Great music, some really great sounds you've programmed. People are so critical of Behringer synths, but they can sound fantastic in the right hands. I've got the Behringer Pro VS Mini too, it's an amazing little synth for the money!
@scottnelleАй бұрын
I get why people gripe about the Behringer clones, but I don't feel bad about buying the ones that clone gear that's no longer produced (like the Prophet VS and the Octave Cat). Cloning the Mother 32 is a little questionable, but Moog fans will tell you that the Crave is nothing like the Mother 32, so I'll give that a pass, too. :-)

Excellent work again! So pure and clear sounds and catchy groove. 🎶😎✨ Nice to hear about your workflow. I've done something similar (write stuff in daw and play those with hardware) in couple of jams, and this is the way I'm sure I'd do it with complete songs. Would be great to have all of the instruments play at the same time though, right now I'm limited to one midi out. Hardware calls out for more hardware huh. 🙂
@scottnelleАй бұрын
We always need more hardware! My interface (a Focusrite Scarlett) is also limited to a single midi out, but it sends 16 channels so I have a midi splitter (mine is a CME Thru5, which is pretty affordable) to split it out to up to 5 outputs. Each track in my DAW sends to one channel, and the single output carries all 16 which get duplicated to each of the Thru5's outputs. Then I set each synth to only listen to the one channel I want it to play back. Maybe your setup can use something similar, so that you don't need to buy a dedicated midi interface or a new audio interface!

I really like the Crave! It doesn't do fat detuned oscillator sounds (although you could patch it up with a second synth to get them) but for crisp single oscillator sounds, it's great. I find it very usable in my tracks.

@challingsworth6932Ай бұрын
Sounds really cool. Are you sending midi to everything from a daw? If so are you somehow getting seperate midi outs into each device?
@scottnelleАй бұрын
Thanks! Yup, all midi comes from the DAW. I use (in this case) four separate midi channels to program the data for the four synths. My interface has a single midi output which sends up to 16 midi channels. I run that output into a CME Thru5 midi splitter which has five midi outputs, each of which includes all 16 midi channels. Finally, each synth is configured to listen only to the single channel that I want, so they all receive all 16 channels but they ignore 15 of them and play back only 1. The midi splitter is great because it makes it so much easier to include synths that don't include a midi thru port. And I can recommend the CME Thru5 specifically, which is quite affordable and has been 100% reliable for me.

I really like your sound design in this piece I especially was surprised with the quality of the stabs out of the Volca Keys, and the brass sounds from the Cat. Most demos of the Cat show people using it for weird modulated lead sounds, but it apparently does super well for more "vanilla " synth leads as well
@scottnelle2 ай бұрын
Thanks, Craig! I agree, the Cat is a very capable synth for the basic sounds. I think it has really cool modulation capabilities and people go wild with them, but the thing I find most inspiring about it is the flexible waveform mixing that produces really rich sounds even without much modulation.

@scottnelle2 ай бұрын
Thanks! For this one (and most of my videos) the drums are sequenced in my DAW. The samples are loaded in the free sampler Sitala. The kick is from Mercurial Tones Smooth Kicks Volume 2, the Snare is from Slate's Seismic Drums sample pack, and the rest is from the default Sitala kit.

Good one. The Behringer pro mini looks interesting 🤔
@scottnelle2 ай бұрын
I really like it! It sounds very different from the analog synths that I have and it's great to have that variety. There are some great stock patches and the sound design experience is interesting. It's not too different from a regular subtractive synth, and I watched a video from Behringer that made the four voice vector thing much more clear to me.
@jaderington2 ай бұрын
I nearly bought the new Behringer OBX clone but my heart wanted a Sequenceual Take 5. It was meant to be the last synth & then quit with the G.A.S. Then it was the Colbalt and a hard to get, tiny Micromonsta 2 went up on eBay. I think I've stopped now. I made the fattest bass line with my Behringer crave for one of my Trax once....thats the first time I've seen that one your using there. I have an mpc x that was hard to learn but my workflow using synths and Bitwig is where I do best. Im a master of none because of my greed, or a dream fulfilled. I had one Trax last month that hit the algorithm with 320 plays, but outside of that even free music is hard to promote. I had one trax released by a lable and a copyright notice when i put it up on KZfaq. I called myself ; Itching the think , and a million bad skin conditions come up if you type it into sesrch 😅 I made music with a sampler when I was young then I stopped for over 20 years. Lockdown made me by a synth in 2020. If i get bored of it this time I have a lot of stuff to get rid of
@scottnelle2 ай бұрын
@@jaderington I saw that Behringer was working on a UB-XA mini in the same size as the Pro VS Mini and I'll definitely get that when it's available. Otherwise I'm also trying not to buy many more synths. I'll probably get something from Dreadbox at some point, and I have a Minibrute 2s on my wishlist, but I have plenty of tools already. I think the long descriptions that I write help with the algorithm, but I'm not certain. Whether they do or not, I like to share about my process every time I release a video!

@@scottnelleWe'll be accused of having a brag~Off. I bought a TR8S last month thinking I would jam more , but alas 😅 and no matter what you do there's a tiny latency when using with the DAW. It is nice, but really. I have million of drums. I have a Dreadbox Medusa, I was going to use it right now but I had to fix my last Trax vocals because of my dreadful voice. Time before that I was learning the Cobalt. I just wanted an easy time of it this time so out came the hated Roland system 1. Its so idiot proof for people like me. I made that Badboy sing in my sound design shesh along with the brand new & Free, U~he zebrzlette. Thats a new concept in synthesizer, I really like it. And GForce just released OBX drum machine software for £20. Prince and new order to name but a few used it back in the day, it's very retro but cool. I'll finish it in a couple of days now. Its in the bag already. Then Medusa come out ... dun dun dun ! I rotate them all the time.The Blofield or Hydrasynth after that. I'd like to drown the Hydrasynth tbh. It make me feel extra stupid and its not always right for my type of music. I don't sell my stuff on, so it stays. I'm getting better slowly but surly.
