This was more of an album cut for him...well before he became a pop star...but the song blew up on the R&B scene as a single for another artist who covered it later....Me'lissa Morgan...you should check her version too...not quite as raunchy...a little more radio friendly.

Not sure whom he was writing this song about but he possibly was inspired to write this by Susan Moonsie (high school girlfriend, later a member of Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6), or Denise Mathews, AKA Vanity of Vanity 6 whom he dated for four years up until about 1983/1984. Prince had him a lot women in his time. He was such a lil' mack daddy. Every woman was looking at him like he was a serious snack. Though he wrote a lot of songs about being lonely too and could get very, VERY focused on writing, composing and recording so many songs; and touring damn near every year. So he had a lot of girlfriends--overlapping gfs by more than a few accounts---but maybe not quite the legion of women that the public perception had entertained of him. Other amazing Prince slow jams you might consider reacting to: "Adore", "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", "Diamonds and Pearls", "Insatiable" (my favorite of his ballads), "Damn U", and "Scandalous".
