I may be wrong but I don't think there is a set in stone type studio version of this song other than the movie soundtrack but that even has the live stage sound.....If there isn't a studio version that to me is just another brilliant move by Prince!
@martinweiss316811 ай бұрын
Yes, there isn't a standard studio version and the "official" version is a live recording, although with edits and overdubs - somebody took the pleasure of annotating it for us here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNiSibl1pt-uYas.html. Then there are rehearsals, the most beautiful of which may be the Take #3 here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kM2IdLl2kru5ZYk.html.

To see my former friend, John Blackwell, behind the drums…fulfilling his lifelong goal of being a world touring drummer with a A1 band… it breaks my heart…to know that John AND prince are no longer with us… when I was at school ( Berklee school of music, Boston, Massachusetts)) I used to sit directly next to John…he was on scholarship from Columbia, sc…to see him fulfill his musical dreams with prince is why I’ll play music til the day that I die…may John and prince rest in peace . I hope that his daughter Jia , is getting all the love and support that she needs and deserves…unbelievable purple rain rendition. Peace.

@@kevineden4028 Had a listen to some of his other stuff, and that is much better than this. But certainly not the best music I have ever heard - in my own opinion. I'm always amazed that people so often claim that Prince wasn't appreciated while he was alive. That is not true at all. He sold over 100 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He won seven Grammy Awards, seven Brit Awards, six American Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe. Also, the Grammy President's Merit Award, the American Music Award for Achievement and of Merit, and the Billboard Icon Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the UK Music Hall of Fame, and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, and was inducted twice into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. Spin Magazine named him the greatest frontman of all time. Rolling Stone ranked him 27th on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. His 2007 Superbowl performance is ranked the greatest Super Bowl performances ever. When he died President Obama mourned him, and the US Senate passed a resolution praising his achievements. Cities across the U.S. held tributes and vigils, and lit buildings, bridges, and other structures in purple. In the first five hours after the media reported his death, "Prince" was the top trending term on Twitter, and Facebook had 61 million Prince-related interactions. MTV interrupted its programming to air a marathon of Prince music videos and Purple Rain. Screenings of Purple Rain were theaters across the country. Saturday Night Live aired an episode in his honor. He was more recognized and praised than almost any other musician. What more could be said?

@@stevenboozer6699 Yes. I have. Not only do i know about JH and heard about him, i've lived it, was in it. I was a young teen way back, in the way back. My oldest brother, was very much influenced by Jim'is talent, skills, and strived to play like Jimi. Alas, it never came to fruition. Such is life. After "constantly listening" to Prince for a whole week, i've come to "MY" conclusion and say what i said. I stand on it

Seeing Prince and John Blackwell in frame together in this video several times is just a gut punch. Miss both of these legends so much!

I went to school at Berklee, school of music, Boston. I consider John Blackwell as the best drummer who ever lived. I’ve seen buddy rich play, when I was young…John was stronger. I credit John as the best drummer who ever lived. I sat next to him in a class called “ Ear training “… I always knew , in my soul, he was going to reach the big stage… and I was right…rip…John Blackwell, and prince…

I would give a kidney to see two songs performed live: Purple Rain Comfortably Numb Every single live performance of these 2 songs is a unique journey. Different details, buildup, guitar solo etc. Amazing. Brilliant rendition by the way. One of the best here on KZfaq.
