Hey everyone! Today I'm sharing my opinion on a couple of Arteza products. I am reviewing the A4 sketchbook and the 60 tubes gouache set.
This video is NOT SPONSORED.
I bought the gouache from my own money. The books were sent to me by Arteza. I was asked to create a video reviewing them, expressing my own opinions.

Hello from Albuquerque. I always love to see you paint and enjoy your videos--so inspirational! I'm so glad you reviewed these gouache paints. I've been on the fence about purchasing them but it looks like I will totally enjoy them. I think they will be a great addition to my art journal supplies.

I was an oil painter for most of my life from childhood and I'm a great, great, grandma. Due to allergies, I broke out into pastels, acrylics and water-missible oils... then watercolors and, finally, gouache. In gouache I found the "fun factor" of oils again while all the other mediums left me wanting. There was always something to other mediums that I had to "fight" in my style. I now pretty much use all my watercolors, due to their quality and expense, as gouache by the addition of opaque pigments to the transparent ones. They don't act exactly like the coarser grind of gouache but at least they're getting used. I've adjusted to my work never duplicating the "glow" of oils when finished but I do enjoy painting with them. I mimic that "glow" with carefully chosen, highly contrasting, pigments. For me gouache comes closest to the experience of oils rather than acrylics in that they have an unlimited working time for blending, even surpassing water-missible oils in that respect, which my style depended on for so long. For convenience, I do appreciate tones or pigments close together on a palette because of the rather dramatic tonal shifts in gouache and duplicating color can be difficult so the more convenience (no mixing) the better for me. I especially appreciate them in pigments used for skin. I buy various brands of similar pigments for those close tones to save me from having to mix huge amounts and save in special containers for consistency. I'm really enjoying being back to my oil mixing forumlas too.. ie: yellows + blacks for an array of greens. For those interested in gouache used in an oil style or If you want to see gouache used very similarly to oils, this artist shows it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtWCodCpz7DdoY0.html Thank you for the review. I wish these came singly so I could try them.

Thank you Pat for sharing your experience! I have never painted with oils, but I suspect there were some similarities. The flexibility and ability to work the paint is sth I am drawn to. I feel some days watercolors are not forgiving enough. I have bought some water mixable oils to try, I am also curious if maybe that is the medium for me. I want to try it all 😀 thanks again for sharing ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Irit! Loved this video and was so happy to see you painting in the journal along with your review. Your style just speaks to my heart! I did purchase this set after watching a previous video where you used them. I had been wanting to add gouache to my art supplies for a long time, but wasn't sure what brand to purchase. I didn't want to go too cheap, but also didn't want to spend a lot of money so these seemed to be that perfect fit. I did buy the 60 set and now I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! HA! When it comes to watercolors, etc I have always purchased the premade sets (Prima, etc) so I never had to create my own palette. I'm like you where I always use express too much paint so I thought it would be easier to put them in pans versus going through the tubes each time I want to use them. I'm a little lost on where to start...do you happen to have a video on your channel where you show how you create your palette? Even if it's a set-up of your watercolor palette...I think that would help me in picking and choosing which colors I should start with. I did look for it, but could have missed it. :) Thanks so much!!

Hi Kelly! Yup 60 colors is way too much !! I would pick a couple of yellows, a couple of blues, a red and a pink. White, black, grey. Then I would just add my favorites in a more or less balanced manner. So maybe start wihh a lighter yellow, lighter pink, lighter blue, teal and so on. I'd try to stay at 24 max. Hope this helps! Let me know how it works for you!

Do you add glycerin to them when you squeeze them into empty pans? How long does it take for them to turn solid? Love your videos! Tfs!

Hi! I do not add glycerin, probably because I don't have any 😉 they take a few hours to dry and rewet very easily. Hope that helps!

Hi from Texas. My question is when you put the colors in the half pans how did you use them after they dried?
@iritlandgraf
@iritlandgraf 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bonnie, same as you would use dried watercolors. Spray them with a bit water or drop water with your brush to rewet and get them juicy again :)

@@iritlandgraf I bought the 60 and searched then out and the next day they like rubber. Nothing would reconstitute them.

Are you sure you got the gouache and not the acrylic? Gouache are not permanent, that's one of their known features. If you did get the gouache and they don't work, contact the company and tell them :)

You can also buy airtight containers meant for gouache that will keep them moist.
