TO EVERYONE ASKING!!! I will be leaving this glove from here on out so all it has is that 3 minutes. I’ve been heavily considering getting her and our second daughter Val new gloves NOW that they can one day break in themselves. Reason is because I realized it’s a men’s model and will never be a realistic glove for her to use. So Ruth will likely end up with two special gloves lol lucky her

I use oil sparingly about once every other year if the glove looks like it could use it especially after a snowpitch season . I normally use Aussie leather conditioner before every season aswell. Not saying that's the right way to go about it but it's worked great for me over the years. My Rawlings HOH is still in top shape after 9 years. Love the videos man!

Great video. More analytical than other vids, and I think mixing the paste with the oil was very clever. Since you asked for feedback: I use neatsfoot oil (mostly on the pocket), Nokona glove conditioner (coating the whole glove), and lots of mallet work/ (3-8lb) dumbbell work. The softer the glove, the less of the neatsfoot and conditioner I use. If I want to reshape a glove, fix a bubble, or just throw spaghetti against the wall, I will do a targeted hot water treatment to hinge, pocket, bubbles, creases and use the mallet. I also have had some luck sticking my mallet or a ball in a glove and wrapping it with an ace bandage for about a day. I think that this stretches the leather in the pocket slowly, as a contrast to the fast impact of mallet work, etc.

As an Old, I like a slightly softer glove. I use hot water and a mallet to shape the glove, loosen the heel, place the pocket, and create the hinges . Once dry, I use the mallet again to further create the hinges and pocket. I then condition the glove lightly and wrap it in a band with 2 balls. 12 hours or so later I’ll unwrap the glove and do more mallet work on the hinges and pocket - after which I’ll apply a light coat of oil, applied from a rag. Then I wrap the glove again for 12 hours. Once the oil is dry, I’ll again use the mallet to reinforce the hinge breaks and the pocket. I then condition it again with Sarna. From there it’s catch - and the glove is broken in. It retains its shape and structure, but the leather is a little softer. I don’t see much of a color change using oil applied first to a rag and rubbed in so that there’s no pooling or excess.

Akadema dual welting makes the glove super stiff but durable. If it want an Akadema that breaks in faster then I recommend the wingtip

I will only use the conditioner and sweet it out with a mallet. I don’t like the oil as it changes the color, plus I don’t like the feel. Time, effort and conditioner, and you have a nice usable glove that looks like new.

Hey man, great glove videos. I've been looking to get an Akadema glove and I wanted to know what you thought about them especially after working on these 2. I know you mentioned that these 2 gloves were really stiff and I prefer that in gloves. I feel those definitely last a lot longer. What do you think about Akademas?

Unless i'm missing it, but you do not have any storage videos on how to store your glove or the best ways to do it. If you do, please let me know what video it is. Thank you and love the videos. Got my glove conditioner that you promote and never knew it was just down the road from me. I ordered it and came like almost the next day. I could have just drove over and picked it up. LOL

Akadema if Torino model, its japanese kip. If it's their precision series it's another type of kip. Either American or Italian from what I remember reading. Question I have is are Akademas good gloves? I can get custom Torinos for under $200.

Whats your advice for keeping the glove’s shape over time? How should the glove be stored at home, on the way to and from games, how to store when packing in backpack or suitcase…? My son is 14U and just got an A2000 DP15 11.5”. Plays short and we want to keep the 2 hinges without it getting floppy…
@TysonHook-22-
@TysonHook-22- 10 ай бұрын
Hi, I assume youve found the answer already but heres my 2 cents... When resting the glove at home, on a bench or field, I place ball gloves one of two ways 1. glove spread open with thumb and pinky stalls rested on the ground. (you can stack gloves ontop of eachother safely this way too.) 2. glove spread open and stood up on its finger tips. lastly I dont do it but many do, you can hang a glove on the wall too, supported by its palm (the glove king displays his glove collection this way in the background of his videos) You want to avoid just flopping the glove down on its side and leaving it to rest unsupported, as over time the gloves structure will be lost... instead use the fingers to create a structured rested position. Ideally your glove never gets shoved in a bag where it can be deformed. but if you must put it in a bag with other things put a softball in the glove pocket, ideally with a band around the glove to make sure the ball doesnt fall out. Some people buy specialty glove cases/storage bag things, some use a small secondary bag like those shoe string gym bags, some just carry the glove outside of there bags in hand or clipped a top of there bags. When it comes to expensive gloves just be situationally aware, try to avoid situations were the glove could accidently be crushed and deformed.

One of the benefits of black leather. Black leather doesn't discolor from oil like colored leathers; so if you happen to oil it too much or unevenly there is virtually no visual effect. My black 44 was super stiff so I did a heavy oiling and it is working much better now.

Is there a reason why so many pro infielders break in their glove straight up (from looking at their game used gloves on eBay), but most on KZfaqrs are going with flared thumb, pinky, two in the pink?
