On board credit for Military and Veterans! Princess offers an on board credit for members of the US and UK military and veterans. I am a US Navy retiree and my husband is a UK Army retiree so we both received onboard credit. I think they may also offer it to Canadian military as well, not sure about Australia and New Zeland. For US military they want a copy of your dd214. We booked a 14 day cruise and got a $250.00 dollar credit per veteran. Doubly nice the next cruise we booked we automatically got the on board credit.

Yes, they do give Australian military personnel military credit. Current, Ex., as well as reserve. I'm ex Army reserve and my dad is ex Army and we BOTH receive onboard credit.

Hi Gary. In terms of dress code, it has been my experience (15 Princess Cruises) that formal attire is not applicable in the buffet. I am not sure about the specialty restaurants as I avoid them on formal nights but is certainly applicable in the main dining rooms. I am not a jacket/tie/tux person when on vaca so I always head up to the buffet on formal nights in my shorts and a tee and it's perfectly fine.

We were on a Dawn Princess 42 day Asian cruise (March/April 2017, out of Sydney) and the average passenger age was 64. There was one child who belonged to the ships doctor. Bliss!

US cruisers, definitely bring an adapter so you can plug into the 220 ports for CPAPS and a cruise approved power strip (NOT A Surge Protector) for your other devices.

Gary: I once worked through a travel agency only employment agency with Princess Cruises. It was the best job I had. I worked as a crew travel agent. My responsibility was to arrange the crew's travel to/from the ship and sometimes ship to ship. It was a labour of love.

Hi Gary - Thanks so much for sharing all of knowledge about cruising with us. With regard to Princess' excursions, I went to book a Pearl Harbor excursion on line prior to our February round trip from San Francisco. Sometime between November of last year and now, Princess has changed their excursion reservation process. Now, one must pay up front for excursions (as well as the spa) before a reservation can be made. We always have had some sort of on board credits that I would use to pay for these things - using the house money, so to speak. No way am I going to pay up front for these things. Thanks for letting me vent!

I’m surprised more people don’t point out the excellent photo packet on Princess. I paid $200 per cabin and Princess took many pictures each night and disembarkings, sail always, and many more like formal night. They supplies all 8x10s but also a thumbdrive of all digital pics. Love your vids. Love Princess. My favorite line.

I also own shares of carnival stock. I bought it at $55 a share and it plummeted to $7.50 a share during the pandemic!!!!!! So Obviously I hope that the stock rallies as the pandemic comes to an end.

Absolutely agree with you! Despite having a wonderful Princess cruise to the Mediterranean with my mother in August I wouldn't choose to go at that time again. Definitely the right time for families and multigeneration groups but too busy for me.

When in August? I'm scheduled for Greece on Royal Caribbean porting out Labor Day weekend. Princess has set a high bar for me though, I have to admit starting with Princess was probably a mistake lol. Hopefully my next Carnival cruise over leap-year on Panorama is better than my last ship experience with them on Pride; Pride was most certainly NOT a ship to be proud of last December.

@@717dash_cam Labor Day weekend should have far less family groups. Just think when school is in session=less families. While there will always be children on any cruise(think homeschool and parents that pull kids for holiday time)the numbers are far less than say peak summertime. Even when I bring mine with me, I prefer the lower numbers as they don’t like being turned away at the kids camp because the numbers are filled for that time. 200 kids is say Sept while 800 or even more is July. You should have a lovely time with Royal in Greece on a September holiday. Royal does a fabulous job in the Med.

Great tips, Gary. Have 2 cruises booked on Princess for 2020. Regarding our 48 day cruise around South America on Coral Princess poses some questions: How many formal nights and do they rent tuxes? Not a lot of room for formal wear when you are packing for 7 weeks! Any suggestions? Keep up the great videos. I am always learning something.

Owning Carnival Stock, I'm much more likely to choose Princess as an alternative to HAL. Having the American Express Platinum also weighs in, since RCCL and Celebrity don't allow for combining of perks.

Princess now matches. My cruise jan 20. I found one cheaper on Viatour and they matched. The time was better and group smaller do the food and wine tour was better with Primcess

We've found that Princess is the line that best matches our style. Very predictable and good service. No "amusement park" on board really sets the tone. As a s side note, did I see Ben and David at 3:56? I enjoy their videos as much as yours.

Just returned from an eight day cruise (Dec 2019) (Sydney - Tasmania - Sydney) on the Princess Majestic. It was fantastic. Dress code was not a problem. I cannot speak more highly of this organisation. Everything was perfect. Everything was very well organised. Fantastic cruise.

Hey Gary.... I cannot find cabin P259, from your video, on the Sky Princess deck plan. (The passengers are videoed entering that cabin at minute .040) Is it a crew cabin? Or is it on another ship?

2022 and I just got back from the Discovery Princess trip to the Mexican Riviera. The dining has changed with the "Dine My Way" plan which does away with the set time and table. You make a reservations at the two main restaurants. Dress code even on Formal Night was simply long slacks/jeans and collared shirt. I wore a new pair of black jeans all week and on formal night I had a new white dress shirt and a tie. No jacket. As someone who doesn't drink alcohol or only occasional sodas (cold tea mostly) I wish they had one of the modern Coke Freestyle machines. Soda only available at a bar or by request to a server.

Hi Gary, I am on Sky Princess in September for one of the UK Seacations (oh how I can't wait!) just wanted to mention Princess Plus. This is a package that includes Premium Drinks, WiFi (for 1 device) and Gratuities. The cost has just been reduced to £30 per day here in UK. You have to select this at the time of booking but literally turns the cruise into an All Inclusive. I would normally really think hard about whether a drinks package is worth it depending on factors such as number of port days etc. but if you take off the gratuities of £11.50 per day that makes the package just £19.50. Even a moderate drinker would likely spend more than this per day (don't forget it includes soft drinks, speciality coffees etc too) so I would say choose this package when you book to make a saving!

@jobigman2008I hardly know how to respond to your ignorant comment. Most members of the military never see combat. Those who do, respond to attacks on their person. If they are attacked by children, address the nations or groups who train children to attack Americans. These are the same military that allow you to live in peace.

I have weighed the option of owning shares in Carnival vs RCL and RCL is a much better-managed company and offers more upside potential for capital gains, better dividends and the bonus is the onboard credit. That said one needs to weigh the options out carefully before purchasing shares in any company, plus people need to familiarize themselves with purchasing shares in Public companies its not for everyone. I have mentioned this to my friend who has cruised a lot and his first reaction was I have never purchased shares in my life and am not comfortable with it, so it is not for everyone. Great Video Gary, just got back from my second cruise on HAL, I guess if I owned shared in Carnival I would have got at least $50 onboard credit for my 7-day cruise. 👌🏼

Reddy 2 Travel I agree about buying cruise co stocks. I own 100 shares of Carnival. I never thought I would ever make a profit but we cruise often on Princess, HAL and Cunard. We like getting the extra OBC, and they do pay dividends.

RSR Development Company Design Build all the information is on the website Carnival.com. You have a form to fill out along with a copy of proof of ownership and a copy of your paid booking. You then fax or mail it to them, and they will send you a confirmation.

@@lindasensabaugh4013 This is not a hoax, all cruise lines offer it, you have to email proof of ownership of 100 shares or more to the cruise line 2 weeks or more prior to your departure date, ideally, you would have purchased your cruise in advance at least 1 month before departure. I personally contacted Princess Cruises directly by phone and talked to an agent and he explained the process to me, it is very explicit and you must give your Princess account number and other requirements, so it's not simply calling up Carnival corporation and faxing your proof of share ownership, there is a specific protocol you must follow and you will see the credit on your shipboard account.

I recently went on a cruise in the Mediterranean with NCL, I was wondering if you can make a video on how to deal with people being ignorant by pushing shoving and some others cutting in line? I wanted to slap them silly because they were being so disrespectful but was worried that if I did I would be kicked off the ship. Instead I just held it in until we disembarked and really let some people have it.

Normally I really enjoy formal dinner nights (take a black suit, French cuffs, etc), but my first Princess is coming up, and I want to travel light. Will a navy blazer with trousers and bow tie suffice? Very helpful vid series.

You should be fine. Some guys will be in suits, but you will probably be “middle of the road “ formal.

The package I booked for September came with gratuities and a soda package included. By the way, the Medallion app is currently inoperable. There is no getting “ocean ready” at this point, because nothing can be arranged on their website anymore.

If you’re not going to book a future cruise onboard, at least put down a $100 deposit for an unspecified future cruise. There are benefits to doing so and if you don’t use it, they’ll refund it.

I am pleasantly surprised that you are just in a basic balcony, ( can’t tell if it is a deluxe or premium balcony as did not see the area near the balcony for the size of the balcony or if there is a love seat). I thought you only go in suites, or at least a mini suite. Fred

My honey and I are planning a Carnival cruise this coming February and I was wondering, since you mentioned that Princess is part of Carnival, if my previous cruises on the Princess line would count toward the VIFP program that Carnival offers? Any information on that would be helpful.

Great tips as always....thanks so much! I'm going on my first ever (and probably last) cruise on the Grand Princess in 2020 sailing from Vancouver to Alaska. Departing on 12th September..........also will be travelling solo (other half couldn't think of anything worse than being stuck on a ship with a heap of strangers!). I have booked a balcony room (why not?!).......but I'm a bit hesitant about the formal nights. Does the formal dress code also apply on those nights to the specialty restaurants?? Might just grab some room service or go to the buffet??? Also a smoker, so looking forward to doing lots of walking trying to find the secret places that I would be allowed to light up in!

Have an enjoyable cruise. I’m not a smoker, but people are allowed to smoke in casino on Princess, also they usually have a smoking place near the aft pool deck. I love the main dining room...you don’t have to dress formal, just nice casual...no T-shirts, shorts or flip flops. Have fun!

Hi, my wife and I joined a 23-day criuse on the Royal Princess Honolulu / Tahiti / Sydney. October 23. As Elite Member's. Honolulu, we joined a line of 400+ passengers and more checking in, which for us over an hour. Free Elite Member's free laundry now takes 4 days. Our dining request for a window table made before the cruise did not eventuate until I showed my preference. The one and only shore excursion in Papeete showed how selfish fellow passengers are. They did not wait in the Princess Theatre as instructed, like we did, but made straight to the bus. By the time we as well waited in Theatre, were religated to the back of the bus. Now, as Elite passengers, I would expect better treatment. We wait to see what happens in New Zealand. Our next cruise we return to Oceania Cruises. Russell Pryer

Never cruised before so I'm curious about #6-Dress Code. Let's say I don't really want to dress up on formal night. I know I probably won't be allowed in the theater, nightclubs, etc. What parts of the ship can I go without dressing up?

You will be allowed in the theater, bars and nightclubs informally dressed. Also the buffet is available and does not observe the formal dress code. I have done a number of Princess Cruises and on formal night I head on up to the buffet before catching a show in my usual shorts and a polo shirt. Never had an issue.

Just a side note about booking a cruise while on a cruise. One does not need to book an actual cruise, but just put down a deposit, $100 CAD or USD or GB£ , then within 2 years one can book a cruise and get that deposit appended to it, with no extra deposit required. This then gives one the shipboard credits on the new cruise, the amount from $15 to $150 per person depends on the length of cruise chosen.

I'll give you a tip. Don't go on the cruise that leaves Vancouver BC to LA at the end of September. Unless you want to re-live the beginning of classic movie the Poseidon adventure. First and last open ocean cruise that I'll ever do.

I have been on 2 Princess cruises and on formal night I did not wear a suit or a jacket and was fine.

They typically look for slacks and a buttoned shirt. Was just on one that had 2 formal nights... I got dressed up for the first one with a tie, but the second one I just wore my slacks and a button down shirt.

Gary: I don't know about you but, on any cruise i don't want to do any chores (laundry). If you're going to spend lots of money anyway pay for your laundry to be done for you. Preferably the day prior to your disembarkation. So you can arrive home with little to do.

Joseph, I agree. I paid for this on my last Princess cruise and I had 8 polo shirts and a pair of jeans laundered for $23. They were pressed and hung in my closet the next day. Worth it for the convenience and time saving.

My 21 year old daughter and two friends the same age loved their week on the Royal Princess 2 months ago. Don’t perpetuate the myth that cruising is for old people.

You can bring your own tea bags, but only to use in the various eating venues. Have a great trip!

The problem occurs when you hit a port. If you are on a cruise on a big ship, and hit a port, even if you can dock and not have to shuttle in on a lifeboat, the town is crowded as you are touring. The small ships which Princess is getting away from are much more pleasant. However they are not as profitable and that's all that Carnival ( the owners of Princess) care about. Carnival has ruined the experience of a Princess cruise.

You obviously like filming yourself, but people want to see the ship. As a voice over myself. It’s so much simpler to voice over while showing how fabulous the ship is

I faxed the info of ownership of shares to a number, 3 times, spoke to people insisted fax to THAT number. The stock is almost worthless so I sold and reinvested. Not worth my time and headache. Do not be so bold to tell everyone you are the authority
