UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust kzfaq.infoUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

THANK YOU SIR!!! This has to be the BEST video I've found so far!!! You gave me a better understanding of what each part's function is along w/ what causes different failures! I've got a General Pump T1011 that lost pressure shortly after I effed up. Shut off motor & water to move washer, then fired it up & idled for a few minutes while I did a few things then wound it up to start washing. Gun was probably 50 ft away & when I pulled trigger got nothing...my dumb ass never turned water valve back on! Anywhooters, got it back on ASAP & it worked fine for a bit but after idling again to move a vehicle it decided it wasn't feeling it any more & said "EFF U DUDE I QUIT"! 😁 I'm not afraid to tear into it but been struggling to find accurate teardowns that match mine exactly...pump & unloader (K5) & until now I hadn't even gotten a thorough video explanation so I could diag it & fix it myself w/ minimal cost. I inherited it from my 90 yr old G'pa last year cuz he decided he was gettin tired & it's a good money maker as long as I'm not starting the season going too far in debt!!! So thanks again for sharing knowledge & explaining HOW components works & not just acting like I know everything you do. If I did I wouldn't be here! Thanks again! YOU TAUGHT ME TO FISH & DIDN'T JUST FEED ME FISH FOR SUPPER! 👍 And YES, I'm bored & can BS forever. Hope you enjoyed my novel...✌ P.S. Subbed & checked you're info & found something cool. You joined March 26th 2010 & that was a BIG day for me...because at 6:15 & 6:16 PM My twin 👶boys👶 joined the world!!! I'll take that as the vibe that led me your way & why I was moved enough to write a novel in response to your video! Leland & Landon by the way...and they're pricy cuz, TWO TIMES TWO TIMES, so fix washer-make the doughnuts-blow money on boys!!!

he makes a lot of good points here but in any case of something not working the way it should, always think simple before you get into complicated repairs. I have the exact same Honda motor and pump (Comet Pump). Suddenly no water was making it to the wand where it quick connects to the pump..so , I undid the quick connect from the pump body and low and behold, a piece of rubber had broken away from one of the seals and was completely blocking the exit hole to the hose coupling . Once I cleared the obstructing, good as new

You mentioned that the pressure washers that are sold at Home Depot or Loews it doesn’t pay to repair,but the thing is it’s actually the unloader valve itself that’s an easy fix.Many people are being sold an entire pump assembly when they only needed to clean and oil the unloader valve.This is when you pull the trigger and kicks off after just 3 seconds.This is a common issue many are having.Thank you for sharing your tips and advice.
@Brian_the_repair_guy3 жыл бұрын
This depends entirely on the type of pump. Many of the pumps used on the mass produced pumps used on the Lowes and Home Depot machines are not repairable. Access to certain parts are not available. There is no need to oil the unloader. In fact they are not oiled from the factory. The only lube is on the spring and that is a very light coating of grease. It never needs to be greased again. If by chance the grease is flushed away, you need a new unloader. Many of the unloader are built on to the pumps used on the machines from box stores, which means you buy a new pump.

Fantastic video. You translated giberish to basic English. By far the best video on a pump breakdown. I have a question... Honda gx390 with a CAT 66DX40G1. One of my techs called me and said the engine blew a rod or something because there's a hold in the engine and chunks of the engine flew out. No injuries thankfully. I know that low or no oil can usually cause this so I just purchased another gx390 and am currently swapping it out with the blown engine. I decided to clean the shaft, key, and after coming across your video decided to clean a little more. Something I noticed when cleaning the shaft and key slot....pieces of greasy grass were lodged in there so I was able to clear out what I could see. A couple months ago, this pwasher tipped over while a tech was washing a long walkway. He turned it back up right, white smoke everywhere, small grass fire extinguished. Engine would not restart. Took it to the warehouse, changed all the fluids and spark plug and got it up running again. Then the blown engine incident happened. Is it possible that grass got logged into the pump during the tip over? Is this possibly what blew the engine because the dip stick showed some oil on it when I checked it. I can't see well enough inside the hole that got blown open to see if any oil was in there. This is an older model CAT pump and I'm having trouble removing a few of the tork bolts that hold the head in place, they keep stripping so I found it best to Stop. I'm eager to go ahead and install the pump to the new engine BUT am hesitant to do so in case I didn't get all of the grass out. I've used an air compressor to blow air through all openings (water supply, shaft,unloader, etc. Your thoughts about me moving forward without certainty that all of the grass has been removed (assuming that may have lead to the blown engine). Thank you in advance. We have a 9 - 4 story condo project to start in 6 hours (7:30am CST) and believe it or not the 4gpm wheeled units work better than our 10gpm trailer and flatbed units since we are able to just load the 4000/4 into the 60' man lift basket. This is Phase 2 of the project so we've already been through all the "do it this way" methods. Lol. KtPowerWashing.com

I am having a hard ti.e trying to come up with a scenerio that would cause the engine to "blow" based on the pump that is working as it should. Nothing you have pointed out about the pump leads me in that direction. Tipping the machine over while running could definitely lead to this. Depending on length of time on its side, how much oil dumped in the cylinder while it was running and a couple other factors. When you remove the pump, you should be able to spin the shaft on the pump by hand with a bit of force. Do this a few times to see if you can get a fee full rotations with no restrictions. If you can, the pump is most likely not an issue. I feel the tip over is the culprit. As for the grass, if the grass is IN the pump, use a water filter at the inlet. If the grass is on the shaft, no real concerns.

I just opened a small business with pressure washing. I watch a lot of videos every day in the evening about different things. Most videos are basically all the same. You broke that unloaded valve down to a science. Thanks for your help. I’ve been wondering if I should turn it to get -/+ pressure. But now I no. I also just ordered a pressure gauge, hose swivel , oil cut off & kill switch spark plugs and air filters. I’m gonna order a new pump cause I’ve had the same pump for 8 years. So was wondering if you will do a video on pump replacement. Thanks for taking time out to help people like me.

Great video and very informative. I cannibalized parts from different units. I added a pump from a unit where the motor went bad and added the pump to a Honda motor from another unit where the pump went bad. Now when I let go of the trigger, the unit cuts off immediately. I took the unloader valve out and the piston moves freely. The set nut was spinning freely and not depressed against the larger nut that holds the spring in place. The unit hops and skips more than I recall also. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for this instructional video.

Great video! Two questions. 1. I'm shopping for a 4 GPM 4000 PSI washer. Pump options are AR, Cat, GP, and HP. Which to you recommend for long life and rebuildability? 2. I've read that using pump saver after every use extends the life of the unit. What's your opinion on using light machine oil or something to that effect instead of the product in a can?
@Brian_the_repair_guy3 жыл бұрын
I prefer the General pump. Overall I see the longest life, less problems with General pumps. The parts and pump cost a bit more, but I feel it is far better. Long life will come with service, do not allow the pump to freeze, and do not allow the pump to run for more than a couple minutes without water flowing from the gun. When you let the machine run with out pulling the trigger for more than 2 minutes will allow the water to over heat. You do not want that. As far as the oils, use the manufacturers recommended oils.

*I just bought a Mi-T-M 3000 psi 3 gpm pump for my honda gc190 and I was told by someone to add a bypass hose on unloader to help with off trigger over heating. Would you say this is critical for me to do to make the pump last longer? The pump has 2 plugs where the hose would go so looks pretty simple to do, remove the 2 plugs and replace them with two 3/8 barbs and a foot or so of 3/8 hose. Thanks in advance.*
@Brian_the_repair_guy3 жыл бұрын
The bypass hose would attach to the unloader of the machine. The 2 plugs you mention are more likely to allow the unloader to be installed on either side of the pump, depending on the design of the machine. If you were to install a hose there, it must be high pressure, but I do not recommend this at all. There would be no added benefit. Due to the function of the unloader, an external hose on the unloader does aid in cooling. Cooling is only a concern when the machine is left to run without pulling the trigger for more than a minute or two. Simple solution to this, if you are going to put the gun down, turn off the machine. If you are not going to pull the trigger in the next 2 minutes, turn off the machine. If you are waiting on the chemicals to work, just pull the trigger momentarily.

Brian: Thank you for a great video. My pressure washer has the pressure gauge on the top of the head above the thermal valve (engine side). Do you think this is a poor place or should it be in line before hose? My pressure washer went from (Had unloader turned down to 2000#) turned it off to fix inlet water leak, started back up and only 150# of pressure. I tore it down to investigate and believe or not the ceramic pistons did show wear in about the same place on all three (AR pump). You are right it gets expensive quick beyond the seals, (Got milky oil) so I am going to buy a new pump and recycle the old one. It will have ceramic pistons for sure (Mine lasted 20+ years).

Brian, thanks for the video. I bought a pressure washer on a garage sale a few years back. Worked fine at the time, but now when I squeeze the handle I get good pressure for a split second and then lose it. Any ideas? I am not sure of the make or model of the power washer because all of the tags are gone, including the small sticker on the frame. I can see it said "Tahoe" but I can't see anything else. It looks identical to the pump/brass part in your video. How do I know what to search for when trying to find replacement parts? Thanks!
@Brian_the_repair_guy2 жыл бұрын
Look for my video on pressure washer pump replacement. I believe your problem is the unloader. What you are experiencing is typical of a failed unloader. In the video I mentioned, it tells you how to remove the unloader and replace it along with how to set the new unloader. Most unloaders are bolt on banjo unloaders. But there are 2 types. One is an over under on the bolts meaning the bolts line up. Then there is an offset style where the bolt bolt sets back and is not directly under the upper bolt.

I have a 4 gpm with a general pump ez4040g pump. The other day I lost pressure. I took the unloader off and it seemed to be sticking. I cleaned it up and oiled it and it seems fine now. Do you think I should order a new unloader or is this a common problem? Thanks
@Brian_the_repair_guy3 жыл бұрын
Sudden loss of pressure typically occurs when a piece of small trash get is the system. The Valves and the unloader will both be affected by the smallest foriegn object. Usually the piece will pass. If you have a thermal valve, keep an eye on it. If you begin to see water leaking from the thermal valve, then prepare to replace the unloader.

Just ran into your channel, thanks for the video, I bought new 4gpm 4400 psi pressure washer that has a built in unloader valve, I just realize that I should get one that I could run a hose to my buffer tank to avoid damaging it when I’m not squeezing the trigger on the gun. What is my best option other than getting different pw to achieve that. Thanks again.
@Brian_the_repair_guy2 жыл бұрын
If your unloader is not a bolt on style, then I am not sure how to go about setting it up for the water to flow back to your tank from the unloader as it dumps. You could replace just the pump to the proper pump.

Hey Brian. Nice video. If you are still following, I have a leak on a unit I just bought used at the top bolt of the unloader. Bottom bolt looks good. Do I just back both bolts out to detach from the head? Is there a O-ring in there to replace or something?
@Brian_the_repair_guy Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is an O ring in there. Before you loosen the bolt, try to snug the bolt. Not too hard, just a bit to see of that helps. If not remove it and replace O ring

Washer working then pressure quit, have Annovi REVERBERI rsv3g30 PUMP, no pressure. Took apart to clean /look for debris, flushed with water. Valves very hard to move or remove. (did not take out -options?). Put together still no pressure. Would replace unloader and valves be next step? Removed pump and checked pistons (good). Thanks
@Brian_the_repair_guy2 жыл бұрын
You need a pressure gauge on the pump. If you have high pressure without pulling the trigger, but lose pressure on trigger pull, then the unloader could be the issue. If the pressure shows no high pressure then check valves and packings. You need to pull the valves out. If they are hard to pull out, it could be they are damaged.

Hi Brian Thanks for the video , I have a 4200 psi pressure washer that has a relatively unused pump on it that unfortunately through a lack of oil has broken three crank connecting rods, I have Strip down the pump all ceramic pistons valves and everything all look quite new , It is a Chinese pump so I’m not sure whether this makes a difference would I be able to replace the connecting rods or would I be better to just scrap it and buy a new pump what would be the best option, and if buying a new punp I would prefer to have the same 4200 psi what would you recommend as a flow rate as well
@Brian_the_repair_guy2 жыл бұрын
If your pump was run with no oil, I would scrap it. You will need to replace the crank, bearing and connecting rods. It would cost as much or more than a new pump. AR makes a good cost effective pump. A 3gpm or 3.5gpm would work well and less of an issue with low volume from some water sources

Brian, thats an awesome video, I have a question for you. How does water get into my crankcase from the actual pump? I pulled my oil plug on the honda engine and water shot out of it mixed with oil.
@Brian_the_repair_guy2 жыл бұрын
There is a set of seals that seperate the two areas. When the seal is damaged, the water is allowed to pass to the crank case. Bad seal can come from a damaged piston.

Brian, I rented a MiTM CA-2703-HDKB from Home Depot today. I had a pressure gauge from Northern Tool installed right after the regulator and with the trigger depressed the pressure washer stayed at 1900 psi. When I released the trigger pressure climbed to around 2700 psi, dropped down and then climbed and kept resetting every 10-15 seconds. There was no knob on the regulator. I wonder if Home Depot permanently sets the pressure so people don't chew up their houses. Do MiTM pressure washer allow you to run them to the factory spec? Will a 2700 psi industrial pressure washer run at 2700 psi? I've seen repairs on consumer pressure washers where manufacturers over rate their machines. Do the psi ratings for MiTm pressure washers hold true? For what it's worth, 1900 PSI and the 15 degree tip did an amazing job on my formerly green vinyl siding.
@Brian_the_repair_guy Жыл бұрын
The pressure rating for a washer is labeled based on "no flow" pressures. So when the trigger is not pulled, it will hit the pressure labeled. Once you pull the trigger, you have opened the system with a leak if you will. So no matter the tip size, the pressure will always be less than the set pressure. The tip degree and size will allow the pressure to drop. A zero degree tip at 2.5 will give more pressure than a zero at 4.0. The 15 degree will give more than a 45 degree at the same office size. The up and down in pressure when not triggered is normal. That is the pump unloading and recycling the water. I will say for your machine to be running at 1900 psi on a 2700 psi machine seems pretty low. Typically on a 15 degree you would see a pressure of around 2200 psi. But there is always a margin of error

@Brian_the_repair_guy2 жыл бұрын
If you have a leak of water and oil both, I would consider replacing the pump itself. The cost of parts would be close to the cost of a pump. Just make sure you check the shaft size on your motor to get the correct pump. An AR pump would be a good choice.

Thanks Brian for the video. Excellent. We have a brand new pressure washer 3200 we got at an auction. Half price. Motorworks awesome. Honda motor 200. We are getting a lot of water leakage. The leakage is coming from the pump area in the cylinder. Suspect someone must have left water in it and it froze.. not sure. When we turn the water on the pump leaks around those cylinders you are mentioned. It is a BE 3200 with a Honda 200. Could it be just a gasket? When we turn the water on it leaks pretty bad underneath just beyond the cylinder. We seem to still have decent pressure. Water pressure that is. Just wondering if you had any thoughts on this. Did I mention it is a BE 3200 pressure washer. Looks brand new.

It appears one of the seals may be bad on the pump. Check the oil in the crank to make sure no water is mixing with it. If that is clear, I would suggest a repack on the pump. It will come with all the seals. A kit is pretty inexpensive. The pump itself will have a model number and an manufacturers name. You will need this to order the parts. You can order the parts from most Sherwin William's stores or online at watercannon.com

Great presentation, thank you. I bought a Chinese washer, three cylinder like this one here. It started surging in the pump, not the engine, so I undid the valve caps as you did and number three had brass filings in it. Silly me I didn’t take any pics but instead cleaned it out and restarted it.....no difference obviously. So as it was virtually new I contacted the supplier who told me to remove the pump and return it to be checked by a technician, which I did. He returned it saying the technician checked it and found no fault, so I reinstalled it and started it up again. The surging was still evident, and contacted the supplier again, who declined to help any further. So.....what happened to it, and can it be repaired or should I buy a new pump as you have recommended in this video. If I buy a knew pump are they interchangeable or will I need an adapter plate ? Looking forward to your advise, cheers Steve
@Brian_the_repair_guy2 жыл бұрын
Typically, the less expensive pumps are not worth rebuilding. I can't tell you what is wrong yours, since I can't put my hands on it. But, with brass filings in the pump, I would say replace the pump. AR would be a good choice. If your pumps bolts direct to the engine, then there is typically no adapter plate needed. You just need to know the motor shaft size. Got to watercannon.com for a possible pump
