@@MontePlus very true. From the moment I just let go of trying to make beats that were mainstream friendly… it opened up so many pathways to create art and not just beats. There’s so many other aspects a young person could get into. I’m just thinking from a business owner perspective as I have rentals. Some of which up and coming artist and entertainers have rented from my Airbnbs alone. What about the vans that move high profile celebrities? Armed security? Jewelry? Some of you with connections, might be able to open a a popular night spot, club, venue that those celebrities would want to frequent that could get you in with meeting multiple celebrities as they travel. Maybe instead of being the producer.. be the guy who oversees the studio and hires producers. Leverage connections to get starting artist in and find out how you can get closer to celebrities whilst also being profitable. You could run a business who would have the props ready for a rap video.. location, props, women 😂.. The possibilities are endless.

Having a second skills related to making beats is super useful. Per exemple, I started DJing 2 years ago while i'm still making beats. The amount of connection and opportunity I had since is huge. I was able to meet people and give them physically my beats while having a human connection with them. Don't rely on simply making beats. If you have another skills, try to work on it !

Broski me personally, I love making beats and at the same time I want to go to uni and learn medicine, Ik that studying will take most part of my time but if you organise your schedule and ur life between uni and making beats and making connections then ur good and when u finish ur bachelor u can make money as (in my case as a doctor) and being a musician at the same time. Its not impossible I know some ppl personally who are producers and rappers and at the same time they study architecture and medicine or other topics. But it all depends on ur vision and ur desires. But be careful and take your time and make the right choice. Every person is different.

Yes. I am a doctor but it’s not what I love. I’ve loved electronic music of some form since I was like 9. Once I started working full time as a doctor I actually became rather depressed feeling like I had nothing to look forward to after work. Once I realized learning DJing and production were what I wanted to do I felt like I figured it out. I make my money as a doctor and on my free time I want to produce and play music. I don’t give a shit about getting rich from it since I have another avenue of income and I can purely just enjoy the art.

That is a strategy I am planning to embark on, My beats are now sounding good. I took some months off to work on my mixes and sound selection and I have improved a lot.

I think the issue is that anyone's "formula" for getting rich, even if it worked super well for them, is probably already outdated cause the music game moves so fast. Doesn't mean it will NEVER work again, but it gets way less likely as the business side keeps changing all the time. The only thing that doesn't change is the value in genuine good music. The best advice I can give, having had a moderate amount of success and organic growth, is focus on your musicality, individuality as a producer and building close personal relationships. Anyone telling you otherwise needs RECEIPTS and genuine proof that their method still works.
@prodkxvi
@prodkxvi 21 күн бұрын
I got new receipts and proof every day! Not every method is BS, there are truths in what you’re saying about things being out dated and fast paced . But I 100% stand behind the fact that if you build an online brand, build your email list, you can monetize that brand. It’s just basic e-commerce tbh, get eyes on your brand, eventually sell your product to them, capture email to continue selling to them

It's still doeable but the approach is much different now. It's more to it than just uploading and networking strictly, building a platform will get you a lot further and put you in better positions where you have more leverage to get more out of your work. I don't sell beats but I engineer and creating KZfaq content around that brings way more eyeballs to you and your services which is what a lot of people make excuses from doing so they just shut it down from laziness or from a limited belief of not being able to achieve it because they haven't seen it YET to see what can actually can be done... Either way the game has changed and if you're just lazy, don't apply yourself, & fail to think creatively to figure out new ways to promote yourself (Products or Services), then good luck, you're going to need it since that's all people are basically relying on at this point... That's my thought idk if anyone else thinks different

1st point is what my problem is with todays beatmaking, making only one type of beats (ex. gunna type beats) is limiting creativity and this is what we can see today on youtube - people making yt channel with one type of beat wishing they will fit in the algorythm, all those beats sound the same and dont bring anything new to the industry, even top producers make different type of beats and i even heard your beats are not just one type, so why should we limit our selfes by that.
@prodkxvi
@prodkxvi 21 күн бұрын
In my experience it’s best to niche down at first and focus on one lane, then branch out as you grow and “master” each thing you do. Instead of trying to do it all at once. Of course , that’s if you are trying to make A living. If you’re just doing it for fun, don’t box yourself in and just do what’s fun! No right answer
@letssee9
@letssee9 8 күн бұрын
I agree with you, making one type is very limiting. It also saturated the industry with things that are so similar that people don't know who made the music..... there are very few signature sounds these day. I'm an old guy now, I had a lot of success from the laye 80s to the mid 2000s with a few well known acts. Back then, the goal was to capitalize off our production abilities, artists had budgets to spend on making their records. Things have changed but if you feel that making 1 type of beat will limit you, it probably will. Go create your signature sound! That will pay off even in this current climate, do something that's not easily mimicked. Put it our on your own with good marketing. As it gets popular, people that want that have to get it from you...... can't be it from a sample pack. Sounds like you are more about the art than others that see music as just a hustle, everything has its place. Good luck.
@GrinchDaGoonBeats
@GrinchDaGoonBeats 8 күн бұрын
@@letssee9 exactly what i was thinking about i grew up on early 2000s music and some 90s , every artist had its own signature sound, now its all “one type beat” and i get the message it can work when u trying to sell music but i see nothing but a quick few bucks and nothing revolutionary that would replace a 9-5 job in a long run because as soon as the trends switch than you are out of business, another thing i see is that none of the top producers right now limited theirselfes so.. yeah i kind of managed to make my sound but im still working on it, recently i switched more to the rnb side because im loosing love for hiphop i once had , im working on my marketing and all the other stuff right now etc we will see how it goes but making one type beat is not the way i want to go lol

selling beats online is a niche market that can work for a very few people. It blew up a few years ago, but it's indeed, oversaturated. Maths don't lie, a new comer have almost the same chances to "becoming rich" by selling beats than to win the big numbers at the national lotery or at a table in a casino, which means a very low chance. And i don't even take into account the AI coming for the beat making. rap/trap and so on beats are so easy to make/replicate endlessly, because it's for now at least, a very simple music style, with easy cooking recipes. In a few years, rappers will not even need to pay a beatmaker, unless the one who are very, very talented and have big connections with established artists. I began this selling beats online journey years ago, and the price tags were decent, now i see more and beats packs with like 100 beats for 50 euros. It's a decending market, all the numbers are here to confirm this. Good luck for the new comers anyway.

I don't think AI would be able to take over beat making tbh and I don't think it's a descending market either. I think a lot of people are lazy that's why they think so . I remember starting my channel some months ago and the first 3 months I made just one $45 sale and I thought beat selling was cooked so I thought about quitting but then I still kept going and now I'm making at least 5 sales a week and I know there's defo more to come

No right way to go! But if you want to make money, it’s a lot easier to do it with something proven to work than trying to create something completely new that nobody is looking for already

It's important to view a comment like Kenny Beat's with context. His point is NOT that you can't "get rich" from making beats. The intention of his statement is to say that if you are making music TO get rich, you're a fool. Meaning that people who make substantial money as musicians are committed to the love of music first and foremost and what they do from a business standpoint is how they value that passion, not vice versa. The irony here is that this video is proof of his claim - you likely will have to do many things outside of just the music today in order to have a career as a producer because it is NOT just being a musician that sustains your brand. KXVI isn't getting rich from just being a musician so he isn't even who Kenny is talking about - he's using many, many other avenues (just like Kenny does with streaming, his show, his sponsors, etc), wearing other hats and utilizing platforms to sell things such as guides, planners, loop kits, video monetization and so forth.

With AI like Sunos, rappers can literally just type in the words "West Coast Hip Hop Beat from 93" and it will generate that for them, they don't even need to pay a lease. We are entering dangerous territory as producers.

hey Kxvi, great video! i got a question, if you can answer me and give me your opinion on this: you say to choose one lane, and i definitely agree it's better not to do a lot of stuff at the same time. but for example: if I choose to make short form content to promote my beats (like videos of me making the samples and drums), that might appeal to rappers and producers as well.. do you think it's fine to try and build like 2 email lists? like, one for my beats and targeted at rappers and another targeted for producers to try and sell loops, starters, midis etc.? or just focus on one? even if my content appeals to rappers AND producers... thanks man!
@prodkxvi
@prodkxvi 21 күн бұрын
You should 100% make 2 email lists if you’re planning on attacking 2 different types of people. As far as choosing one or the other, you do what feels right for you. But if you try to do too much, your brand may struggle to find a core audience. Because you’re trying to appeal to too many people, I don’t have all the answers but I think focusing on one is probably the most effective way
