Protect your lantern's finish: Wrap a couple of layers of one inch electrician's tape around the very center of the bail where there is a small divot. When you set the lantern down the bail falls and always strikes the fuel tank in the same spot, eventually chipping the paint and allowing it to rust. The tape will prevent the metal bail from chipping your paint.

I love these lanterns bc theyre so easy to use. My buddy and I took one hunting and neither of us had ever used one before and we just read what was printed on the side and had it going in about a minute.

I worked on bush aircraft back in the 70s and 80s. We used a chamois stuffed into a funnel to effectively remove water from aircraft gasoline while refueling from 45 gallon drums.

Thanks for posting. Might want to mention to remember to fold the handle Down when the lamp is lit and stationary , as the handle can get very Hot.

It was my job to take care of the lamps and lanterns. We didn't use the carbide lights by then. Such a happy memory. We never had anything this fancy. Up to one mantle only.

In boyscouts we used to use and maintain those! Our scoutmaster was a former marine and fairly old school. We had Korean war era rucksacks for our messkits. I was a quartermaster for a couple years for my patrol. We would have competitions to see who could disassemble and reassemble our rucksacks the fastest.

I would recommend a hurricane lantern. Because you don't need to save mantles. You can use cotton strips of cloth.

I noticed that you trimmed the drawstrings on the mantels before you lit it. If you don't they can brush against the mantle and break it.
@alanmanchester6242
@alanmanchester6242 Жыл бұрын
The new mantles do not have drawstrings.. they are wire clips instead. Slip them on give them a twist. Whenever you find them by 10 or so. I think I have 25 or 30 stored for use. I always carry two spare sets inside the lantern case. The cases can be hard to find nowadays.

I have always had a couple and some Coleman fuel. I have a couple of butane hiking ones that use the same. I live in the south so cold and altitude aren’t an issue. Around the house though I prefer the rechargeable LED’s. Easier and faster to just grab. It’s more expensive because you still need a fuel one for no power.
