Shortly after completing the rebuild of the carb for the pressure washer it became apparent that having left the hose connect to the pump for the last year, with no possible way for water to drain or dry out, a resulting negative outcome occurred. I already had my time invested in the engine, and didn't feel like quitting now, so since it was 10 years old, I figured it was time for a pump rebuild.
Given the water mineral content in Florida, the main issue expected was that of hard mineral deposits on diaphragms and moving parts within the unit; i was not disappointed.
After loosening components while still mounted to the engine, I then remove the pump from the pressure washer, and make this a pump only affair until the end of the project. This in turn splits into two halves, having no issue with the piston side, its cleaned up and put off to the side until the end.
The valves can not be conventionally removed, I use a special procedure to do so as described in the video. Check valves needed much work as they were completely frozen shut. All components are cleaned and inspected, the bore of the unit is cleaned with a drill and a .50 cal brass brush.
With Remoil and 327, the chick valves are reinstalled into the unit. All other pieces are then assembled by hand. 327 is used on all rubber parts.
The two halves are then brought together and retightened. I take this opportunity to do an oil change on the pump. The pimp is then reconnected to the pressure washer motor.
With that, a test run is conducted on a section of the sidewalk showing restored optimum performance.

Just want to thank you for for making this. I was on the verge of ordering a new pump. After seeing your video I took my pump apart and cleaned out whatever I could get at and reassembled it not expecting much. Much to my amazement it’s running like new again. There was a lot of mineral buildup in there looks like I’ll have to drain it after each use and maybe run some vinegar through it periodically to try to dissolve the buildup. Also my ez start valve was completely seized up. Had quite a time freeing that up. Thanks again you’ve earned a new subscription 👍

So first off I want to say thank you so much for doing this video/tutorial. I have been attempting to find one that had this much detail, as I find myself attempting to save my pressure washer (inherited it from my father who passed away recently & seems my ex did some damage to it without my knowledge, so now I am attempting to avoid buying a new pump as that can be pricey) I have purchased all new check valves and the white plastic rings as well as the rubber seals that go on the head of the pump( the old valves & parts were melted or damaged in a way that seems to be melted) I had NO pressure on the water exiting the pump when the pressure washer was running, prompting me to disassemble the pump to find the damaged parts, I have since installed the new parts and cleaned up the pump, but now it seems there is less water exiting then before, I wasn't aware of the function of the unloader valve but now that I have seen your video I feel if I remove the pump once again, this time attempting to remove and clean that valve I may have a better chance at success with it working. I am new to all of this but as a single mother & determined to figure things out I will learn all I can to be successful at being a DIYer. I will be purchasing all of the grease & polish you mentioned to reassemble everything again and attempting the unloader valve as well, do you have any suggestions as to what my problem may be for why I have no water exiting the pump when running aside from what I have mentioned above? I'm just hoping to troubleshoot my situation with a successful outcome. I greatly appreciate any and all feedback. Again thanks for this awesome video!

Hello, Its hard to say unless the video was completely followed, something is still stuck causing an obstruction. Taking it out and revisiting all steps, checking all passages for an obstruction or seized part.

Thanks for giving me some insight! While I don’t have a gas unit like this, I have several friends and family who have given me their pumps to take a look at for repair. For the time it’s going to take me to do this, the $99 special and line prefilters will help more than me charging them even $10 an hour….

After tear down…. Should you be able to blow air through the discharge side? Meaning, I tried to blow air with my mouth where the wand hose connects and I can’t pass any air. Is that normal? I assume there is a check I am blowing against? Thanks

Just the video I've been looking for. I've searched for two days for this info. Now all I need to know is if this model can be bypassed and if so how. So it won't overheat when I let off the trigger. I know this video is 5 yrs old but if anyone can help chim in.

Thanks for posting this. I think my pump may be causing the engine to stall, but not sure. Engine runs great with the pump detached. As soon as I re-attach the pump, start the engine, and pull the trigger... the engine stalls. I'm thinking maybe the pump is starting to seize and it's causing too much strain on the engine and stalls it.

Hi, what a great job with your time and patience in your instruction.I am a little confused as you stated one of the valves you had to hit with the rubber mallet to get it to move. I thought the movement came from the steel bearing and the spring. it seems the valve on the inside is brass and does not move. or are you saying it does?
@retrotechandelectronics
@retrotechandelectronics 4 жыл бұрын
It should deflect in normal operation. It was initially frozen in position.
@timwalker2856
@timwalker2856 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. So this deflects without the spring and ball in place? I have done everything to my pressure washer and it will not pump water. could this be my problem?Tim

I inherited a fairly new Simpson 3Kpsi pump that has no pressure (Honda 190). Where did you get the parts? Is there a kit? I suspect it wasn't cared for properly. Replaced the carburetor $25. Don't forget to use Sta-bill in the gas!!

Great video, bud. Can you (or anyone else watching) tell me .....when you say "calc"....is it safe to assume you mean "calcium"? And if the answer is yes, wouldn't straight white vinegar do a good job of dissolving all or most of the "hard mineral deposits"? Call me cheap (most of my friends and family DO); I'm just looking for an easy, 'accessible', solution to cleaning the guts of my pump. Question 2: Does having run my pump without a water supply connected for a minute or two likely to have trashed it beyond the scope of your video? Thanks for any info.
@retrotechandelectronics
@retrotechandelectronics 3 жыл бұрын
Correct, calc as in calcium or other mineral deposits. Try the pump, if it still works its not trashed. 1 or 2 min, probably ok.
