oboe actually pushes back against your air, notice he's actually having to breathe out before he breathes back in, which is awkward but a good oboist can actually go for quite a while longer than other woodwinds because their air isn't being used up as quickly

Yup...All in the lip-breathe pressure, and control. Too tight in the lips, absolutely nothing. Too loose, and all the air goes everywhere but in the reed. I'm so happy they did this so I can vent about oboe. Like my good lord it's such a hard instrument. We don't get to adjust our instruments to sound in tune. It all depends on the reed and mouth position. It also depends on the oboe because some of them are terrible. Let alone, a lot of oboes I've seen in my school are missing the left f key and low B-flat key. Its hard to find a decent oboe for a good price. Now, let's move on to know fingerings. They're probably the worst along with the bassoon. Like you have to switch to the left e-flat before you play d-flat and gosh it's just awful. Like there are *three* different ways to play f natural, *three.* Moving on back to the reed. It loves to close up on you and then all of a sudden, you go from sounding in tune to flat as hell. It's so freaking annoying. Then eventually it closes up even more and you can't play anymore. (Eddy struggled with that.) Plus I swear if you turn around for one second your reed will be cracked. No one will be near it and it'll just *crack* so you have to get a new reed. Oml I hate getting a new reed with a burning passion. You have to break it in and that can take anywhere from a day to a month. Lastly, you literally sometimes won't be able to *breathe* when you play. Like once you get into arpeggios you just *die.* Welp, there was your three minute lesson on oboe and if you actually read that congratulations. I'm sorry about the long rant though. 😂😂

Demi Muse - Probably! One of my friends play the B Flat Clarinet and s/he has sooo many struggles with it. The main one is when you've been playing for a while and you press down on the register key in the back you can feel the condensation and s/he hates it. xD (Is it called a register key? I forgot.)
@carringtonpilon1310
@carringtonpilon1310 4 жыл бұрын
Sailor Cottoned-Lavender Lol. Yes. It’s called a register key because, unlike most instruments, it doesn’t change the octave of the pitch. It changes the register of the pitch, which is a 12(an octave and a 3rd). So fingering a low C (C4), becomes a high mid G (G5) when you press the key. That said, there tends to be a build up of spit around there. It’s not uncommon so see a player flip the clarinet around and blow into the thumb hole to get some of that out. xD

That moment when you google him and realize he's the Principal Oboist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaang poor Eddy didn't stand a chance XD. If you guys are able to, please do Professional vs. Beginner Percussionist! I'd love to see this with multiple percussion instruments if possible. Percussion isn't as easy as it looks :)

I played the oboe for seven years (6th-12th) and oh boy does this video put into perspective how difficult it is to play. I think I've taken for granted how hard the oboe is, since I grew used to playing the instrument pretty quickly. But yeah, beginning oboe players are bound to sound like dying birds, and that's a fact. I did enjoy the instrument more once my playing blossomed from ugly duckling to beautiful swan tho.
