In this video, I detail comic book defects that are pressable or cleanable. In your quest to find graded books that have potential for "grade bumps", it is imperative that you understand what things can and can't be fixed. I walk through each of them and show examples. I end with a practical example of a "bump" project that I am currently undertaking.

If your comic has tears, rips, missing edge/piece, color break folds, creases, I would not bother with pressing or grading. It really is that simple. CGC or really any grading company is going to mark down SEVERELY for any of these issues.

yes they do add value. They are a lower print variant of the "same" issue.

Glad you find it useful! Practice a lot before trying on a "real" book. When I started out, I would purposely try to "break" the book to understand the tolerances of everything.

i thought nowadays you CAN deal w/tanning using UV light. I hop this is the case. Also, wonderful vid but I wish you would've talked about minor (less than 1/8th of an inch) tears- and whether or not they can be glued SO LIGHTLY that they seemingly disappear. Is this possible if one is super careful/stealthy? I'm sure the answer's "no" but I do wonder if there's a way to do it (repair a TINY tear) and get away with it. Again probably not but I'm just imagining...

CGG is PGX. The company that is current PGX spent its first couple of years as CGG before (I assume) CGC threatened legal action for copyright infringement (the name was too close to CGC).

Ahhh... great information! That makes a lot of sense. PGX has some of the most unpredictible grades I have seen. A 8.0 could be a 5.0 by CGC standards!

I think that AMS 31 has a very good chance of becoming a 6.5. It is a popular comic and a one grade up bump is significant improvement for such grade sensitive comic.Gl.

This is a great video! 👍I've got a lot of comics that are modern but my uncle in law has a HUGE collection with some MAJOR keys... would love to get them in a press and this video helps alot planning on picking up a press and getting to practicing then... to start with the books I have access to.. then... TO THE DOLLAR BINS!!!!! lol 🤣great stuff man I am now subscribed to your channel for the great info!

I have a lot of books that were water damaged after a contractor broke a water line in my home. There is no staining on the books and they range from light water damage to some pretty significant waves along the bottoms of the books. I'm trying to decide if it is worth the time, effort and money to invest in a press and attempt restoration. These books consist of an entire long box of comics, mostly Spider-man and Venom mini's from the 90's and early 2000's. How effective would pressing be on water damaged books? I love the content you are putting out! I'm looking forward to trying out some restoration techniques on books from my early days of collecting (30 years ago).
