There’s a fair distance between Sandringham and Windsor where they each lived, respectively, and the Countess of Mountbatten (Penny Knatchbull) lived at Sandringham too, and attended his funeral, even tho’ it was in lockdown and only the closest were allowed. That was at his request of course. So I think separation came a bit earlier than death. The Windsors are very good at this illusion. People believe it.

@@noone-bp1eu That’s how the English aristocracy do it. They have affairs but keep the marriage story going. Philip was unfaithful in the first decade or so with lots of women, but in the last few decades he had one woman who drove carriages with him and lived at Sandringham, whereas HM the Queen is always at Windsor. His mistress was at his funeral when very few people could be because of COVID. She is Penelope Knatchbull Countess of Mountbatten. Couples that are close and loving don’t live apart.

Reality is always a little uglier that we like to believe in the good of things even if they aren't true. The catch 22 is that if we base our focus on a fabrication instead of truth, we're drowned in the same negativity we try to avoid by looking to the prettier things.

Their story is remarkable. How they each fit so well in the other’s life (Philip looking to be a part of something stable/build a family, Elizabeth looking for that unicorn of a man who could support her different roles and public leadership) but still had to make personal adjustments and sacrifices for the sake of duty. Goes to show that everyone, even a Queen and her Prince, have to navigate major changes in life. Everyone has their cross to bear. I feel like Philip made her responsibilities bearable. There’s so many actual clips of him making her giggle when she’s nervous or appears tired. I’m so glad they had each other for all those years. Separated for only a short time. She promised him that she would go on living and she did. But now together again. God bless them.

Royal couples in history have always fascinated me. They’re seen as fairytale. They have this ‘properness’ about them, yet obvious love and have normalcy that any relationship goes through, yet is often hidden coz monarchy are to be mysterious and above the messiness of healthy or toxic human interaction. Of course behind closed doors as normal, they row, they are passionate, they are ugly and beautiful, have humour, have children not just for heirs, go through rough patches, and especially in situations where the woman is higher in power, compromise and acceptance/rebellion of one’s place. God rest Prince Philip.
@timefliesaway999
@timefliesaway999 Жыл бұрын
Hm, not really. They keep the “beautiful fairy tale love story” to the public, but privately they’re mostly unfaithful. It was normal for the king to have multiple women and for the couple to live apart for years. The marriage is for show and to have children with a “bloodline blessed by god”, but other than that... nope it’s not a fairy tale.

Geez, imagine his opposition, the Queen probably wouldn't have insisted. What of their sons' and grandsons' royal weddings?? He challenged her all the time, even before they got married, and that was one of the reasons she chose him even that Queen Mary, King George VI, and The Queen Mother did not like him and prefered a richier man for the future Queen. One of the ways he challenged her was everytime he kissed her around other people: even that there were only the employs around then she prefered that he kissed her when they were totally alone, but he kissed her when he wanted no matter how many people were around then. All the other rich men her family wanted for her would never kiss her around other people and for sure they made her feel bored and that is why she married him.

Different circumstances. Elizabeth picked Philip herself, having known him since she was 13 and Philip was exposed to the royal life so he knew what to expect. There was also only a five year age gap. Diana was picked by advisors, was a totally different person to Charles, had a huge age gap, had no experience with the royal life and married after a quick courtship. William and Kate also knew each other for a very long time, allowing them to determine they are compatible and for Kate to understand what she was getting into. Plus they have common interests. Something like 1 in 3 marriages in the West ends in divorce so it would be really unusual if none of the royals got divorced.

The scene at 5.07 captures their relationship perfectly. The Queen was a naturally shy person who would have found all of the attention difficult to cope with if it hadn’t been for Philip’s calm strength and support.

I can’t stop crying about her death. I live her in Ohio across the pond and my heart aches. She wasn’t just her majesty the queen, but to all of us she was like our grandmother. They are 3rd cousins, born a continent apart. Their last common ancestor died 120 years ago. 3rd cousins share less than 1% DNA and usually do not even know of each other's existence. Genetically speaking, they're strangers. It's not weird. If you happen to live in a small town, chances are you're "literally related" to a great many of your neighbors as well.

She should have known from the start charles heart was always somewhere else. But after 2005 the more the queen got to know camilla and even at some point bonded with her with the love for horses and dogs. She warmed up to camilla. I know that elizabeth was lot more open to accepting camilla into the royal family after seeing how supportive she is towards charles and the great interest she took when elizabeht coulnt make it and asked camilla if she could attend on her behalf and camilla would then speak on behalf of the queen her mother in law. And when her final days came she was sick and could t attend many events she was glad that charles and camilla stepping up on behalf of her thats why she changed the will and mentioned it is my greatest honour when my son becomes king that camilla shall be known as queen consort. So i say that royal fmaiky are humans and i will treat them like humans. But skmethk g that disgusts me of most people behaviour and attitude, is back in the 1990s when the camillacharles affair came out how reporters with cameras stood outside camillas home she couldnt go shopoing woth leople throwing things at her. Why would people do that. Whatelse was mostly disturbing to research was in 2010 charles and camilla were already marrie off in 2005, in 2010 they were at this event and then when they were in the car a huge crowd of protestors came and attacked the car. Sadly the metroplaion police officers were injured by protecting the car. Its sad and disgusting to see that people just love to hate and dislike others for what they done and think charles and camilla got away with it no they didnt that they commited adultery was already exposed in the 1990s. The car accident was an accident. People also love making up thjngs to make it sojnd more dramatic
