A cool piece of radio I bought it as a birthday present for my lil nephew he turned 15 yrs old. He has a lot of fun with it. And me and him installed his 3EL. V-Quad Delta Loop. Now he is all set to talk to the whole World.

Just received this radio. Set up a Solarcone A99 antenna on top of a 20' pole by myself. Trusted the tuning to be correct as most videos confirmed. Grrr...looks like I need to adjust the tuning wheels a bit. So, of course it is higher than I can safely reach. I am 75. Anyway, thanks for the very clear explanations. Best review I have seen.

My first cb radio purchase in my life will be today. I'm getting this President McKinley with the Firestik K11 mag mount, and the President Maryland antennae. Fortunately my 2008 Land Cruiser has a steel roof. Thank you for this video and all the others about President products. I'm not an electronics guy but I love the menu and the ability to change things quickly. I think CB's will grow in more popularity as driving appls like Waze and Google Maps do not update road/traffic conditions quickly. Instead, in many of my cross-country travels, I didn't know of an issue until I was immediately upon it. Thank you again for this detailed video! Keep up the great work!

These are really good radios on ssb and have good frequency stability. Clarifier can be unlocked for tx rx tracking and it really shines. Also ssb power output can be turned up a bit for a little more punch running it barefoot. The export model of the McKinley is super nice with all the extra channels etc...

Finally got down in the queue to this video! Worth the wait. This looks like a pretty good radio.

This is the first “ new” CB radio I’ve seen. I’m old enough to remember the OLD President radios. This seems to be a nice and simple to understand/ operate, with some good features. I like the SWR function. I was into CB radio way back in the day. I do plan on getting one for my vacation, as I will be doing a lot of driving. Waiting for the next video. Cool. 📻🙂

I like that power connector in the back. The Midland 13-882C 23-Channel that I used to have had the same power connector on the rear just like this one.

The best president radio I've operated was the first generation Lincoln, I've been thinking about getting a McKinley for about a year but I haven't gotten to any reviews yet.

Very good video. After a month of watching videos and online research I am installing this exact radio in my vehicle. I had a hard time deciding between the President Lincoln 2 or the President McKinley, but it’s going in my Buick so the weather channels and weather alert pushed me toward this unit. I really fretted over FM because I have not been on CB for years. I had no idea how much FM was getting used on the road. The eventual decision came down to Lincoln 2 AM, SSB, FM, or McKinley AM & SSB with weather functions. For an over the road radio, weather seemed important. I plan on upgrading the antenna cable and using a magnetic whip. This was a very good video for me to learn the complete operation and all the functions before it’s installed. HUGE THANK YOU! I feel more confident about my choice.

new to your channel, first video I've watched. you did a great job reviewing the radio. you hit all the high points, you didn't go off into the weeds on anything and you didn't assault my ears with um, uh, like, you know, etc... Well i finally dunn it, and it's all you your fault! This week I purchased Pres McKinley radio to get back into CB. I used to be trucker and miss having one for road trips. Really liked the DIN size, front speaker, SSB (something new to learn!), and scan on this one. You, Farpoint Farms, DX commander, MikesRadioRepair, and cbradiomagazine are all to blame ;) Thanks! Looks like the adjustable power option is normally set to max which would be around 4 watts and if lowered it would reduce the output power for a very short range, (~ 100 yards or so), so not to overdrive the receiver.... A power meter could verify or discover exactly what the output power adjustment range is.... Thanks for a concise review of this radio....

I wish they made an updated version of this that also included FM. Using single side band on FM in the CB frequencies would be interesting

I just set up this CB radio as an in-dash install in my 2009 Toyota Tacoma.

I had to tune the USB/LSB on mine as it was off quite a bit. Peaked up the modulation a bit while I was in there. Sounding perfect now. It's pretty sad I had to do that to a radio right out of the box.

When you search memory do you have to search 9 & 19? Or can you only have it search your favorites?

Very nice Radio tks. This Radio in Portugal it´s a Star. Working so good in JS8call, 27,245 USB, with integrated VOX, this is our channel in the world for this kind of comms. Tks again fer nice sharing. In Portugal I'm working in old radios and to get them a new facility, an home made Vox, and reduce the modulation and power in SSB, to be prepared to js8call comms. I have the very good Presiden Grant, that could reduce the power in mic Gain, and Cobra 146 GTL, that I have to reduce the power on RV5, 6 and 10, and work pretty good too. 7351.

Great video. So I can actually have 5 channels to scan? I like 19, 20, and 38. If I hear someone (scrambled) on 38 I will switch to LSB. My preferred channels make 3 + the 9, and 19 make a total of 5. That's what I'm seeing on my radio. I hear people speaking Spanish on channel 9 similar to the Channel 6 Super Bowl. Is there anyway to do away with channel 9 and replace it with something else. Or, is there a way to just scan my preferred channels of 19, 20, and 38?

FYI, I just watched another video on this radio and learned that it can be unlocked to cover ~25.5 MHz to 30 MHz by moving a jumper on the circuit board.

Nice video very informative but I just have a question or two before I pull the trigger on one of these and even though that auto SWR setting that you just talked about seems pretty nice but is it really wise to set your SWR that way while you’re standing in the ground plane of the antenna and while you’re handling the antenna while you adjust it? Seems to me that if you would want a lot better and a lot more accurate SWR setting of your antenna that you’re just better off to do it the old-fashioned way with an external meter so that like if you have the antenna mounted on a semi, you can close the doors, roll the windows up, take your measurements and then make your adjustments to the antenna and then re-close the doors and test again until you have the lowest possible SWR on 1 and 40.

Great job on the video. I have a question, though. Did you remove the foam inside the mic? I heard if you leave the foam in the mic, it makes your audio sound weak when your transmitting.

How would you tune SWR with dual FireStik antennas? I bought the McKinley and I’m debating putting it in my work truck, which had dual antennas.

I just purchased a President MCKINLEY USA SSB 12/24V CB Radio. I am new to this. Is there a ac/dc adapter for these for in-home use?

I'm just waiting for the McKinley to add FM to this radio -- like the the export model McKinley (TXPR600?) to the UK/EU. Will be using it as a Base Station mainly. Their "compact" Bill II FCC has FM (am putting one of those in my Jeep Gladiator), but so far the McKinley (USA) does not -- I'd like all 3 bands on the McKinley so I'm waiting. Patiently. ;-) -- BR

This mush have FM/LSB/AM/USB and is an 40 channel with a high button giving 80 channels 40 low and 40 high.

Hey I've watched some of your videos, im curious about getting this president for my truck . I have a marine radio permit as I'm a captain . Do I have to have a ham operator's license to operate this type of radio on SSB ? I'd appreciate the input!

Is the displayed frequency an actual frequency counter display, or simply what the frequency should be for each channel?

These radios in this version are no longer for sale. The new version will be available some time by the end of January. The new version no longer has the weather function to comply with the new FCC part 95 Class D regulations. The weather button is now a band selector switch to go between the old 40 channel Am SSB band to the new 6 channels plus FM only band. The new band starts at 27.435 and ends at 27.535. The new FM band is available to start using December 31, 2021 midnight eastern time.

Are you sure about tuning SWR while the Radio is transmitting you could get RF Burn?

I own a President MC Kinley EU version which I modified to an export version. You just have to cut the white wire and move over a jumper to get the export version EU President MC Kinley which has FM / AM / USB and LSB. With the export version you can transmit and receive from 24MHz all the way up to 30MHz. The only thing different between the USA President MC Kinley and the EU version is that the EU version has NO weather channels and the EU version has FM where the USA version has AM and SSB!!! After the EU MC Kinley modification you will transmit with 20watts FM and AM and 12 watts on SSB!!!
