With the first object, I had issues because the scale was wrong. S + 5 should do it. I think with a newer version, you have to apply first the scale for the second object before you press Ctrl + L to apply the modifier. So scale your second object and then press Ctrl + A and apply scale ( In my case I had to apply the position as well). But still, it does not look like in the video

Funny to see how different the versions work. It starts with the first displace which works completely different with size of 4 on musgrave
@bradm70503 жыл бұрын
Chances are you're in the comments because you can't get yours to look like Alchemica did. Here's what you need to do: 1. Play with the scale of your object. 2. In both textures, move your color ramp position up and down until it gets a little closer. 3. Go to the modifier properties and change the strength of both displacements. 4. For the normals, play with the angle. Somewhere between 30 and 90 degrees should be the sweet spot, I settled with 45. (That's Object Data properties - the green triangle) 5. Under viewport shading, change the cavity properties. I ended up at 0.5 and 0.5 for Valley and Ridge.
@bradm70503 жыл бұрын
Edit: I ended up around 0.1 - 0.3 for the displacement strengths

Great work!! How did you go about exporting this very highpoly geo into your game editor? I am assuming its not as simple as applying all the modifiers, baking a displacement map and applying that to a mesh right? Because that wouldn't make a big difference optimization-wise... Could you give us some insights?
@DragonSephi873 жыл бұрын

just wanted to input my 5 cents regarding screen recording, I always for everything use OBS Studio. Its free and for people who also want to stream content. but it's got a recording functionality and it's very nice to use with great quality (that can be defined in settings ofc), you could even layer other things on top of the video like images, videos etc... If you wanna stream simple windows like word, blender, etc or even games, it's got no problems with it. If you wanna record full screen, window or a self defined area is up to you, it's really worth looking into i think ;) thanks for this tutorial, with a few adjustments a good foundation for my lava dude I'm creating :'D

seems like in 2.93 and newer, the musgrave-voronoi texture is much darker than before *especially when using the Color Ramp, leading to smoother, less defined disp. anyone have tips to deal with that? the brightness/contrast settings don't help much
@Oblivion4eg2 жыл бұрын
adjust color ramp. go to texture -> select your texture -> click colors -> tick color-ramp. you see color ramp. in this manual you click "+" and set new slider on 0.234. well, if it's too dark your rocks will be big, in which case slide it to the right side. something like .345 or .456 for example. Or click + again and adjust it even more

So it seems like this effect is very dependent on scale of the object. What if I want to rescale the rock up or down? I can't seem to figure that out. If I apply all transforms, the effect disappears.

Nicely done. My computer couldn't handle the last step with the skin modifier.. But very cool way to make rocks. I wish the rendered view could look like the 3d viewport with the details created by the cavity feature in the solid view.. maybe there is a way.. but I'm still new to blender
@davidmargis34764 жыл бұрын
Here's how it's done. Go to the subdivision subsurface modifier, the first modifier created on the object, and set the Render number to the same number as Viewport. Then the number of subdivisions rendered will be the same as those shown in the viewport.
