That is the cleanest (pre-clean) patio I’ve ever seen.

The detergent dispenser on your Karcher is meant to be used with the lance at its lowest setting; that way it soaks the area to be cleaned before pressure washing. Obviously allow some soak time between operations. On the subject of Ivy, I am plagued with it in a wooded area at the rear of our property. It is all over the ground, and I'm constantly pulling it off the trees, some of which have actually died and fallen in the past.

You’ve inspired me, if the weather’s good in the morning I think I’ll get the karcher out but with the patio attachment. Definitely saves water and me having a bad back 👍🏻

I found you use a lot more water using a lance. We cleaned our natural stone patio using a Karcher patio rotary cleaner. It used far less water and brought the patio up lovely.

I would also suggest that you always give the patio a brush over with a broom before you start any jet washing that way you will have removed any stones from the surface before you start thus reducing the chance of one being pinged up into your glass doors/windows or worse still eyes. I would also always make sure as much as you can to jet wash away from doors and windows to further reduce the chance of a stone strike.

Right so I watched this as you and your channel are great but didn't really think I would learn much from this one as I did my patio last spring and it looked pretty good... however!! 1. Glad you said what you did about the Karcher unit, pulled me big boy pants on a year or so ago and bought a similar one and nice to know they last. 2. Completely agree, the stupid spinny head thing is nowhere near as effective as the 'standard' one. 3. Great tip on working backwards then hosing down afterwards, have always worked forwards to blast the crud away as you go BUT, dry hands and sockets are happy hands and sockets and finally.... 4. You're right, pressure washing slabs is THE most satisfying job in the world... boring Dad moment right there! 😄 Thank you Stuart for another great vid, good luck for the future! 👍🇬🇧💪

Stuart I found protecting the house from splash backs by using a 6ft x 3ft x 1/8 thick plastic sheet saves a lot of clean up time.

Karcher is ok for smaller jobs with light dirt on anything that has heavy dirt or block paving needs a big machine to make a nice job.

Snap. I was doing the same last weekend. I used the Karcher rotary patio cleaner head for most of it & the lance for the hard to get to bits. I even did the tarmac on my drive which had gone a bit green. As you say, there's something strangely satisfying watching those slabs change colour. Glad to see most of your seeds are working. We have a spare bedroom full of seed trays & it's has just cost a small fortune to buy 2 x self assembly (cheaper than buying the wood & making myself) raised cross legged V shape planters & filling them with enough compost for the veg we are planning to grow. Also meant to say we have remarkably similar houses. We also have white rendered, anthracite frames and doors, gravel round the edge and then patio. It’s a really nice look I think!

I would definitely invest in the patio cleaning thingamajig. The rotary nozzles keep the dirt and spray down and speed up the process by quite a bit. Even their simple one works surprisingly well, even though it doesn't look or feel like much.

Hi Stuart, my good lady is a top amateur gardener and she always (just last week for this new season) uses a 50% mix of vinegar to water to hand-spray very carefully onto our old stone flags in our garden to remove the winter algae etc......have to be very careful and leave o/nite before a simple rinse ( not pressure) so as not to affect surrounding flowers etc. Good thing is Morrisons 'Saver' vinegar ( "other cheap and nasty ones may be available " 🤣 ......you can tell I spent 35 years in TV 😆😆😆) is only about 89 pence a bottle....works on weeds too but be careful where you use. For about 2 days you get a smell which resulted this week in me asking " have you been using silicone???" nope it's acetic acid (I think)...keep it up Stuart !

My problem is that I have block paving not slabs, every winter the moss and lichen colonize the kiln dried sand used for jointing them. The patio cleaning attachment can't cope so I have to use the high pressure setting which turns my pressure washer into a sand blaster and I spend more time cleaning up afterwards than jet washing the blocks. Fortunately it's a job that allows the use of "big boys toys", thankyou Karcher, and only limited skills so it's well within my comfort zone. 😊

Looks like the next video might be how to reattach guttering down pipes on my conservatory! Nice video. I always worry about washing away my pointing doing this.

You can get a Kärcher 10m extension to the hose which considerably reduces the need to move the machine.

We use Monty Miracle, no jet washing required.. brilliant results

I did my patio just last week! Amazing difference to the garden; it's a much nicer space now. I am surprised you haven't got the patio cleaner attachment as it makes life much easier! I'd also recommend wearing wellies. Many a time I've ended up with soggy feet after doing some power washing. Surprised you didn't mention using an RCD socket - unless you're relying on your modern electrics inbuilt system?

Got the identical patio slabs, (from MKM) but my Karcher decided to remove several pieces of jointing compound.

Best accessory you can get for those pressure washers is a longer high pressure hose. I got a 20 meter one. Saves alot of hassle moving the equipment, power lead, water hose etc.

Hi Stuart, another great video, love your content buddy, but I was really surprised that you made no mention of a patio tool in this video? I use a K7 on my patio/alley/driveway and I wouldn’t do it without the patio tool to avoid all the shit spraying everywhere, and with the K7, it’s powerful enough to not need to get anywhere near as close to the stone as you seem to on yours… I can keep the lance at least 18” away and it shifts it pronto too. An extra extension tube saves a lot of slouching over too 👍🏼 I don’t know if you know this but that detergent tube is meant to be used on a low power setting to spray onto the patio, then leave to soak as you said. Your not meant to use the detergent tubes thing on full power 👍🏼 The K7 seems to mix it and apply on low power really well. Keep up the awesome content mate

Having just bought a new house, which kindly came with it's very own endless list of jobs to do, I'm loving your channel Stuart! You clearly know your stuff and have a wonderful knack for sharing your knowledge. I've presssure washed the patio but made the mistake of hanging around on the joints a little too long. Do you have a video of you repairing damaged or deteriorating joints on a patio?

Some tips. Use an industrial extension cord (10-15 amp?) Mine won't turn on with a domestic cord. The little tube to suck up detergent etc. only works when the machine is set to low pressure. Basically you wet everything with the low pressure detergent mix then blast it off. My rotating wand sprung a leak in the top. I couldn't get a replacement so I sealed up with a hot glue gun. As well as eye protection I also wear ear protection. It is a bit loud for me and I have a big area to do. I also wear steel toed boots. But I use them for any outdoor or handyman jobs.

Use the Karcher circular brush with a detergent.

Due to lack of regular cleaning, I find, when I do finally get around to it, I need the dirt blaster attachment to do this job. It looks like, like mine, your dirt blaster is not working properly. They have a tendency to fail prematurely and drop significantly in performance or stop working altogether. I have found that they are difficult to repair (kits are available) and the non-Karcher brand replacements don’t last.

I used to do mine like that then I got the patio attachment for the Karcher …makes it soooo much easier and quicker …. The lance alone just takes forever ….

Your methodical and far more skilled than me. Tricky one power washing patio eventually cement will break up What l do to save time is spray anti fungi chemical on patio bit like spray and leave. As the days pass the slabs turn back to original colour and the best bit it continues to work for months.

I was told to always try to pressure wash on or after a wet day. As the rain will do what you do with your saucepans and give it a pre soak.

4:47 - You're not supposed to use the detergent at high pressure. You use it at low pressure just to spray some detergent over the area, leave it for a bit, *_then_* you switch to high pressure (without detergent) to wash it off.

Good video but I wouldn’t use the lance on my pointed York stone as the pressure would damage the pointing. Definitely recommend the specific patio cleaning attachment.

Hi Stuart Iv got the K7 jet washer love it mate. I know the feeling your on about when you see the dirt coming off your flags and start to look like new again 🙂and you can’t stop until you’ve done the lot lol Reading some of your comments and most of them seem concerned about your drain pipe on the back of your conservatory/extension lol lol next video how to repair a downpipe on your guttering 👍👍👍👍

My tip - Use a clamp to hold the trigger depressed for hands free cleaning without the hand ache/annoying vibration! Especially with the rotating lance!

Gotta watch those filling pulling toffees. 😂 Have a go with some sodium hypochlorite when you get chance. Spray on, leave 15 mins and rinse with a hose. Shifts all that green without risking joints. Brilliant for block paving. 👍

I have a concrete drive which gets bad over a year. I buy a couple of cheap biological washing powder boxes from Lidl and brush the contents over the drive just before I know a big storm is going to hit in October/November, the rain activates the powder. This leaves a white residue which disappears over time and makes it a lot easier to pressure wash in the spring.

8:00 - All the cables should be doubly insulated, and designed to work fine even underwater (note that this isn't necessarily true of the plugs / outlets - although you can buy waterproof ones as well). Keeping the cables wet actually helps prevent overheating, which can happen if it's a sunny day and you don't fully uncoil them (as you should - the current they're rated for is based on the assumption that they're _not_ coiled).

9:23 - By changing direction exactly when you hit the joint, you're actually spending _more_ time on the joint than if you just moved the jet quickly over it. The water doesn't slow down, but you do, so the high pressure jet is actually hitting the joint for more than 2x as much as when it's moving over the middle of the stone (count the number of frames and you'll see). In other words, you're doing exactly the _opposite_ of what you're trying to do. :-P Do each edge of the slab first (without touching the joints at all) and then go back and forth over the middle of the slab (so that you reverse direction over the slabs, never over the joints).

I only this year started using a rotary cleaner and I think you should try one less repetitive movement just a slow gental push and pull

I have the same flags, and like you, use the normal lance to clean them rather than the recommended one. What are your thoughts on using a sealer on the flags? You have a lovely home.

After I clean my now BLACK patio I'm tempted to paint it multi-colours, which type or brand of stone paint would you recommend and shoudl it have a protective like varnish coat applied. As far as I know I just have standard patio slabs. Thanks for any advice you can give. Richard.

Depending on the pressure washer, some have plastic internal parts and other metal. If you leave water in it over winter months, the water can freeze then split or break the some of that plastic. Possibly making your pressure washer useless. Once you finished with it, best to turn off the water and run the washer for a short time, ejecting some if not all the remaining water. Don't do it for, to long as it can damage the pump.

Thanks for the video! I jet washed my patio and a few of the joints came up. Nothing too bad but would it be ok to make a little 5:1 mix (the bloke who laid the patio told me he used this) and simply brush it in? I've pointed brickwork up before but I am worried about staining the slabs. We have kandla grey indian sandstone.

cheap tip, wrap your extension in a plastic bag and it stops any bits of spray getting in.

The detergent hose on the pressure washer should be used because it causes the detergent to foam up and clean better, what you shouldn’t do is attach the Lance, just use the trigger/gun on its own and allow the detergent to soak into your patio, then attach the Lance and jet wash it.

Great vid. With a garden and house that large I'm surprised you get to leave with all the work to be done 😂 You've mentioned it in the vid but Do you find that the jet is prone to remove some of the mortar in-between the slabs? I've seen that with using a normal hose with a jet attachment head. Do you also use any soap or cleaner or just spray and go?

I need to do mine but after 3 years nearly all of the polymeric jointing sand in the patio has failed and is coming out. Think I need to rake it all out and grout with something worthwhile. Did you ever do the video about pointing the patio you alluded to in the relaying slabs video?

One thing I noticed was you didn’t unwind all your electric cable. I have seen them melted all together in the past.

Ivy is a nightmare. Next door has green walled *my* fence panels. It looks awful this side, and it traps moisture bowing and rotting them out. I just spray the patio every two years with wet and forget, brightens and keeps weeds down nicely.

I find that when I use my pressure washer I have to wear wellington’s as no matter how I try it seems to splash back and soak my trousers

Never work backwards. Doing so leaves dirt on the path. ALWAYS work forward, doing so continually moves the detritus lifted of the path forward. A better job is the result. Using the lance is many times more efficient than the flat spray head. Particularly when removing moss that is growing in the path. The flat spay is only good to clean, clean areas.

Hi, I have sn old property and the back 'garden' is just a walkway to the door which leads to the backlane. It's all cracked concrete and looks all moudly. How do I know how to clean this without damaging the floor pls. Also can you do a video on how to clean brickwork please

I was told mine were Indian sandstone until rust from the re-bar came through the surface, turns out they are textured pressed concrete 🤣And for those of you on a water meter, like me,it pays to go as fast as possible, although I hear Karcher do a kit that can fit to a water butt ?

I've done this for years, my wife laugh at me watching how to wash the flags,lol. bought a new washer an American one , with a 30m hose so I don't need to move the washer and cable.

Why is it that all jetwash have a lance that is not long enough so you have to crouch a little to use it. Much more tiring. Saves a few pence in manufacture is my best guess

like others have commented I wouldn't introduce ivy anywhere in your garden. we have it in ours and it's destroyed brick walls, fence panels and she'd. it's so hard to get rid of. find other climbing plants but not ivy

I'm surprised you don't use the pressure washer to do the final clean up instead of a standard garden hose. When I hit the Play button it said "No Views"!!!
