One muscle to rule them all. Not really but this is a VERY important muscle to work when talking about the head and neck, so here are some great techniques to release it and help make someone's day better. Thanks for watching!
*I'd normally do these techniques multiple times and even slower but can't show everything when trying to minimize videos, just an FYI :)

Spencer, I've just found your channel. I'm currently a Massage Therapy student and your videos are a great supplementation to what I'm learning in class. It's hard for me to remember what was shown quickly in demos, so it's nice to have something to look back at and study. Your work is greatly appreciated!

what if C7 is moved (after a car crash) and scapulae are so tense and u can not even see scapulars. I am talking about my mom who is over 60 and has so much tension there. I've just qualified to Swedish massage but I know it is not enough to ease her pain... with what intensity I need to massage those places? I love your technique. Great video! Thank You

Idk man, seems to me you are doing everything but the levator. Trapezius mostly and some scalenes and romboid. The main part of the levator is on the neck and its quite hard to distinguish from the trapezius as it is actually under the trapezius. The only way to get it is to slide the fingers really deep in the neck which is not so pleasant for most people. Kinda like doing the sternocleidomastoid ... ew

This area on my girl is so insanely tight, it's not even like a muscle anymore but a solid mass on both sides. She has perpetually resulting, deep seated knots down around her scapulae and she actually starts to black out when I'm working it. She also has regular migraines (surprise, surprise). I've never felt anything like it and I have been doing massage as a hobby, branching off from some familiarity due to art studies of anatomy, for many years. I've been using vibration on the area, my usually go to when something is so tender, the reciever can't tolerate touch. I'm going to use hot towels and heating massage oil tonight. Are there any special pointers for this scenario? Perhaps particular places to pinpoint and hold pressure or things to avoid? Much appreciated.

maybe try acupuncture along with massage to release the tension area. Im a LMT and have a client with similiar issues, so many trigger points that even touching her at all intense and so painful. She thought it was something that she had to just deal with.I was getting nowhere with massage alone. I finally suggested acupuncture and after 3 sessions the progress has been amazing!

Some inner work and Reiki should help as well. But the tissue has to be broken down to clear the blockages. And prepare for any emotional release. And or bruising may occur.
@michaellaracuenti9896

The first thing I would recommend is evaluating her posture from the side to see if she has forward head posture and or rounded shoulders if she does I would have her work on her posture there are exercises to help improve her posture. If she works all day on her computer I would recommend that she take a couple of minutes to rotate her shoulders and neck every hour. Have you ever tried hot stones , they can really help to loosen up contracted muscle . Then you can use the techniques that spencer is demonstrating , he is a excellent therapist and he definitely knows his craft. I have had a couple of clients who have this problem, also don't forget to work her pectorals , the body is all connected. I hope this helps you some , Just keep massaging ,hang in there
