I haven't seen much music featuring the Behringer Pro VS Mini yet. The initial run sold out quickly and dealers are just starting to get them in stock again. Here it's serving as a pluck that turns into a sort of bell when the cutoff opens up. It's the first sound I designed when I took it out of the package and I'm looking forward to exploring this synth in more depth!
The Moog Minitaur is the bass for this one. I finally got the firmware updated and got the Minitaur Editor plugin working, which unlocks Velocity and Key mapping for the filter cutoff.
The Arturia Microfreak plays a lead line. It's a unison patch that's meant to sound like a sort of analog string machine. I love the versatility of the Microfreak, but I have to dig into it more deeply at some point.
The IK Multimedia Uno Synth is playing an analog string-like pad. I'll probably explore this synth more in the future. I got it refurbished for $99 and it's been sitting in a drawer for quite a while. It was in immaculate shape--I can highly recommend IK's refurbished listings on Reverb.
Every channel other than the Minitaur has a combination of Baby Audio's Magic Switch for chorus/width and their Baby Comeback plugin for delay, plus reverb from Raum from Native instruments. The Minitaur has some saturation added with the free Saturation Knob from Softube and a hint of Magic Switch for width. All four plugins are free--get the free Komplete Start bundle from NI to get Raum for free, otherwise it's $49. It's totally worth $49, but free is better!
The drums and all the midi tracks are sequenced in my DAW. For mixing I've done relatively little. The main aspect of these performances is manipulating the filter cutoff on each instrument to create progression in the track and to control which instruments are in focus at any one time. As a side effect I usually don't have to do much EQing or compression to get something sounding decent. I just roll off a little low end from most of the instruments.
I always wonder if these tracks get stuck in my head because I listen to them a million times while working on them or because they're genuinely catchy. This one, I think, is genuinely catchy. I'm pretty sure it will form the basis for a future release from my band, Plague Society. I was really feeling it and just listening to it on loop even when I wasn't working on it!
