I love two things about this scene: first, how Consort Chun is half panicking at the beginning and just looking at Ruyi for help like WTF do I do now, she's not answering. And second how throughout the series, Ruyi is bloody logical. She works her math homework when Gao is abusing Hailan, she bloody trashes the princess in this scene. Even when she knows it's going to bite her back later, she still works logically and for the best outcome rather than selfishly. Almost ;)

I love what Ruyi spoke reasonably, logically, and practically to that spoiled princess who acts and thinks that she is more superior than the rest regardless of seniority ; such a wonderful slap and hard hit to her face.

Exactly! Her mother spoiled her to such an extent that all she saw was the luxuries that came with her titles not the responsibilities I just wish there had been a scene with the dowager giving the Princess a reality check as well
As the princess said, the royal family has less freedom than a peasant. You are a pawn to be used for the greater good of the dynasty.

I really doubt they have "less freedom" than a peasant

Princess thinks life revolves around her wants only. So she said her life is inferior to peasants' daughter. She clearly doesn't realize the people struggle to life day by day. Working for food, and money doesn't always come. Having to marry far is already a hurdle in her life she thinks. Hiw priviliged. How come them empress is so frugal but couldn't teach her daughter to be down-to-earth?

Empress fuca put on a facade. She's not humble nor frugal, it's all an act to maintain a pristine image to keep the public opinion with her not against her. Empress fuca here looks down on the consorts when she was once their equal in social standing before ruyi's clan fell. She even gave her so called ally noble consort hui a bracelet that rendered her infertile for life. She envied ruyi so much because she thought ruyi had the emperor's undying favor, when in reality that guy cares for no one but himself and nothing but his throne. Furthermore, empress fuca could have adopted the first prince yonghuang but instead neglected him. She pushed her own son yonglian in the cold weather so he would continue his lessons, but all it gave him was asthma. Of course her daughter would think she's superior to everyone.

@@malakzaiter2291 yup. That is probably why. I know what you meant. It was a rhetorical question. But it is true, what you said. The queen might not directly teaches her children that they are superior. But her behaviour does shows that. Children are bright. They absorb from everything. But in this show, the emperor is the biggest villain.😂

@@malakzaiter2291 Fuca sure did not complained about extravagance when the Emperor gifted her a whole box of pearls while all the other consorts get only one.

В смысле "уступаю дочери фермера"?, как будто дочь фермера выбирала за кого замуж выйдет...

9:34 again this Emperor is so problematic he expects everyone else to repeat the dogma that the Princess' duty is to marry off but in its own heart he secretly hoped for her to stay

I don't like the emperor, he is not a good person!

También en nuestro Occidente las princesas se casabab por deber y no por amor. También entre los otomanos. Triste eso pero el bienestar de la dinastía es superior al bienestar de un individuo (o al menos eso se esperaba).
