Positive suggestion. Can you provide a link to the relevant product page on your website in the notes of these videos? Thanks.

If you go on the website and select a product, he will have the corresponding video on the site - assuming he has done a video for it

Isn't it better customer service just to include a link? Why make it a puzzle?

I wasn't debating the merits, just adding additional information.

Kevin - I have naim superuniti hooked up to a nap 250dr amp, b&w 804d3 speakers. Just got into analog with a Rega Planar 6 turntable. Love the naim sound but would love to see if tube system can do better. Would be great to get your advice

Hm, have you tested that amp against monoblocks Lamm ML3 signature....??? If you can say that your amp is better than Lamm than i will buy that...... but there is physical reason why Lamm ML3 cost 120.000$ .... or maybe we all are wrong....

Jasson Burke I’m guessing you’re taking that statement as a negative. Perhaps instead he is simply saying that if a customer has the desire to replace a piece of equipment that they are unhappy with but haven’t because of cost concerns they are happy to see what they can do to take that piece of equipment in on trade to help offset the cost. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Besides he makes entertaining and informative videos. Would you prefer a more sterile approach? Personally I’m glad his videos don’t drone on like an insurance seminar. I see it as a glass half full/half empty thing. 👍🏻

All sounds good, all except one thing. What tubes are in it? We all know that tubes today can be made as good or better as tubes from the 50's and 60's. Problem is they are not. Nobody wants to spend the money on making good tubes. It has nothing to do with gold. It's all to do with hazardous elements. I have a tube amp and it only sounds it's best when I use tubes made by *%#$ before 1960. Hell if I say the brand name, I will never see them again. BTW, they are not Telefunken.

Joe Shmoe the PL I have sound better than my previous more expensive equipment with their stock Shuguang tubes. But when I roll in NOS tubes it makes the thing way way better. As NOS tubes will dry up, it’ll suck, but even with modern tubes, I now will stick with PL because they just do what they are supposed to

This is such a non factor. Almost all new amps come with new tubes, and there are actually some good new tubes. But I personally would go with NOS myself in most cases. If you're spending a few grand on an amp, or amps. What's the big deal with taking your time/money, and finding a deal on some NOS replacements? I buy multiple tubes for all my tube gear anyway. I have an amp, and a preamp that use 2 12au7 (each) in them. I must have like 40 pairs of them at least. I can tune the sound that way. Plus you should always have backups on hand anyway. So buy a couple, or three sets of outputs, and a few sets for the driver/buffer. That way you have spares, in case there's an issue, and you can tailor the sound to your speakers and other gear. Which if you're like many audiophiles. You'll be swapping around fairly often anyway. And if you go to sell it later. It helps the sale. If you buy a tube amp with the intention of just getting the stock tubes, and sticking with them. You're missing out really anyway.

The reason why any mass manufacturer of tube amps use modern tubes is that they can easily replace them. They wouldn’t put NOS tubes in a new modern amp because there is no guarantee that they will be able to replace them. But whatever NOS tubes are available its worth playing with. I used tubed equipment for a long time. Switched to solid state for a decade and a half but in the end tubes gear is what I love. PL gear is outstanding and I am glad a company like this exists.

@@NAVMAN987 There are actually companies that use NOS tubes in their amps still. They find a huge stash of them. Enough to use in the products, and have replacements for warranty purposes, then they can use them. I've seen this quite a lot actually. One company that comes to mind is iFi, with their Retro Stereo 50, which uses EL84 tubes. They also use NOS GE tubes in their iFi iTube/iTube2. There's way more of these out there then many people think, especially the GE ones. See here. ifi-audio.com/what-is-the-el84x-and-how-is-it-different-from-other-el84-tubes/ They are far from the only company though. I'm not saying you see this all the time, but fairly often in high end audio. And even in low budget stuff too. I know you said mass market. I don't know what the exact definition of that is, but iFi sells a crap ton of gear, and are not a small company at all. No Yamaha, that's for sure, but still a pretty big company. The only issue with this is once they run out. It's decision time, and usually they discontinue the product then, but not always. Most companies, like PrimaLuna for instance, use new ones for obvious reasons though, like you mention. It certainly makes life easier, but the reality is. The same thing can happen to them, unless they sign contracts with these tube companies. Which quite frequently stop producing particular tubes for many reasons. It's all the nature of the game.

@HH Scott: I’ll look into that. Thank you for pointing that out. Cheers!
