Malayalam Industry can't afford Bollywood Stars ..Prithvi or DQ is getting more exposure in Tamil/Telugu/Hindi as their market is bigger.. I haven't seen Prithvi going to smaller industries like Bengali or Marathi either.. Actors like Nasruddin Shah or Anupam Kher have acted in Malayalam movies..

Media only highlights popular cinema so it is with hindi, telugu and Tamil. Now kannada films and actors even though it's 2 actors(yash and risabh shetty) are getting recognition nationwide. It always comes down to marketing. I feel that Malayalam cinema and its actors benefit from not being in the race for popularity or mass cinema in the hopes of finding fame with audience. I see Malayalam cinema as similar to Iranian cinema, without nothing like European cinema it got so much recognition due to its stories and actors talents. So it took a long time from being at film festivals to getting 2 Oscar for Iran cinema which once was invisible.

Bollywood is just trying to jump into the bandwagon of those around the country and the world praising films from the South and say we don't believe in North and South.... suddenly they get patriotic. Prithviraj did do hindi movies but he also said it's not all that and it's been years since he did 2 hindi movies if I'm not wrong. Meanwhile he can sell remake rights for his movie that he co/produces to these bollywood produces who majority of time want to capitalize on films in South.

Why in the first place there's individual film industry in one country. Bollywood in the past and present still doesn't acknowledge diversity so why amalgamate when one part of the country is different from each other. It's better for exhibitors and producers to come together and work on how to market movies from Malayalam movies to Marathi to Bengali to Assamese movies. Promoting mass commercial cinema from telugu or kannada is fine but there should be more diverse movies besides that.
