If/when I figure out the logistics, will you tell me please how you think would be the best way to overcome by silly 'intimidation'? *It's a 6 quart (I live alone) 'Emeril Lagasse' with an air fryer top attachment. Thank you, Nanette

Great video as always! So sorry about your loss, it’s never easy to lose something you have cared for. Would love to see some more Bible time with Mr. Brown, and of course you too! I always feel renewed and peaceful watching all your videos. If I ever get to your State, I would love to meet you. My parents lived in Little Rock, for years. I’ve never been. Blessings!

So very sorry for the loss of your ducks. My grandfather (farmer) always told me that getting so close to your animals is never good. Because the circle. He would tell me a weasel, hawk, rat, fox also have to eat. Time for new ducks and a better mouse trap or deterrent to keeping those pesky critters out. I love you Ms. Lori and Mr. Brown. It broke our heart to see how upset Mr. Brown was.

Don't you worry about people that like to flap their tongue.. my mother used to say that the tongue has no bone.. but it's really none of their business when you say that you are the keeper of old times that just means to me that you can you provide for your family you cook from when you remember you were a child you Garden so it's really Nobody's Business whether you use a blender on air fryer or anything so don't you pay attention to those bad people they're just envious and envy it's a bad thing God bless you you'll be well and I pray for you all the time and I myself watch your Channel I love your videos God bless you again many blessings many good Lord open up your Gates of Heaven and pour down blessings upon you and your husband and all your family have a great day.

It is Sept 4 today that I'm watching your videos and it is pouring down with rain here! I have never heard of preserving eggs in line water and it is good to know 😊 we often but eggs from a local guy and they not always lay. Oh,I made your pear upside down cake and it is wonderful. I did add pecans as we do like nuts in our cakes and bars.

I love your videos. I can no longer cook or garden and miss it very much so I'm incredibly thankful to watch you work and share and celebrate these simple and rewarding pleasures. Also- smoked paprika is like an aged burst from a setting sun and it is perfect on chicken thighs. So sorry about your ducks- I'll keep you in my thoughts. Be safe and warm- have a great Labor Day.

You are definitely a keeper and teacher of the old ways, even if you accept some of the new, as many of us do! If my grandparents were still living, they too would buy some new and modern things from time to time. Also, with both of you working a full time job as my husband and I did for so many years, I applaud you for doing the gardening and preserving that you manage to do. Thanks for the instruction on how to store fresh eggs! I've never done that. Also, you and Mrs. Brenda Gantt have convinced me to buy more chicken thighs, and you and Mrs Amy Murray (Amy's Louisiana Kitchen) have reminded me that I'm not crazy for loving smoked paprika as I do. I love watching your channel.

Thank you for another video. I always learn new ideas and they bring me joy....and that's something most of us need these days. I am saddened about your ducks. We have huge hawks that perch in our oak trees. Our yards are small and they prey on all our wild ducks, turkeys and small pets. I was shocked when my husband & I saw one swoop down on a jack rabbit...such keen site. I have an Instapot Air Fryer but it's too big for my counter space so I plan to get a smaller one. There's lots of folks nearby that will be rebuilding their lives. I wish they had air fryers when I worked 10 to 12 hr days and needed fast convenient ways to fix healthy meals. I relied on timed crackpots, electric woks (pretty amazing what you can cook in them), meals I cooked and froze etc. Nothing compared to the work you put in, just bulk buying and freezer meals. You what you can to create the healthiest meals for the ones you love. BTW, your nails look pretty. I have mine done too and depending upon the polish they'll stand up to alot of abuse and home and garden work with gloves. Your genuine goodness always shines through.

Love your videos Miss Lori! It took me two days to finish this one, but I finally did. I don't have an air fryer, but I made some BBQ chicken in the oven the other day that was pretty good! I don't judge you for using it...I know you both work all day. You are right...There aren't enough hours in the day! I love how you stand there doing dishes and talk to us! Dishwashers are nice for glasses, plates, bowls, and silverware, but not for alot of pots and pans and utensils. I admire you for working outside the homestead and still making a home cooked meal! So sorry about your Hen Duck. :( I hope you and Mr. Brown had a chance to relax some this Labor Day Weekend! Wishing you both a great week! God Bless.

Wow! I had no idea you could preserve eggs. I live in the city and don’t keep chickens. What a fascinating process! Once again you have brought a smile to my face and joy to my heart. I am glad you take advantage of some modern conveniences Ms. Lori. Twelve hour work days deserve a quick meal. And by the way, that rain was a blessing to see. We have been dry in California for so long. Love you and hope your holiday weekend is full of fun.
