@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Hey: Trying some aluminum for the first time. Q: On our Primewelds how do you know precisely what freq. and balance we're setting? Is it just a guess based on the start and stop of the knobs? Q: What does it mean when my Aluminum weld is cracked, sometimes the full length? Thanks for your time. -Edward
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 2 жыл бұрын
Yup, the settings on that Primeweld machine are just a "best guess" based on the start and stop of the knob. If your weld cracks try more filler and build up the bead. Also it may be too hot but more filler will help with that as well as give the weld more structure.

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I'm starting a business from nothing. Starting with buying the 225x tig... Then buying the plasma cutter then the mig. I was supposed to be co owner with a guy who had me fabricating and building aluminum gates... He was making 26 million a year. He screwed me out that when I missed with for covid-19 testing. So now I'm going to show him I can do it from absolutely nothing. I thought about making a KZfaq channel "starting a welding/fabricating fence company from nothing" channel. I'm not sure though cause I'm very camera shy. So any way point is I feel I confident that I can start and get a company off the ground and going with using primeweld equipment. That's not meaning I won't have to buy other name brands and other tools... I'm taking about the main equipment I will use to get it up and going strong will be primeweld machines.

It's definitely worth considering I'm sure they are going to go up soon. You may also consider the YesWelder TIG 250P. It's a fantastic machine IMO. It's smaller, lighter smoother arc and a little cheaper. I haven't used my PrimeWeld since I got the YesWelder TIG 250P. I'd sell you my PW 225X but it's so heavy I can't afford to ship it. YesWelder usually runs a 20% OFF special near the end of the year too. yeswelder.com/products/tig250p-acdc?ref=DIYHP10%25&variant=39409208557677

BTW - I would definitely get a fan in your shop to blow the smoke away. I just use a cheap box fan when I work out in my garage and that does the trick for me. @@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 If I knew you were close to me, I have all kinds of stuff I would just give you! I have a full sized, brand new, in box, never opened Miller electric welder. Also numerous fans and other useful things. For a long time, until I lost the most wonderful thing to ever come into my life to cancer, I had a clean-out business. That's where I would do cleaning out of attics, basements, garages, barns, homes, etc. So I would quite often get things that I had the intent to sell later. Well, as my Lady got more and more sick and things just went downhill, things just stayed sitting. So I have just about anything you can imagine. @@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Thank you. Sometimes, especially lately with things as they are, it just seems so hard. I miss her more than words can say. I never used to cry, but now I cry a lot! Oh nuts! Sorry. What I wanted to say was that I'm not going to be doing much at all with this stuff. It'll end up going out in a dumpster can. I'm real serious. I've watched others channels and I just really like your down to earth, friendly way. You are a simple man doing things we all want to do. You do these things in a way that makes us feel good inside. You are humble and real and I even see you give unsolicited shout outs to other channels! Who does that!! So, you are trying to make a go of things on KZfaq. I've got things that would give you years of content! From sea to air and everything in between! It's true and I would really like to help set you up. I'm not lookin to get money from you. I just want to do something that matters. Helping you, I think would make me feel good inside again...some. I've always been able to fix almost anything. I learned very much like you are doing. I feel like I failed my wife because I couldn't fix her. It was very hard trying so hard for almost 2 years of ups and downs and hoping and losing hope. Until she couldn't fight anymore. If I could have just done more. So I just want to do something that would help someone good. Hope I'm making sense. If you could come with a very LARGE U-Haul truck or like that, I promise you would leave with more than you can imagine. Ok, this got way too long! I really do like what you're doing and you seem like a good and decent man. So, thumbs up and good work!

Thanks for the tip! It's actually a pretty dry climate where I live. I was wrong about the moisture being a factor in my 7018 welding rods. I later learned I was using the wrong polarity for that rod. Once I learned that little piece of info, the 7018 rods weld real nice. Well, as nice as I can weld that is. LOL

Thank you for this video. I too am considering this as my TIG box. I agree with the others, wear a welding jacket and do something to keep the fumes away. Personally I use the 3M Half facepiece 7503 with the 3M P100 particulate filter (2097) since that mask will fit under my welding helmet (it's small enough). I also have a fan nearby to boot. That configuration has worked for quite a while; or at least it seems to. Who knows if any of this is causing medical issues down the line. I do the best I can to mitigate that risk and that's all one can do. Or not weld. :D Good luck!

Since you are welding in your garage (it seems), you need to consider two things, but you need to implement one thing immediately: A 3M 7075/6503 respirator with 2297 filters! At your age (no offense), you will not get a lung transplant should you mess them up from breathing in welding fumes. Also, you should be wearing a welding jacket or at least welding sleeves if you do not want to take the chance on skin cancer. UV rays from a welding arc are much more intense than sunlight, as people have gotten "sunburned" by arc light in just a matter of 2-3 minutes if the skin is light enough. The other two things you should consider is either A) Air extraction, or B) Air filtration. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you replace the air by extraction you have to send it outside, but in doing so, you must bring in air from somewhere, so you will be at the mercy of the temperature of the air that is coming in. If you use filtration, you recycle the air so you can maintain the temperature in your garage/shop, but air filters for welding fumes are generally pretty expensive. Which brings me to my 3rd point: Since you have a welder, you should be pretty good already at general fabrication with wood/other materials, so you can also build your own filtration unit with both standard particulate filters AND carbon filters to trap the fumes.

biggest thing for fumes is to keep your face from being right above the weld area.....you can still see at arms length. Personally I ALWAYS weld outside but I am scared of starting a fire.

Holy Hell did the pulse actually work on AC Stick??!! Not sure if that was frequency or pulse but I find it interesting! Thought that would only work on Tig.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 4 жыл бұрын
It wasn't actually on pulse even though it kinda sounded like it. I think it was just low frequency I had it set on. I may have to give that a try the next time I set up to stick with it. Actually now you have me very curious about it and I'm going to have to try it soon just to find out. If it works, I'll make a video of it.

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 it very well could have been frequency. Pretty darn cool.

I just checked it out and the pulse does not work in stick mode but the frequency does. Fully adjustable from 40Hz to 200Hz. It is pretty neat and the sound is really cool. When I had it set to 200Hz the ark pretty much just starts it's self when the tip of the electrode is right above the work piece. Didn't even have to scratch it. AMAZING! I don't know what affect it has on the weld but it was cool. I'll have to play around with it a bit to see how it affects the weld. For some reason it seemed real easy to run a bead with it on 200Hz but that could be my imagination. Ha Ha Thanks for bringing that to my attention and have a good night! 😀👍

I just made an extractor from an old furnace blower. Built a box mounted it on the outside of my garage put a hole through the wall bought a piece of 4” hose from a local industrial supply house. Three speed fan switch. Works perfect. You have to be careful not to blow your shielding gas away fans can do that and they only blow the smoke somewhere else in the room. My garage is small I used to fill it up with smoke. I get my welder on Wednesday!

Two things, it's much easier to push air than it is to pull it, plus if for some reason you need to filter that incoming air (paint booth), pushing air makes filtering it much much easier. This is really more of a temporary paint booth thing, but still food for thought.
