The Prinzregententorte is a Bavarian specialty. It was created for the prince regent Luitpold of Bavaria in 1886 for his 65th Birthday. The cake consists of 7/8 thin layers of sponge cake, each topped with chocolate German buttercream and finished off with a smooth chocolate glaze. Each sponge and cream layer represents one of the districts of Bavaria (there used to be 8 now there are 7). This cake doesn't just look elegant it also tastes so good!
