The Baofeng radio is actually more that a walkie. It is actually a ham radio with 16 channels but no display. These radios are designed to require programming before use. As opposed to walkie talkies that you can buy that are a matched set designed to be used only on the pre-programmed frequency.

The Baofeng BF888s only support UHF. It does not support VHF. If you need VHF from a handheld you will need to purchase a different radio such as a UV-5R or similar type radio.

You need to program the channels that you want to use to communicate.

they work right out of the box for me i can communicate between both within 2 city blocks

I do not understand what you are asking.

I have not seen that response at all with regards to the radios turning off. I am guessing that you charged the batteries when you received them. Depending on the carrier they do not allow units to be shipped with batteries being in a fully charged state.

@@AI5HV Thank you for your reply. Yes we charged them up completely. I even ordered another set from another vendor and that set is doing the same thing. Sometimes they will work for about a minute or so but then they just turn off after pressing the PTT.

@@AI5HV I want to thank you for taking the time to not only make a very useful video but also responding to comments. After a lot of wasted time I have learned that it was a bad batch of batteries that made the radios not function properly. Thank you.

@@cophop2898 I glad to hear that you were able to get some replacement batteries and everything is working fine now.

According to my research, the Baofeng 888s does not support high or low power. It only has one setting for power output.

@@AI5HV i saw in your video that the settings on power are set to high so i guess that it will have and low settings power. Thank you!

For this particular radio the settings in Chirp have no effect.

Bring up Device Manager on the computer. Look under Ports (Com & LPT). You are looking for USB Serial Port (COM#). Make sure that is the port that you are using in the Chirp software. If for some reason you do not see this entry under Device Manager, try plugging the cable into a different USB port. I hope these suggestions help.
