Good find and great for those mounting a lot of components. I was trying to find small radio lead pliers which I found on Amazon after finding your video. Just need to j hook some leads and stuff for a Heathkit style guitar amp kit. I miss the old days of Heathkit and Radio Shack. Miss my Navy Electronics days as well. Have fun on the Mac project. I didn't dive into the Mac world until 2017, don't miss the alternatives even if work still mandates something else. Enjoy Japan, stationed there 92-96 and I miss it. Need to go again.

With the Yen being 156 to US$1 right now, you absolutely should come to Japan soon. Your Dollars have more buying power now than they have in the last 38 years. It was about 1986 when the Yen was this weak. There's never been a better time to visit Japan. But I am not sure how long the weak Yen will last. Depends on how quickly they increase bank rates.

I have recently discovered your videos. I love the thoroughness of what you do. So much so a person who is new to soldering or learning electronics could learn so much. Thank you for what you do 😊

Cool, I didn't know that this tool existed. In hindsight it makes sense. Actually, this is a fairly important tool as it keeps the leads from bending at the component side which can cause issue. Well worth the purchase! Thank you James!

Nice detailed video James! These are simple but very useful tools. I got mine here in Australia many years back from a local electronics store so it might be worth checking locally before paying for international shipping. Also of note is the patent (3142484, filed 1962, granted 1964) belongs to Probemaster President Richard Press.

Thank you for watching and for your kind words, Gavin! Even though the patent has long expired, I consider than another "plus" for getting this kit. It's not just another knock-off set made in China. I have nothing against China, and let's face it, Apple makes a lot of things there. But quality control is still an issue unless you actively manage the factory. And for cheap little plastic tools like this, nobody is going to worry so much about QC in China. So getting quality tools, made in a mold (and not 3D printed), has benefits. Feel free to post the link to the set you have though, for the benefit of others who are in Australia. (Avoid using the HTTP part and spell out the period and slash, so as to avoid the KZfaq filters.)

@@JDW- Good points re China. For anyone in Australia or NZ - they'll be well aware of a chain called Jaycar who stock the tool.

This won't won't for glass diodes. It puts too much strain on the glass, they WILL crack. You must hold the lead and prevent strain to the diode.

Did you know you can use the pin emerging from the bottom of the vernier calipers to measure depth?
@JDW-
@JDW- Жыл бұрын
Yes, but that works only to measure the depth on the outer edge of the 901 tool and is not best for measuring the depth of the middle section of the 901 tool, which is why I used that little piece of paper instead.

Hey man, how are you? Are you still into cycling? Can you do more reviews about those cheap bike helmets?
@JDW-
@JDW- Жыл бұрын
It's funny you should mention that because I went out with my high school age son this evening to get him a new bike for school. All of the helmets they had looked similar to the one I reviewed a few years ago, but they were all in the US$50 or higher range. In the end, I decided to let my son use my helmet (the same one I reviewed a few years back), since it is still in near perfect condition. Perhaps if I buy another helmet, I will consider doing a review. Even so, I did get a bashing from most pro cyclists who watched my video and chastised me endlessly for not having done like them and paid top dollar for a premium brand name helmet. My opinion remains the same though. These helmets are all mostly just styrofoam anyway, so I don't see a huge difference between a cheap Chinese made helmet and the premium priced helmets from the big brand names. Even when looking over the ones in the bicycle store today, they all looked the same internally and externally to my eye -- thin plastic and styrofoam!

Fantastic tool. I feel like this could be 3D printed.
@JDW-

I found an even more complete set on Aliexpress but didn’t buy it only because it was 3-D printed. My concern is that it wouldn’t be as precise as the molded version I purchased and show in my video. If someone makes an extremely precise model and then uses an extremely precise 3-D printer, then you’re right it probably would be ideal.

@@Vancha112 More options is always a good thing, but after looking at that thingiverse, I see: (1) there is only a single tool offered, (2) it's only single-sided, (3) no detailed size compatibility info is discussed. If I were going to do 3D models, it's clear from my video that more than one tool is needed. That's why I'm glad I bought all 3 from ProbeMaster because I ended up using them all.

No need to apologize. I appreciate all links, especially when they’re on topic like yours was. It’s just that there are certain caveats to the file you linked for us, and I wanted to mention that. That’s all. Thanks again!
