I grew in the 70s with one of these. It came with a plastic lid that covered the butter tray. With the lid on the butter melted fine. The lid was the same size as a cool-whip tub lid. One thing I didn't like was how the popped corn touching the bowl would get wet with the condensation. Still, we loved this popcorn every Friday night.

I found my first one in 1993 at a yard sale for $3. Peanut oil has high smoke point. Turn on , oil first, let it get hot, then popcorn(like you don't drop fries in cold oil), when the corn get hot toss 1/8 stick butter on top of hot oil/corn. When popped sprinkle yellow popcorn salt on top. Salt is good for you. I'm millions of years old, all my friends are dead from listening to low salt doctors.

I had a Stir Crazy popper and got about 6 years of faithful service from it. I always used Orville Redenbacher Yellow popping corn which this machine popped very thoroughly with nearly no un-popped left overs. I used very little oil (perhaps a teaspoon of canola) and always melted the butter in a small saucepan on the stove. This West Bend unit makes the best popcorn. I also have a hot air popcorn popper and it will never leave the storage shelf in the pantry again. It made very dry corn with the texture and consistency of Styrofoam packing worms.

I love the Stir Crazy! I've always had them. I recall my Kindergarten or 1st Grade teacher bringing one to class to show us how popcorn pops. I will say, though, I treat it like a pan, I turn it on to let it heat up, then put the oil in, plus two kernels. Replace the lid, when the kernels pop then add the rest of the popcorn. And I don't add butter through the air vents -- I nuke the butter. Someone mentioned using coconut oil, but I found that it left a film on the lid I could never get off.

Try white hulled once and see what you think of that! By the way, you can turn it on and add the oil while you measure the corn and then add it with no problems. It will shorten the time. Also, shake the unit to even the spread of kernels! Enjoy!

I loved this video! Classy! I had this popper before but it went missing when I moved a couple of years ago. I had been making popcorn on the stovetop in a pop and while it worked relatively fine I missed my popper. I had the Wabash Valley Farms popper as well and I loved it, but that too went missing in the move. Now I'm checking out various poppers to see what I am going to purchase in a week. yes it is very reliable. I use the heck out of it. I am a amish gourmet popcorn lover as well. 10 bucks for a 2 lb bag on ebay....try it sometime. nearly 100% pop success. way better than ol' orville. and I agree less oil than recommended just a tbsp or two is fine and the butter melter never works right just like you say! I dont use butter anyways.

thank you Director and Jill 4 today for the informative video . We ran over to goodwill to find a cool container for our Flavacol and a .5 tsp measuring spoon to keep in that container. My wife found a stir crazy two that appears to be brand new for 4.99 and it appears to be brand new. 2/3rd w/ a shy 2 tblespoons of oil. We tried using coconut oil and WOW - also the Flavicol i ordered thru amazon and i believe i have finalized my popcorn journey. flavicol = movie theater secret ingredient and i have to say between the oil and the flavicol we will reduce the ammount of butter by half or more . it made the best popcorn we ever made at home - exactly like movie theater . we also tried some black jewel popcorn which is different but very tasty , that pops smaller and denser but its more flavorfull and fills you up too .

Quick information, short on time. People are using the Stir Crazy popper to roast coffee beans. They get the top part of an infrared cooker like the Nuwave you use to see of TV. Then they put it on top of the Stir Crazy. Have a fan near. Then they hook up both units to the power and roast the beans. P.S. I've been told it takes 12 minutes to roast the coffee. They say you got to hear a double cracking noise. P.S.S. I have not roasted coffee.

I am returning the one I bought and used for the first time yesterday. a third of the kernels (twice) ended up unpopped in the bottom of the kettle! I ordered my Stir Crazy from Walmart this morning. Just over $25 with tax. I read reviews about the Deluxe model that has most people unhappy with it. Yeah, the on/off button would be nice, but I don't think it would be "that" nice. Pulling the cord doesn"t take but a second. I read some reviews that said the bottom "heating" part can burn you.

Hi ! You 2 are always a hoot 'n' a half to watch. So glad you've found a popcorn popper you like & a brand you like, too. I know how it goes. We have had various popcorn poppers in 49 1/ 2 yrs of marriage, as you can imagine. I liked our air popper by Sunbeam except I always had to cover it w/ a kitchen towel to direct most of the popped corn into the bowl...& even then, quite a bit managed to escape & land on counter or floor. Then I ordered a pretty aqua Salbree silicone microwave popcorn popper & I love it ! No mess! And I don't want to have to use oil...just my personal preference. I ordered some Amish Country rainbow popcorn & boy, it pops up beautifully in the Salbree. Just pour some in, put the floating lid on it, set for about 2 min. & you 've got a nice big bowl of popcorn. Comes in lots of colors & was only $15.90 when I bought it thru Amazon last year. So there is a second recommendation if anyone might be interested. Love popcorn ! Sounds like you two do, too. ☺
