OMG, I love this. Im of Africa Diaspora- Yoruba specifically and I love how Baba Soyinka breaks it down! Excellent points ie Esu became a symbol of resistance in different parts of Latin America.

Where is the rest of the video please? This is excellent by the way! Kudos to Prof Soyinka for clarifying aspects of African history that has been interrupted and consequently convoluted so that even Africans do not even have a clear understanding of themselves...hence finding self development and progress difficult at best!

In 1963 the dance of the forest was published... it was all about the past not being different from the present, this almost created chaos. Now after many years in true saying is the past really different from the present? With corruption everything stays the same. This guy is more or less a prophet.

Funmi Fayanju sorry, I guess to you. Those who thinks industry 4.0 is already aware of what I'm talking about. Soyinka can't live forever. The West are busy preserving the knowledge of their experts and we're doing nothing but busy killing ourselves. When they're gone, we can't have then back again.

There is Irunmole (spirit) and there is Human form of every spirit known as Orisa. Everyone on Ile ife (The earth) follows an Orisa lifestyle.. Meaning out of the 401(spirits), your Ori (destiny) is inclined with one of these Spirits. You will need a very good Ifa chief priest or priestess to help you find your Ori.. Now when you become very influencial/Powerful.. Then you follow the lead, attain the status of a real Orisa, a Yoruba God...In human form... Then you tend to worship the spirit by appeasing it... Note that these spirits or divinities are dirrectly sent from Olodumare (GOD). Meanwhile you have intermediary between the ajogun and omoeniyan which is Esu.. (There is Esu Odara, Esu Egbita, Esu Ija, Esu Ola ilu, Esu Ebo, Esu Awure)... Note that these are Orisas at some point in the history of omoeniyan.. They became very influcial because they carried out the real work as ordained by Olodumare. Esu spirit (Or you can call him Olodumare messenger) is under the jusrisdiction of Olodumare (GOD). You can also call him the first law enforcer of Olodumare.. Another example is alafin of Oyo follows the ways of Sango.. Sango is the Human form of Sango spirit.. he follows the ways of the Spirits, its Ori... Then became Sango Orisa lifestyle or followed Sango spirit way of life....(Note that this are just certain rules omo eniyan must follow to enter heaven.. Heaven is 100% sure. There is nothing like Hell fire in Yoruba spirituality. When we pass on, we go to heaven straight after we must have lived an Orisa lifestyle in ile ife.. Whenever you go against your Ori. Esu is always there to correct you... Now that is the real definition of Spirituality which the Yoruba ppl practice and it's second to none.

'Abo' literally Means worship. Abo Orisa means those who worship Orisa. There is Orisa Ori itself. Ori literally means the head, but in spiritual matters, it is taken to be a portion of the soul that determines personal destiny and success. If you are talking of guiding force, then that means Ifa. Ifa is the guiding force handed over to Irunmole Orumila/Orunmila (the spirit). Most people find it hard to discover their Ori, they always go to a Babaalawo or Iyanifa to help them consult Ifa in search of their Ori. Esu often helps Baba'alawo to interpret what the Ifa says. Everything is in Ifa. (Combination of what Babalawo, Adahunse, Onisegun use to help humankind). Ifa is the real guiding force. You follow what the Ifa says, Esu helps to enforce what Ifa says as ordained by Olodumare the only supreme being. All the Orisa(s) go to Babaalwo or Iyanifa to look into their future, in search of their Ori. It's how they know what they will become in the future. Meanwhile, well known Orisa is 400+1.(that 1 is Ooni) Orisa is the human form of the spirits. It's believed that the Ooni of Ife is the leader that has the status of Igbakeji Orisa, anytime he puts on his Ade Ori (Crown). Igbakeji Orisa literally means second in command of Orisa which equates to an Irnumole (a divinity) Divinity = Spirit = Irunmole Deity = Spirit = Orisa

@ Skiboski Abo - When you say gods or emissaries? What do you mean by gods in the first place ? Using small letter g to depict Orisa and well accepted by the Yoruba civilization is just telling you that there is one supreme capital letter G which is Olodumare, and the use of small letter g is telling you there are also Gods on Ile ife which is not in the same position as the supreme being Olodumare. The hierarchy is quite clear. The foreign religion likes to rush to use small letter g each time they are referring to our Gods. I always use capital letter G and when talking about Olodumare, I just open a bracket. e.g God (Olodumare). But the generally accepted way of using small letter g is to inform you that the Orisas on earth is not in any position even between them, you have Irumole which is the spirit. So to answer your questions correctly, Orisas are Gods on Ile Ife but not in the same position as the supreme being God (Olodumare). They all follow everything written in Ifa. Ifa is believed to be handed over to Orunmila by the supreme being to help humankind on earth. When you say emissaries, then you can talk of the Obas, Oloye and so on.

In John 6:51 Jesus glaringly said: “The bread that I will give him is my flesh, which I give so that the world may live.” But when someone actually takes the bread, it is Satan that enters into him. “So he took a piece of bread, dipped it, and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him” (John 13:26-27). Instead of Jesus, Satan drops in when a person actually receives the bread given to him by Jesus. This so happens for the reason that Jesus and Satan are the same. As Jesus and Satan are identical, Satan automatically takes over without disguise when someone partakes of the bread materialised as his own body by Jesus by the use of his formula, “this is my body.” Jesus says in Mark 4:22-23: “There is nothing hidden except for the purpose of being exposed; nothing has become carefully concealed but for the purpose of coming into the open. Whoever has ears to listen, let him listen.” The second sentence in the quote contains a challenge to man. Its hidden meaning is: Let him who is vested with intelligence make out if he can. Nothing is kept hidden. If you have intelligence, you can understand what appears to be hidden. Jesus says demurely: “I will open my mouth with parables. I will publish things hidden since the founding of the world” (Matthew 13:35). Jesus customarily speaks in subtleties and parables. Thereby, he keeps things concealed. The more we know, the more we realise that there is much more left to know! Luke 12:49-51: “It is fire that I (Jesus) have come to spread over the earth, and what better wish can I (Jesus) have than that it should be kindled? … …, and how DISTRESSED I (Jesus) am for its accomplishment! Do you think that I (Jesus) have come to bring PEACE on the earth? No, believe me, I (Jesus) have come to bring dissension” (religious non-conformity). Only Devil can say these things!

@@treeoflife666 You read the Bible but you lack understanding. What Jesus meant by that is when people follow Christ, they will be persecuted. He was persecuted and so are his followers till this day. In strict Islamic religion, anyone accepting Christ or following his teachings is killed. Matt 10:35 I have come to set a man against his father. That occurs when the family is against the son's faith and in many cases they will disown him or her as applicable
