#biologyanimation The pressure-flow hypothesis explains why phloem sap
flows from source to sink, and experiments build a strong
case for pressure flow as the mechanism of translocation
in angiosperms.
1. Loading of sugar into the sieve tube at the source reduces water potential inside the sieve-tube elements. This causes the tube to take up water by osmosis.
2 This uptake of water generates a positive pressure that forces the sap to flow along the tube.
3 The pressure is relieved by the unloading of sugar and the consequent loss of water at the sink.
4 In leaf-to-root translocation, xylem recycles water from sink to source.

Each ribonucleotide base consists of a ribose sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base. Adjacent ribose nucleotide bases are chemically attached to one another in a chain via chemical bonds called phosphodiester bonds. Unlike DNA, RNA is usually single-stranded. Additionally, RNA contains ribose sugars rather than deoxyribose sugars, which makes RNA more unstable and more prone to degradation. www.nature.com/scitable/definition/rna-45/#:~:text=Each%20ribonucleotide%20base%20consists%20of,RNA%20is%20usually%20single%2Dstranded.

Mam I did not understand how the phloem sap is coming from source to the sink after the transfer of water from xylem to phloem . Plz explain
@drawinggirl9303
@drawinggirl9303 Жыл бұрын
Aree in leaf(source) water is less because 90percent lost by transpiration...food is there So the xylem pushes water in upward direction near the source Water and food enters the phloem It helps in easy transport of food Food in unloaded at sink Water is gone to the xylem again

What is sap
@RethinkBiology
@RethinkBiology 10 ай бұрын
Sap is the fluid transport system of plants. It consists of two types of sap: xylem sap and phloem sap. Xylem sap carries water and minerals from the roots to the leaves and other parts of the plant. Phloem sap carries sugars and other organic molecules from the leaves to the roots and other parts of the plant. Sap helps plants to grow, maintain their structure, and perform various metabolic processes.

What actually is the hypothesis? I don't need round round explanation 🙄🙄
@RethinkBiology
@RethinkBiology 10 ай бұрын
The pressure flow hypothesis is a theory that explains how food (sucrose) is transported through the phloem in plants. It states that food moves from a source (where it is produced or stored) to a sink (where it is used or stored) by a pressure gradient created by osmosis. The main steps of the hypothesis are: At the source, sucrose is actively transported into the phloem, creating a high concentration of solutes (low water potential). Water from the nearby xylem moves into the phloem by osmosis, increasing the hydrostatic pressure in the phloem. At the sink, sucrose is actively transported out of the phloem, creating a low concentration of solutes (high water potential). Water from the phloem moves back into the xylem by osmosis, decreasing the hydrostatic pressure in the phloem. The difference in pressure between the source and the sink drives the mass flow of sucrose and water through the phloem.
