Actually I believe this speech was made on March 4, 1941. September 11, 1941 was a fireside chat in which FDR reported on the USS Greer incident which was basically what got us more involved in the war and helping England without an official declaration. War with Germany and Italy was not declared until December 11, 1941.

Territorial unanimity among democracies is the only possible functional large-scale democracy, or at least military-economic alliance. Putin, Xi, Modi, the theocrats, the Latin and African generalissimo systems, et al, want a new era of dictatorship to supplant the economic and social and political gains of the relatively recent western liberal ascendancy -- an innovation which created the first global middle class, ended slavery, and brought scientific progress to the common people. It is clear we cannot go back to a new feudalism. NATO is for all intents and purposes the new Allies, and thus the new UN, simply waiting for the best chance to peacefully, or otherwise (heaven forbid), dissolve the last gasp of ancient Asiatic autocracy. We all know which side will bring light to people, and which will bring darkness to all future generations of mankind.

@@johncharles304 no we don’t. We have also dropped that throughout the latter half of the 20th century. His accent is known as the trans-atlantic accent. It was a fabricated accent, one which was created and learned in school and not one that developed over time and eventually became what it was. It became the accent of hollywood and radio which is why it is so commonly associated with the time. It eventually began to die out in the 1940s-50s and few spoke it in the 60s. It is now only spoken when portraying past events or in cinema/tv in which the actors’ character is from that era.

FDR was a man of the people! Easily one of the greatest presidents of all time, he was known as a traitor to his class because of how much he helped the common man during the Great Depression. To call him a dictator is unfair and wrong as there’s a reason why he kept getting elected, because the will of the people wanted his policies to stay.
@broadstreet21

@@UnitedStates17 I said he was as close to a dictator as any POTUS ever came. Enacting far reaching policies and welding more authority than anyone before or since, ones that were even more involved in people's lives. And sure, everyone approved of it strongly, only because the alternative was extreme poverty and invasion by Germany or Japan. You know, Putin also has the same kind of public approval in Russia. Call him a dictator, but most Russians agree with most of his decisions.
