Before you enter the bus check the stairs : make sure they are not worn. Cut. Or frayed. . Check or safety hand rails. Now go into bus! Then check Safety equipment. Fire extinguisher. (10 bc or inspection date) Spare fuses. Three reflective triangles Fluid clean up kit. First aid kit. Now sit in seat. Inspect seat belt. For cuts or frayes. And that it latches properly. Safe start engine: Check Gages Air brake psi. (120) Oil psi.(20-80) Volt meter(12-14) volts. Ammeter should be in normal range. Check horn. Check windshield and wipers Check student safety mirror (above your head) Check the heaters and rear defrosters. Now check student safety lights(dome) Now tell the examiner to assist you in checking your lights. Make sure you signal the examiner what lights you are checking. Turn signals, 4ways. Brights..ambers. Stop arm.. Honk horn!!! Wait till he moves his behind : behind the bus. Check you brakes lights, Turn signals, 4ways. Reds. Reverse lights. And don't forget to check the strobe! Then honk horn. Now you're ready for brake test 1 Parking brake.(engage brake. Put bus in drive and step on gas and it shouldn't move!) Brake test 2 Service brake test. (Disengage the parking brake. Leave bus in drive pull forward step on brake gently, feel for vibration or pulling to one side or the other). Now. It's do or die time. Make sure air pressure is at 120psi before you even think about shutting the bus off.. Now put but in neutral, Turn the key off. Turn key to on position. Next you're going to test your air leakage test.( press foot on brake for one minute. Should not lose 3psi. Next. And make sure that parking brake is disengaged. I've seen people fail this for not pressing it all the way In. Start fanning your brakes. Alarm should sound at 60psi. Continue and the parking brake should engage at 30.- 20 psi. And after it pops. You have no worries. Just start the bus again. And let the psi build up. Then unbuckle your seat belt and check the bottom and back of every seat. Also point out emergency exits. And open a side window. To sound alam. And open back door./ window to sound alarm. After you are done sit back down buckle your seat belt. And info examiner you are done with your pre trip inspection.

Passenger side of bus Inspect the. Passenger safety mirror Gas cap. Gas tank- under check the frame. And rubber seals. No crack , breaks, leaks. Check the baggage compartments. Clearance lights and reflectors. ( don't forget the strobe light) Rear back tire inspection. Exhaust system. Drive shaft. Torque arm. Mounts and springs. Air brake chamber. Air brake hose. Slack adjuster 1 in. Of play. push rod 90 degree angle. Brake drums. And linings. No less the 1/4 Center u-bolt. Air suspension. Cross overs ( frame) Spacers Front and back of tires for (a.b.c) abrasions bulges cuts. Top of tire.( can be recapped) and a tread depth of no less then 23/2 of a in. Rim- no brakes ,illegal welds Air stem. Check with gage or mallet. Lug nuts- no rust or metal shavings. Rear oil hub.- no cracks, brakes. Or leaks. . You should have mentioned this if you want to help people pass

This is the second video on the pre-trip inspection where the tester started inside the bus... makes no sense because you have to check the engine oil with a cold engine -- start out front, then under the hood... seems easiest!

Passenger engine side: Coolant level. Radiator. Fan blades. Alternator.- belt driven.. 1/2-3/4 of play Water pump- belt driven 1/2-3/4 of play. Check your cross overs(frame). Driver side: Power steering reservoir . Power steering pump. Gear driven: Air compressor - gear driven. Check your fluids. Oil and transmission. Steering Column. Steering gear box. Steering linkage (- pitman arm.- drag link, steering knuckle.) The springs and mounts. Air brake chamber. Air brake hose. Slack adjuster- 1 in of play- push rod. 90 degree angle. Brake drums and linings -(1/4) of a in. Front and back of the side walls of the tire. (A.b.c.) abrasions, bulges, cuts. Too tire can't be recapped. And no less of tread depth of 43/2 of an in. Rims. Crack or brakes. Illegal welds. Lug nuts. No rust or metal shavings. Front axel oil hub. No cracks or leaks. And bolts have no sign of rust or metal shavings... You will never pass if you don't inspect the engine.

No air brakes in Canada on our buses. We check the engine first. Few differences. We don't inspect the seatbelt every day. It is understood when you belt in, it should be working and you will know if it isn't right. Also, the lug nuts...you must check the washers on the nuts not just the nut itself.

Don't Bluebird buses have a lamp check button that turn on the lights without having to activate other switches? I know the IC CE's have this button and it makes it more efficient to check all of the lights to make sure they are functioning correctly. Plus using a lamp check would not require a second person to inspect the lights, because drivers would be able to do that themselves.

That was the most half assed pretrip I've ever seen. Who starts from the inside? Her order was all over the place wtf???😂 She didn't identify the lights properly. No backup lights check.

I'm not a bus driver but a trucker. The fist thing you should check is the engine. Then move from there. If the engine is not up to par the rest don't matter. Do you all know why you have to pump the breaks 6 times? You have automatic slack adjusters. Do you crawl under the bus to check and make sure there working right? Things to know. Us truckers know this stuff. The things us trucker have to know will surprise you.

First and last axle 🙄 ? Is there more than the front and rear axle ? Wtf ?

Oh you failed big time. Buckle your seat belt, while testing the air brakes! Also you'd want to start at the front of the bus. Clearance lights. Reflectors. Ambers. Turn signals . 4ways. Head lights. Make sure they are not cracked or broken and they are securely mounted. No missing lens. Then check windshield Wipers. Mirrors Check them for cracks. Brakes illegal stickers. And the are securely mounted. And then check under the bus for leaks. And puddles and debris.

2 DONT check the service brakes TWICE. Your checking that the bus doesn't move when the bus is in gear...Now I'm going to check my service brake to make sure the bus doesn't pull to the left are right...

One you do not pump brakes down that fast two the air is to cut out between 120 psi and 140psi.

Security mounted NOT cracked broken no missing nuts or bolts. The fuel door need to be security mounted. Open and close easily and latches securily....She missed a lot off things.

California Highway Patrol, CHP, is NOT that generous or helpful, CHP officer tester is INSIDE of the bus n watch if U-turn on all that lights, headlights, high n low beams, stuffs n testing of breaks n inside inspection is complete then U go outside. As far as I know, it is clearly redundant n taking additional time that is going against you, a testee, as far as I know, CHP wants U 2 do both sides that are really redundant, then again, how on earth U go against mighty CHP tester, though I would hope one can ask or point out easily but that is "inefficient reality in California school bus testing needlessly taking more time" and I know personally one tester, means lot more, failed JUST because she was over not much time in 30-minutes! What is the MATTER if U do in 35 minutes even NO MORE than 45 minutes show thoroughly, but 30-min is ONLY given BY California CHP mighty tester n that is I think is "unnecessarily maker school bus testing harder than what really should be" cz we are NOT in WAR-ZONE and don't have to be that in RUSH n because of SUCH short time inside n outside all MUST be done in 30 mintues on needlessly on BOTH-SIDES (!!) as, some people do fail, unless that is CHP's unwritten intent to generate failures JUST becuase a bit over 30 minutes, it really has "flaws" in time requirement and DUE TO minful of timeing, some might get nerves, totally EXPECTED FOR SURE, might ended up "screw up" or forget or not done in PERFECTLY done requirement {NO one knows if one testee looks LIKE Clopatra, would CHP demand the same to all others???}, small little things that CHP can pick on you and there is NOT outside independent people are watching, it is ONE OFFICER's discreaton amounts to "dicatarial" tester that CHP lacks "due transparency" and CHP upper echlon is NOT aware of n even if they are one can expect THROW brick wall defense that CHP Is doing 100 percent right in the name of child safety? she will fail in CA, first: in real world no one will give u thumbs up for working lights. U need to get out and demonstrate it to officer, second: cheching one side of the bus is just sounds silly. Good luck on that. Third: you need to group items like: here and there are my amber lights(whatever). Not pointing to every item killing ur time. In CA u have only 37 minutes for inspection including ur air brakes

In California you failed BIG Time missed a lot of stuff and did half the air brake test the emergency exist you must check the alarm and the light on the dash and check out all the paperwork for your state make sure up to date have to open emergency exist from the outside in California you failed
