There is a lot more to braking a car than simply pressing the brake pedal. An expert driver will be able to read the road ahead and then use good braking technique to smoothly slow or stop the car. However, an inexperienced driver might find themselves often braking their car sharply or stopping with a sudden jolt. This poor braking technique will be uncomfortable for their passengers, increase their brake wear, and could even result in a loss of car control. This video will show how to brake progressively - as this is the safest and smoothest technique for road driving.
This video covers;
* What is progressive braking
* How to brake progressively
* Braking to a stop smoothly
* Braking from high speed

We’d love to make a video about hilly driving, but where we live it’s very flat! The recommended technique is to use one gear lower than normal for your current speed, as this will give more power uphill, and more control downhill. 👍🏼

@AdvanceDrivingSchool

+mahabubul hoque bhuiyan No, there is no need to lift off the brake pedal before changing gear. Sometimes we keep braking whilst changing gear (if driving downhill) but at other times we won't need to - so just do whatever seems best for the situation.

@AdvanceDrivingSchool 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. When stopping, the speed to put the clutch down will vary depending on the gear currently selected. We should push the pedal down when the engine revs are low, so look at the rev-counter and wait until about 1000-1500rpm 👍🏼

Thing is say if you’re braking for a roundabout and there is a bend just before it, you would do all your braking before you steer into the bend but then you would have to brake again to stop for traffic emerging from the right, so really you have double braked to stop. My old man who was a class 1 Advanced driver said double braking is amateur and poor.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 5 жыл бұрын
In that situation we would probably brake continuously around the bend and up to the junction, but adjust our braking force as needed. As long as the car is safely in full control then that’s fine.

Hello, is it a good idea to downshift while braking? Usually, when I need to slow down before entering a city, I downshift and let the motor slow down while lightly braking, is it a good way to slow down or will it damage the clutch? Thanks in advance for response.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 7 жыл бұрын
+stepanex As long as the braking is gentle there shouldn't be a problem. However it should be avoided when braking hard, as the car is unbalanced by the weight transfer towards the front wheels - which could then lose traction when changing gear.
@stepanex
@stepanex 7 жыл бұрын
I see, so I should avoid doing that when I would want to slow down fast into a turn as I could get into a skid. Thanks!
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 7 жыл бұрын
+stepanex Yes, exactly. Racing drivers get around this problem by using a technique called 'heel & toe' to rev-match whilst braking, but we don't feel comfortable recommending this to less experienced drivers on the road. Watch our video about 'Rev-Matching' for more information 👍🏼

Feather comes from the practice of feathering the propellers on an aircraft with that option, where the blades of the propeller can be turned in such a way that their surface is not causing drag when that engine no longer is functioning, the edge of the prop. is presented as to the airflow and so the result is a smoother flow of air and hence less resistence.

The video needs to be edited to be accurate.At 0:28, it shows g-Force meter at 0.4G yet foot is completely off the brake pedal. This inaccuracy shows at many instances, for example, foot off brake at 0.1 and 0.0 G. Also, the captions doesn't match the readings explained. Would've been great vid otherwise
