This technique could be used in a variety of situations. You could run plumbing at a camp house or anywhere that needed running water. The small air compressor I used had a limit cut off, I set it at 60psi although it never got above 30.

I know this is a few years old and hopefully you have your well...But for others who are looking at a similar setup.. The goal is to transfer water quickly. More pressure in a small hose is not the solution, More volume is. Simply replace your garden hose with the largest hose you can find...Open the cap to allow it to vent...The bigger the hose, the quicker it will transfer the water tank to tank...

Great idea and nice vid. Another way would be to use the hose as you were and have a few hoses syphoning through the top hole. Wouldn't use any power and limited resources. keep up the good work mate.

Dude just take the lid off and put a filter. The water escaping the tank is creating vacuum pressure trying to collapse the tank. Install an air filter. The compressor isn't a bad idea but will take a long time to compress the air in that tank unless it's almost full.

Those little compressors are high pressure, low volume so pressurizing that tote (if it's not almost full) is a huge job. Those totes are not built to withstand significant internal pressure. 30 psi is something like a 70 foot water column.

What is taking you so long is your flow rate. Your flow is going to increase if you use a larger hose. If you use a 2" hose it should take you no time at all to drain the tank.

A little info goes a long long way - and so - here's a little info. If you HALVE the ID size of your pipe & add that to the original size (ie use a pipe 150% larger ID) Then - that triples the flow-through rate of the original 100% 1/2" pipe ie: a 1/2 " garden hose is designed to be fed with urban water pressures in the region of 40psi (town supplies) From that tap beside your house supply point - you use a 20M hose and get a nice steady low pressure flow of water out the end (enough to run one or two garden sprinklers with). Use a 3/4" HOSE AT 20m LONG -connected off that same tap - and you'll discover you get THREE times the volume of water - PLUS it's end of pipe pressure will probably be around double that of the 1/2" pipe. Use the 2" outlet sized pipe - that fits the IBC's 2" outlet valve - and that tote should gravity drain very rapidly - but from what WE are (only) allowed to see - is the tote and the last few feet of your (how long is your hose ? As that dribble even with the tote pressurised - looks like you MAY be using a long pipe such as 50M or 100M or more).
@bmjjjja
@bmjjjja 4 жыл бұрын
Can you explain that again? We just bought an IBC tote and are trying to figure out how to get better flow. Are you saying that the 2" drain valve should be connected with a 3" (150%) pipe? And if so, where along the way, do you connect to your hose?
@danbell3827
@danbell3827 3 жыл бұрын
@@bmjjjja A bit late, but he's saying for every 50% increase in hose size, you triple the flow rate. I did the math once for the difference in cross section area between a 3/4" pipe and a 1" pipe. The 1" pipe has double the area of the 3/4". so in theory should flow twice as fast. That's with a 33% increase in size, so a 50% size jump for 200% sounds about right. As for getting a better flow, use the largest hose you can make work, up to the size of the tank valve. Using a 3" hose on a 2" valve isn't going to work any better than a 2" hose, really.

Here is a question that I don't know the answer to: Instead of a valve stem going into the tank, what if your valve stem was still attached to an inner-tube inside the tank, like a bladder inside of a water well pressure tank? Possibly no difference.

We have several water tanks we use on construction sites. Our shop just cut a small hole in the lid, and put a livestock tank heater in the tote with the cord through the lid. Not a perfect seal, but it works. If you wanted a better seal, you could drill a smaller hole the size of the cord, cut the plug off of the heater, and then put a replacement plug on once it was through the lid. Then silicone around the cord, or use a rubber grommet.
@danbell3827
@danbell3827 3 жыл бұрын
You can also get watertight fittings for running wire into weathertight electrical boxes. You could most likely find one of these that would work the same way, pass the cord through it, and then reattach the end of the cord. Something like this www.rona.ca/en/iberville-1-2-in-cord-connector-sl13-04-m1-0320277?viewStore=66550&cm_mmc=organic_search-_-google-_-gmb-_-instore&
