This video is about making a Yucca bow string that is strong and abrasion resistant by twisting in sinew at both ends of the bow string, Hence the Hybrid string.

Man that's impressive...never thought a vegetable fiber bowstring would last that many shots. And that bow is really throwing those arrows with a lot of force! Awesome Thad!! 😎💥💪💪

This was a good topic! Never had a plant fiber string break outright, but it’s because I replace them as soon as they look worn at the nocking point. Never thought to serve it with sinew! Should certainly help extend the lifespan.

I think I could make one to work with out sinew but the thought of the hybrid has crossed my brain so many times I had to try it. My original thought was on making a cane string with sinew or gut loops. But that will be later. What types of fiber have you used successfully. I have been trying to grow some native Blue Lewis flax but it's not doing that well. It does grow over most areas west of the Mississippi. What I planted is still growing but not so good. I am a long long way from a bowstring out of it.

@@BeckumOutdoors I’ve used yucca, nettle, dogbane and commercial hemp. Nothing out of the ordinary to note about them. It’s been a couple years since I’ve done one, but I recall them all being fairly comparable in effort to process. The more care taken during processing, the better the string.

I’ve got a yucca bow string hanging right now with about 50 pounds on it, mine had a lot more green still on it, next time, I will take the time to do it like you did I think that would be better, but so far so good. Another great video. Thank you for Thad And I hope you keep them coming

Your string must hold about 4 times the weight of the bow. Best I remember.

Yes sir I generally don’t but thanks for the affirmation next time I have an idea it’s like that I’m just gonna run with it and see what happens if it works maybe I’ll share it with the world. Yea, I saw the squirrel warrior on KZfaq using flint tipped darts, but with a modern blow tube.

I was just thinking of using plant fiber with sinew because sin use a valuable resource in as much as I love using it for strings I like using it for other stuff more so I thought why not stretch it out by adding plant fibers and I’m gonna have to do on myself

Dang it Mr.Thad I thought of that a month ago and I was going to ask about it and post something about it but I thought that stupid they’ll tell me that stupid or whatever so I didn’t say nothing or do it good work brother I knew it was possible experimental or not it’ll workI promise you it’ll work long as you twisted your cartilage right shouldn’t matter what you twist together right? I mean anything is possible if you think about it
